  1. Or maybe we'll get the chance to hire a real professional baseball manager.
  2. Riggleman also used computer reports on the opposing lineups extensively. I remember seeing him pour through green-bar printouts back when he was the manager.
  3. If they traded Barrett I would go ape. He's the best offensive catcher they've had in nearly 15 years.
  4. I might listen to Kaplan on WGN this evening on the Internet, just for fun to hear the fans meltdown.
  5. I will continue to watch just so I can be a witness to this absolute train wreck of a season.
  6. Man do these guys suck. Pride is apparently not a big concern with most of the Cub players.
  7. Stop the presses. Patterson actually got walked???
  8. No way dude. The Slipnutz are way better. http://video.msn.com/i/3/con_031005_slipnutz.jpg
  9. Don't resign Nomar. Even if the Cubs get him for a low price, he's proven that he can't take the physical toll of a major league season any longer. Why waste the money? Furcal is one of biggest keys for next season. If you don't sign him, you can pretty much write off 2006 as well, since he's the best leadoff guy out there.
  10. I don't really have a problem with Neifi coming back. He's a capable backup should the need arise. Nomar? That's an entirely different story. The guy is a physical wreck. His offense hasn't been nearly what we had hoped, and his defense is terrible. I'd much rather see the Cubs keep Perez, dump Garciaparra, and put so much damn money on the table in front of Furcal that he can't say no. If we want a championship it's time to stop putting our faith in fragile retreads like Garciaparra and sign quality, durable players.
  11. I don't know why you're so enamored with a place that's been home to so many horrors over the years. I'd trade Wrigley for a championship. In a second.
  12. I haven't heard of this Patterson chap before. Perhaps one of you could fill me in.
  13. If only we could be that lucky. I would personally contribute (and I'm sure a lot of us would) to buying out the last year of Baker's contract if Torre were available.
  14. Yeah, but I'm a Bears fan. In the words of Lee Corso, "Uh-oh."
  15. One of the most telling stats of the Cubs' season thusfar: Cubs' record at home: 30-30. That's all you need to know about their season. There's no reason they shouldn't be 5-10 games over .500 at home at this point in the season. It's even more inexcusable when you realize they sell out nearly every single home date. If memory serves, that's one of the five worst home records in the league. If you can't bring your A game when you're at home, you have no business even playing the game. Go sell insurance or something.
  16. I frankly don't care all that much to hear Patterson defended over one thing he did right. The fact is the guy just isn't mentally focused on the game of baseball enough to be successful at the major league level. He got doubled off the other night on a fly ball, makes other stupid baserunning mistakes, has a genetic disorder where he swings at every first pitch, strikes out a rate that would make Jose Hernandez blush, and is the least clutch hitter in the organization. At this point I have little patience for someone who doesn't execute and doesn't care that he isn't getting the job done. It's obvious he hasn't listened to anyone that tried working with him. He's had the better part of two seasons to prove that the first half of 2003 wasn't a fluke. Unfortunately he hasn't. He's a bum. Time to cut bait with this one, boys. Find a team willing to take on this project in a trade, or just release his lazy arse. Then it'll be on Hendry to sign Damon in the offseason. It's time we stopped coddling losers in this organization, and CP is as big a loser as we've had in a long time.
  17. You wish it was September 1st? I wish it was October 1st, or whenever this crappy season is going to end.
  18. I think the uniforms themselves are just fine. I also like the fact they got rid of the names on the home unis. Just get rid of the red outline on the numbers and they'll be perfect. Some other suggestions: Alternate uniforms only on the road, and replace the walking Cub logo on the alternate with the standard C-ubs circle logo. Get rid of those damn red billed hats on the road. I have no idea why they went with those.
  19. Glad to see they won, but why does it always have to be such an adventure? Whew...
  20. I don't believe in doing anything half-assed. If you're going to be good, be damn good, but if you're going to bad, be spectacularly bad; the bad that's the Titanic, Hindenburg, Bon Jovi, Jimmy Carter Presidency kind of bad. I expect nothing less than the Cubs getting swept in humiliating fashion by the Cards. Maybe the sight of Cardinal fans waving brooms in Wrigley Sunday will be enough for Hendry to realize it's time to cut bait with Baker.
  21. I was at acceptance after the D-Backs took 3 of 4. Anger permeates the entire process however.
  22. I'd rather see the kids from AA and AAA who still give a crap playing now instead of pathetic retreads like Poorez, Hollandsworthless, Blank-o, Assias, etc.
