Foreign or Domestic?

So is my Mazda Protege5 made in Japan by a Ford owned company foreign or domestic?

 

Made in USA by Ford or GM - definitely domestic (OK, there could be some issues with respect to imported parts, etc)

 

Made outside USA by company not owned by Ford or GM - definitely import

 

All else - ???

And this is for JR, as a student of the industry. What in the heck was it about the original Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon that made them impossible to kill? You never see a Vega, Pinto or Chevette (and haven't for years), but I bet I see an Omni/Horizon at least once a week, driving on the freeway no less. I swear to God, I saw 2 different Chevettes in the span of 3 days last week. First ones I've seen in probably close to a decade.

They're just simple, ass-ugly cars. I really don't know what to add.

 

Interestingly, I went for years without seeing Chevettes until the $3 gas late last year. Suddenly, there were several on the roads in my rural town, and they were all well-kept. Some folks apparently kept them put back in anticipation of such an event.

These are troop-carrying vehicles, but there has been some speculation that one of the aftermarket players might start refitting these for consumer use.

Thanks. I won't have it until Thursday.

 

I put a bid of $4500 a won it, then I'm gonna have to put about $2000 to fix it. That won't be for another month or so, but I'll post pictures of the finished product then.
