  1. Isn't Rex due another ACL tear?
  2. This is embarassingly bad football.
  3. Nice helmet to helmet shot right there....
  4. I wouldn't think Manny would waive his NTC to play in Baltimore.
  5. Domestic. If I would have been able to afford a foreign car, I would have purchased one.
  6. I posted this yesterday, but giving it more thought, kind of seems to make sense to me: Mark Prior, Matt Murton, and Corey Patterson to the Red Sox for Manny Ramirez (Cubs assume entire salary), Jonathan Papelbon, and Jon Lester. Red Sox would do it because they get arguably the best young pitcher in baseball and also rid themselves of the Manny Ramirez headache (and salary). Cubs would do it because they get one of the game's best hitters and two great young ML ready pitchers who are eons away from Free Agency.
  7. fixed. whatever. the bulls aren't going anywhere until they get rid of skiles. I think they wont go anywhere until they get rid of all the players who don't disserve to be on an NBA roster. Also, I would agree that it would help is Skiles wouldn't give guys like Songalia and Pargo 18 and 15 mpg respectively. Perhaps a competant big man, or a guard over 6'2'' would help. They have lots of money to spend next year, but it's pretty clear they aren't going anywhere with this roster, this year. i could just see paxson making a big signing and then skiles benching that player into demanding a trade. skiles is a star-killer much like some stars are coach-killers. we DO need a big guard and a better option than chandler at center. oh well, we're stuck with that one for a while. Other than Jason Kidd, who is a star that Skiles "killed?" And there are no stars on this team as of now. Luol will be one by year's end. I know you have a major manlove for Ben Gordon, but at least admit what he realistically is: a great offensive weapon and a terrible defensive liability. Face it, he's a tradeable asset that could land us a big guard that can keep us in games in the East.
  8. How many people are at the ICub fanfest in relation to the actual Cub Convention? I think that would have something to do with your autograph adventures.
  9. Manny's a head case. A head case with a huge bat, to be sure. The Chicago media isn't Boston's, but it probalby wouldn't be too far behind. Move Lee as part of the deal for Tex? How often do that many All-Star/borderline MVP players get traded? If you don't, then everyone knows you're trying to move him, and we wind up with yet another trade where we can't get value. Teixeira isn't even very good defensively (range-wise) at 1B. Lee would be a better OF than he would. LF is a pretty important position on the field - sticking first basemen there makes your pitching staff worse in a hurry. Move Lee in a seperate deal. And LF is hardly an important spot for defense. I'd take Tex's .950 OPS and smile and say, "yes sir, that's some awesome hittin" And you don't move your GG first basemen to a spot he hasn't played. If we keep Lee, keep him at first, Tex has already played some OF as is.
  10. Prior in a package for Tex or Manny would be ideal. Those two would have to offer some more (Papelbon, Lester, Danks, Volquez) to sweeten the pot, but I'd also try to move Lee if we did get Tex. If not, stick Tex in left field, he is a LEGITIMATE franchise player.
  11. Hairston's only averaging 15 a game. He's still a legitimate NBA prospect and I wouldn't be shocked to see him averaging 18-20 by season's end. He's an incredible talent. He hasn't impressed me that much. Of course, I'm VERY biased. The kid is shooting 55 percent from the floor as a 2 guard. That is very impressive by any standards. Averaged over 50 percent last year as well. I'm shocked he isn't shooting more for that team. He will though, and he's good enough to get them into the tourney in a very weak Pac 10.
  12. If this organization keeps the stupid GM and the stupid manager over the intelligent and awesome ace pitcher, I will be nearly done with this team. Just incomprehensible incompetence by the upper management.
  13. That was even better than your socialism rants, well done Sulley. :wtg:
  14. I wouldn't be shocked to see Rivers dealt to Arizona for a first and third rounder.
  15. Hairston's only averaging 15 a game. He's still a legitimate NBA prospect and I wouldn't be shocked to see him averaging 18-20 by season's end. He's an incredible talent.
  16. Malik Hairston is a legitimate NBA lottery prospect whether he wants to come out after his sophomore or junior season and the Illini held him to a mere 12 points in Portland. I cannot fathom why Rich is still starting over Jamar Smith, btw. I wasn't impressed with Jamar early, but he's come on real strong ever since I doubted him.
  17. We'll give up Mark Prior and get back Jonathan Papelbon, Jon Lester, and Manny Ramirez.
  18. How does this improve the ballclub? Give up your second ace, and the future OF of the team for a guy who's admittedly great, but very expensive? Lateral moves are not gonna alter the direction this franchise is in.
  19. Could he really be worse defensively than Dunn in the outfield? And he's also younger, cheaper, further away from Free Agency (I believe), and a better hitter overall.
  20. Mark Teixeira. Let him play LF or something. That stick is amazing.
  21. Burnitz had a good glove, that didn't help anything last year. The Cubs got far better than expected defense last year at SS, that didn't help anything. Jones is crap. I don't know what useful in 75% of the games means, but he's no more useful in RF than Neifi is at SS or 2B, or Macias was as a utility guy. Just because you can fill the position doesn't mean you are good at the position. I would be fine with Jones if he was strictly used in a plattoon where he's over an .800 OPS since 2002, but I realize he won't be. And that is very unfortunate.
  22. I'll be pissed if we give big money to a mediocre pitcher like Jeff Weaver as I've seen desires for on this board. But that's the Cubs' MO: Overspending for mediocrity, so it would not shock me.
  23. How could a reasonable manager not try and platoon Jacque Jones and his .617 OPS vs lefties? Oh wait......
  24. I'm struggling to see how the Astros are better than us without Roger.
  25. If we were so concerned about defense at second base, we should have put together a better package than that less than stellar one from the Twins for Luis Castillo.
