  1. I think Marquis will put up better numbers this year than last. As far as how much better he will be this year, that remains to be seen. I'll take a guess though..4.40 ERA for the season.
  2. To be honest, I'm ready to see Benson as the starter. I would have been nice to keep Jones as a backup but we all very well know that it isn't possible. Long story short, Jones had to be moved, and to trade up are late 2nd rounder to an early one could pay dividends for us. Jones played good hear, and i have a lot of respect for him but it's time for him and us to move forward and go our separate ways. On the Briggs front, I do not feel bad for the guy. I can't stand Drew as an agent either. He says we are showing him a lack of respect?!? He's going to be paid over 7mil dollars next year! If I don't get a first rounder for him via trade he's would be a bear. Let me cry all he wants.
  3. it looks like it's on mlb.tv. :? For free?
  4. For those of you that will watch, please post velocity numbers of our pitchers. Too bad this game isn't the one on TV.
  5. Pie, Veal, Pawelek, Gallagher and Patterson on the list. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/features/column.aspx?sport=MLB&columnid=2&articleid=27859
  6. Time for Mateo to come out..and he is thankfully.
  7. i cannot wait to watch the Cubs on TV. It's been so long. Who is scheduled to pitch for us today?
  8. Is Phillip Hughes going to begin and start the season for the Yanks this year?
  9. Seconded That's the only reason why I wasn't a fan of the Floyd signing. I felt that Murton was good enough to be our every day LFer.
  10. Any word on who will be pitching in relief after Zambrano? Will there be a Gallagher or Shark sighting? Today it looks like Howry, Cotts, Rapada, Guzman and Ohman. Saturday, it looks like Miller (starting), Dempster, O'Malley, Samardzija, Gallagher, Marmol and Anderson. Nice. Thanks
  11. That was truly great. About the only time I liked Dusty. We've improved our team by getting rid of that fool.
  12. It was obvious from the get-go that this wasn't an interim promotion.
  13. I have to say I wasn't so hot about the Piniella signing at first but the more I lsten to him and him saying all the right things, the more I like him for the job. I would love to see him lose his cool and snap at the umps though, I love that kind of drama ha ha. I m really starting to be more positive about this year the more I hear Lou and the the team being healthy. It's such a treat for me not seeing Dusty here. I couldn't stand so many things about him.
  14. 20 eh?........ Hey, Lieber had 20 wins for us with a 3.80 era back in 2001. Anything is possible :)
  15. He's done alright with landing A-Ram and D-Lee for a pile of junk. Sure, he's had his share of bad moves as well, but he has secured four players who are likely all-stars this year (D-Lee, A-Ram, Soriano and Barrett. Yet, as has been pointed out repeatedly, with all the talent, he's still constructed a team that is sub .500 under his watch, despite a top 5 payroll. I'm not saying he's incapable of identifying a talented baseball player, I'm saying he's been horrible at assembling a good baseball team. Look, aside dumb overpaid mediocre players. There is ONE thing that defines our struggles the last few years. RELYING ON WOOD AND PRIOR. Just think about it. JH really hasn't put together a BAD team at all. IF Wood and Prior were who they could have been. This would have been a VERY good team for the last 4 years. But they've been riddled with injuries. It was CONTINUING to rely on wood and prior that was his downfall. How many years did Hendry rely on them before he made the move and improved the starting pitching?
  16. I was thinking the same thing.
  17. Good to see that resolved. I think it's fair and not ridiculous as 14-15mil would be.
  18. Z IMO still has to prove that he's one of the top 5 pitchers in the game before I pay him like one. We all know what happens when he lets his emotions get the better of him. Going by ERA he is not in the top 5.
  19. I'd rather have Z, Oswalt, or Carpenter over Zito. Santana, Carpenter, Oswalt, Webb, Halladay, Sabathia, and Arroyo all had better ERA's than Z last year, how much are they making?
  20. OK, I think that's doable, but 14-15mil IMO isn't.
  21. My guess is that the Cubs planned on settling for about 12.5, so they didn't want to offer that and then have to work on a new mid-point that was higher than that. They offered 11, they thought Z would offer about 14, and when he offered 15.5 the mid-point of that was simply unacceptable to them. Yeah I could see that but offering 12 or 12.5 in the arby would pretty much have won it hands down for the Cubs and IMO Z is going to get 16 or more anyway after this so why not just give him what he's worth right from the beginning? If I remember correctly, don't both sides put in blind bids so how could the Cubs know if 12.5 would even be a mid-point? But his point is they didn't want to go to the hearing at all. They wanted to settle at a midpoint, but weren't expecting the midpoint to be so high. I see, I'm surprised they didn't think it would be that high. True. Given the market the Cubs helped create, it should have been pretty clear he'd wanted Zito-type money. This market was created when the Yankees offered a lot of money for Pavano a couple years ago and has gotten worse since then
  22. Aren't the Cubs also being greedy with their best player? I personally don't think so. The Cubs have been pretty generous with their arbitration raised every year and I don't think 11mil is chump change. Regardless of what FA was, Z isn't a free agent. If he wants his 18 mil let him walk then, but one way or another he's going to have to wait until he is a FA to get his 18mil.
