    Trachsel's veteran experience already having an effect on the team. He's like the opposite of Greg Maddux.

    If the Cubs do not come back and win today, here's what their records against the three worst teams in the division look like. PIT: 5-7 CIN: 5-7 HOU: 6-6 Total: 16-20 Milwaukee's records against those same three teams: PIT: 9-4 CIN: 4-7 HOU: 11-4 Total: 24-15 St. Louis' records against: PIT: 9-6 CIN: 9-3 HOU: 7-5 Total: 25-14 That's the season right there.

    It was pretty obvious that Marshall was wearing down. I wish we would have had a better replacement, but those 10 days were probably very good for him. Agreed. Today is big for him. With Trachsel sucking, if Marshall can pitch well I think their roles will be flipped. Their roles shouldn't have been switched in the first place. Unless Marshall is dealing with some arm issues, there was no reason to trade for Trachsel. It makes it that much worse that Trachsel took Marshall's spot in the rotation. I have trouble believing that anyone else from Iowa would be that much worse than Trachsel, and it wouldn't have cost us any prospects.

    What exactly happened? I got home and the score was 6-2. He utterly misplayed a liner hit straight to him in center; he broke one way and the ball went the other. The ball got past him, all the way to the wall, 3-run triple for Freddy Sanchez. If he makes the play cleanly (which would not at all have been impossible), it's a 4-3 game right now. he did botch it, but trachsel shouldn't be giving up hard-hit balls like that on an 0-2 count. But then again we all (except for Jim) know Trachsel sucks. Well, what did you expect with Trachsel's K/9 numbers? He's going to throw hittable pitches even when he's ahead in the count. And Freddy Sanchez has a way of making 0-2 pitches hittable as well.

    So other teams hit into DP's as well? Who knew?

    It doesn't help that Jacque is slumping with the bat again. Might as well see if Pie can get hot with the bat. That way we're at least guaranteed to get good defense. That moves Jones to right and then we lose Cliff Floyd's power bat. I'm not sure this team can survive that loss. Indeed.

    Soto should be playing more than Kendall is. He's become too much of a liability defensively. Why should Soto play? He is only better at every part of baseball. So true. :lol: That's good stuff right there. It is pretty much like when we played Lenny Harris over Mark Bellhorn everyday in '03. Egads. I had forgotten about the Lenny Harris Experiment.

    I could have told you that. The only way that they make the playoffs is if they randomly get hot like they did in June. But even then, it would only be a mirage as this team just isn't that good. No team in the central is good though and any team no matter how good or bad they are can get hot over 20 games. The division is still up for grabs. That team looks to be the Brewers If they do that's going to give them confidence to really be a dangerous team for years to come. They can flat out rake. Yup and considering that state the Cubs franchise will be in this offseason, this might be the first year since 2002 where I have no hope of competing before the season starts. If they get rid of Hendry I have a better feeling going in than I have since '04. Unfortunately I don't think there's any hope of Hendry being gone before '08, at least not until the ownership situation is settled.

    I'll repeat what I said on Thursday: This team is done. They are not going to the playoffs. The sooner you guys come to that realization, the happier you'll be.

    The Cubs want to make sure they don't lose a month of vacation this year by backing into the playoffs, so they're just removing all doubt in the playoff picture and playing like absolute dogcrap.

    Come on, dude. I understand the urge to stay positive, but we've been here so many times before. Why get sucked in by hope only to have your heart ripped out yet again? Sure, everyone in this division is mediocre, they will still be tied for first, tomorrow's another day. Yadda, yadda, yadda. I've heard all the platitudes. No matter what advantage the Cubs might have, be it athletic, situation, or what have you, they will find a way to screw it up. I've seen it too many times. My father saw it too many times. My grandfather, who lived on this earth 82 years without witnessing a Cubs World Championship, saw it too many times. History is a real bitch sometimes.
