  1. Looking at our current opponent...any interest in Randy Winn, Benjie Molina or Steve Kline...Ryan Franklin from STL would also be a decent pick up.
  2. Exactly. The only way that is going to happen is if we can somehow get another team to actually take Marquis from us. If he could go out and throw one or two good starts in the next 2 weeks and then we could package him in a deal (eating some of his salary) that would net us a decent bat I think Hendry would be a genius.
  3. Is there a consensus list of "available" players anywhere? I'm sure there isn't...but who'd be on it besides Griffey Dunn Texeria Lofton Dye Morris?
  4. Yeah...Marshall and Hill are still pretty young to trot out into game 3 of a playoff series and you just can't trust Marquis with that right now......that being said...give me one more really solid bat and I'll go with that...I'm not as big a Dunn fan as many on this board, but I think Griffey in RF would be a perfect fit...not sure who else really fills that need for us.
  5. I'd like to see a team "loss" stat...in those games where the Starting pitcher goes 7 innings or more and gives up 2 runs or fewer and still gets the "loss" I think that loss should be attributed to the "team"...similarly, if the pitcher goes 6 innings or less and gives up 6 runs or more and the team wins, the "team" gets the win.
  6. I'm man enough to say I'll cry no matter when it happens...
  7. Just curious...with all this talk of sale, and of how the economics of taking on salary has an effect on this sale, I question whether we are missing something.,..How much does the value of the Cubs go UP if they Win it all or go deep in the playoffs? Say we add 30 mill in payroll for the rest of the year...Doesn't a playoff run increase the value of the franchise by at least 50+?
  8. I know the numbers, and they prove nothing. In one season he did better from the 3 or 5 than he did in the leadoff. It's meaningless. I thought numbers were the only thing that proved anything around here... As for being meaningless....so is stepping on the chalk line (or not stepping on it) when you walk on the field...but its "important" to some players, I believe MLB players perform better in situations which they are comfortable...if the one hole is where Soriano is comfortable (or if having Pie makes him more so) I'm ok with it... I see this discussion quickly devolving into the "chemistry" argument and other unquantifiable issues so it really isn't worth pursuing...I just orignally thought it worthy of note that Soriano really seemed to like having Pie around.
  9. I don't believe that. I think it's more of coincidence over anything else. Same here. As much of a coincidence as the he performs better at leadoff theory. Yeah...but hasn't that coincidence played out to be true over several hundred at bats over the last 3 years? No. Batting #1 706(AB) .289 .354 .574 .928 Batting #3 557(AB) .264 .315 .458 .773 Batting #5 573(AB) .272 .317 .522 .839 These are the only 3 spots where he's got any real sample size in that time...He's better in every catagory from the one hole...I'm not saying there is a good explanation for it...but those are the numbers.

  11. This may be a stupid reason...but I really don't like the move that much because of its potential effect on Soriano...for some reason Fonzie seems to love Pie and his numbers with Pie up are better than with him down...if the cost of getting him to perform up to his contract is keeping Pie in the bigs (and keeping Jones out of the line up), its a price I'm happy to pay. Maybe this is nothing...but I've heard it mentioned before and it comes to mind now.
  12. Not that my opinion matters to them...but I think its such BS that Reinsdorf (or any other owner) has any say at all in who Zell/the Trib sells the Cubs to...its downright unAmerican.
  13. Toronto: "You take him!" Baltimore: "Heck no. We've been taking Cubs cast-offs for years. It's your turn Canada!" Toronto: "He wouldn't be able to handle the exchange rate. He's yours!" Baltimore: GAAAAHHH!! Hendry, you beat us again!" Interesting.....Izturis would go back to Toronto where he began his career. Please be true. I always like it when vetran "stars" go back to the teams they started with....
  14. He was great right up till he became a partisan shill for the Right...after that he's lost a lot of his appeal
  15. No...but'd sure be nice to get a friendly neighborhood wink from our favorite beat reporter....
  16. Hill is out of options. Assuming he's the one leaving to make room, he'll be going to a different organization. Hill, Isturis, Eyre, Jones and Murton for Griffey? :D I WISH....but i heard the report Levine is giving that if izturis is traded then Ronny will be recalled from Triple A Is this the same Hendry that was there when Baker was there? I love what Lou and JH have been doing lately. Lou has really been a revelation. This appears to be the kind of team Lou was hoping he'd get when he went to Tampa. One with a good mix of veterans and rooks. This would be downright the best case scenario...Bring in HOF, LH hitting righfielder who is great defensively, continue to develop stud CF prospect, replace no hitting C and SS with young guys who have been hitting very well at the AAA level...seriously...is this the Cubs we're talking about?

  18. Soriano, Pie, Griffey.... That's a mighty fine defensive outfield.
  19. GO CINCY!!! (gotta keep those potential Wild Card teams in Check...) I'll be watching and hoping that Griffey doesn't get injured.
  20. That's a rather ignorant statement. He is immensly popular in both Seattle and overseas. He's the main reason (in terms of revenue creation) they could afford to ink Sexson and Beltre, and took a run at Schmidt last Winter. His value to that franchise is not based in baseball stats alone. Comparing him to A-Rod - whose "q" rating is well below Ichiro's at this point - is an apples to oranges comparison. Ichiro is a very rare commodity and thus his value cannot be analyzed in typical terms. Now if we want to talk about really bad contracts...the conversation should start with these guys....(although Beltre has been a little better this year)
  21. The one time in my life I’m ready, willing and able to root for Pujols to come up with a big hit and Tony lets Orlando Hudson hit? Soriano hits a HR to get us w/in one…Lee works a walk to put the winning run on base and the situation is set up PERFECT for Tony to let Pujols be the hero and he sends O. Hudson to bat? Seriously? That was so freakin stupid its like he was trying to throw the game. The only good thing is that now Pujols is pissed at Tony….maybe it will breed some disharmony ion the 2nd half.
