  1. You forgot...we didn't sign him for one year like we should have...he's already signed for 3....Hendry was ahead of you.
  2. I never in a million years dreamed he would start off the season this hot (*crosses fingers*) I was going to say the same thing....At some point someone has to give Hendry a little credit for his pitching pick ups this off season...not yet...but at some point.
  3. I hope you're young (like college age or younger)... you'll harden with time. If you're older than me, then you're screwed. Yeah...I'm almost 32...and I hate to admit...but if the Cubs win, I'm in a good mood, and if they loose (especially if they give away a game late, or just fail to produce offensively at all) I'm in a pissy mood...its a sickness.
  4. As someone who is bipolar, this comment offends me. No it doesn't. Yes it does. :D Good stuff
  5. Did Barrett really just swing at the first pitch there after 4 walks and a HBP? really?
  6. Good...get those bases unclogged.
  7. I think I read 67. Yup-ML record 67, NL record 64. Both of those were done in the 1930's. He's gonna do it by mid June.
  8. What's the record for doubles in a season?
  9. Hat wasn't exactly where I'd envisioned us pulling them out of...but still...it would be huge.
  10. I liked the good old days better when we would have had a W in the books already...that being said...Go Cubs...lets play 1.3 today!
  11. Wow that's pathetic. Absolutely agree that lack of plate discipline is a continuing problem with this team. In Lou's defense, it's only May 1 - work habits are slow to change. The Cubs would strategically be much better off if they weren't so damn afraid to fall behind 0-1 in the count. Pitch identification must improve too. I hope Lou will take the younger guys under his wing and work on this. An entire game w/o a leadoff runner...we need to avoid that.
  12. I guess he couldn't afford it after that whopping $500 fine LaRussa laid on him for showing up late, hungover, and unable to pitch last Thursday after his first accident. Keep in mind that the cops did not think he was drunk when he got into his accident on Thursday morning. Also, there are no reports he was at any strip club. if he was at that neighborhood at 5:30 AM, then the strip club(s) was the safest and most legal place(s) he could have been. Hancock says he usually goes out to drive late at night to get himself tired enough to rest. I know that sounds as implausible to you as it does to me, but that's what he said to the cops. Why drive in that specific area to "get himself tired?" I bet he lived nowhere close to the land of Strip Joints. The cops were probably Cardinal fans and gave him a pass. I live here, and I feel safe in saying that no one, and I mean no one, just "goes for a drive" in that part of town. I'm not saying anything else...just that I wouldn't buy a "i'm out for a drive" story at 5:30 in the morning there...in fact, if I were a cop I'd from then on assume the guy was full of it.
  13. What was wrong with his 2006? Kinda what I was thinking...he saved 30 games for a team that won only 70....he's no savior...but he'd be ok in the pen and just as importantly we'd clear up some of the outfield trainwreck.
  14. From ESPN: Risk vs. reward Apr 28 - There are rumblings that the Nationals might decide to deal closer Chad Cordero during this season, the Chicago Tribune reports. Cordero, who led the majors in saves in 2005, has been the subject of trade rumors before, but the team was reluctant to part with him and didn't pull the trigger. If Cordero is moved this time, Washington likely would insist on receiving starting pitchers in return, with at least one ready for the major leagues. So...what about Marshall/Mateo, Jones and Cash? He'd solidify our bullpen a bit.
  15. Oh my god. Cards fans, we're sorry for your loss and pray for Hancock's family.
  16. I just wish he'd keep Riot in there so we could have a consistent line up...if Izturis is playing he's surely hitting 8th...which I'd guess moves Derosa around.....I just would like to see for a 2 week stretch our absolute best line up out there every night and see what happens.
  17. If we win one game 8-1, then lose the next 3 by 2-1, 3-2, and 5-3, we won't do fine. I'd rather be outscored on the year than have a losing record in close games. Same here, but I think the point is that the trend is spread out over 22 games now, so it's not out of the question to believe that the trend in close games is going to have to even out at least a little. And yea, they're 1-10 in games decided by 1 or 2 runs, but that also means they're 9-3 in games decided by 3 or more, and I think the latter says just as much about the team as the former. (EDIT - especially when considering Z's start to the season and the fact that Miller got so many chances.) Also, the only other team in baseball with a losing record while outscoring its opponents is the Yankees, and I have a hard time believing that they won't at least compete for a playoff spot. Exactly...I'd imagine (Fred might have these numbers) that there were very few, if any, teams last year that outscored their opponents on the year and still finished below .500
  18. We are the ONLY team in the NL Central that has not been outscored by its opponents? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say if that continues for the year we'll do just fine in this division.
  19. Then they go into the poem, which is remarkably lame and quite childish It likely also had something to do with the Front Page of yesterday's Post which led, top line of the paper: TEN REASONS WHY THE CUBS WILL NEVER WIN THE WORLD SERIES... Even though Tony's likely just looking out for himself I like the stance he's taking...and this is just #875 on the list of reasons why I don't love living here.
  20. This is the same Cardinals team that has weaknesses in both pitching and offense, right? After losing 2 of 3 to them last weekend, we need to take 2 of 3 from them this weekend. They've only won 3 games at home this year...please god don't let us let them double that number this weekend.
  21. Does anyone remember what it feels like to win 2 in a row? How bout a series?
  22. Kind of a "spin off" of this...since there are a lot of people who think that "order" doesn't matter...and since Soriano seems dead set on the "leadoff" spot...how bout we do something a little "less traditional" with our #3 hole. Leave Soriano in the 1 hole...he gets to lead off still...power...speed...even if its a Low OBP...then start off with our more "traditional" leadoff candidates...theriot, followed by Murton, our better 2 hole guy...and construct the line up from there on Soriano Theriot Murton Lee Ramirez Barrett Derosa Pie It lets Soriano lead off yet still gives us the best chance of having guys on in front of our other boppers. We want lee, aram to get as many AB as possible. They are locked in the 3-4 spots. I know that's the theory, but how many fewer at bats, over the course of a game/year does the 5 guy get than the 4 guy? Theoretically, in this situation they'd get more at bats with guys on base, which solves our biggest problem...just saying "your best hitters only bat 3-4" seems to be like saying "you need a fast guy to lead off"... I believe I heard somewhere that it is about 20-25 bats per spot over the course of a season. So in this Theory, Ramirez would get 20-25 fewer at bats over the course of a year...but those at bats he did get (thoretically) would be more likely to have men on base...so if he got 570 at bats, with more men on base...as opposed to 594 (last years #) with fewer men on base...we could actually come out ahead... (Lee got 594 ABs 2 years ago, so you'd figure his at bats would actually stay pretty close to the same)
