Looks like they're down to a small section of the old Busch Stadium, and that small section will be taken down the evening of Wednesday 12/7.

Thank goodness the last of the cookie cutter multipurpose stadiums will soon be gone.

(KSDK) - St. Louisans are standing outside in the cold Wednesday to get one last look at Busch Stadium.

There's not much left to see though. Contractors say this final section will fall in a matter of hours. Only a few of the original 96 arches in the canopy remain.

For one month, crews have been working, bringing Busch down bit by bit. Now there's a lot of open space where the stadium once stood.

Spectator Rick Schroeder is surprised, "I didn't ever think it would come down this fast, especially after the first wrecking ball hit it and it seemed like nothing happened."

After a slow start, progress picked up quickly. With the clock ticking, fans have been lining the sidewalks, taking pictures, and making memories while they can.

Crews are a full two weeks ahead of schedule. They have knocked down two to three arches every day. Now there is only one small section standing.

Construction on the new Busch Stadium is also ahead of schedule. Crews say the stadium will be ready for opening day.
