It adds into a whole spectrum of issues with Gordon. He's a 43% career shooter from the field who doesn't drive to the hoop often enough to get to the line and get the other team in foul trouble (in Gordon's defense, this isn't limited to him on this team, but when he has many things going against him and he is looking for a huge payday, its going to be scrutinized). His one skill (scoring and shooting) is probably the easiest to find in the league and Gordon is looking for franchise player money. He is not a franchise player by any stretch of the imagination and his inability to get to the line on a more consistent basis is another hindrance for him.

lol at this post. Yes, let's criticize Gordon when he didn't even play tonight. I shudder to think how anemic this offense would be without Gordon this year. I actually read some people on RealGM that were saying PPG were overrated and I know wolf on here said that there's more to playing basketball than just scoring points. Yes that's true, but this is the NBA where really the only thing that truly matters is scoring points. If you get rid of Gordon, who was going to pick up the slack for him? Mr. 35% Kirk Hinrich? Or how about Larry Hughes? Don't forget about Chucker Nocioni. When Gordon was out with the finger/hand injury for a couple of weeks last season, the team couldn't even score over 80 points. Seriously look up the point totals from the games he missed last season. I remember a ton of games where the Bulls struggled to score 70. That's where people should have realized how valuable he really is to this team. He'll never give you the best defense and yes he'll do some dumb things when he has the ball in his hands (which should be limited this year now with Rose). But his offensive totals are superb and he's going to be the major factor as to how far this team will go this year. I will say it until I'm blue in the face. You cannot win with Ben Gordon as your primary scorer/player. This team has flaws on offense, no doubt about it, but I am glad he turned down that lucrative extension because his one dimensional play would cripple this team financially.

That does not describe Ben Gordon at all, but whatever. 47th in 07-08 in FTM/G, 55th in 05-06 and for whatever reason, ESPN is having a difficult time seeing the 06-07 season (yahoo has him at 27th, after searching!). That is a big knock on Gordon's game is that he doesn't attack the rim at all to get to the line.

Exactly. Anyone saying this team needs to be blown up is just being ridiculous. They're right back in it as is and arguably significantly better with just 1 or 2 tweeks. Soriano? older, albatross contract, starting to become injury prone Center Field? What is the long term answer there? Fukudome? What can we expect from him? Theriot? definitely not the answer at Short DeRosa/Fontenot: that works for me actually Lee? Getting older and the power is shrinking rapidly. Overpaid for the offensive production at first base. These are realities not solely based on the three games we have seen, but looking forward, these are legitimate issues that need to be addressed.

This team needs an overhaul in the offseason. Say what you want about "they were the best team all year" and that, but this team is getting older and has a lot of pieces that just are not good enough at their positions to warrant the money/playing time they receive. Geo and Aramis should be the only two locks to come back next year on the everyday lineup.
