    The Mets aren't a stellar ball club? You comfortable with a rotation of Pedro, Glavine, Trachsel, Duke and a rookie not Liriano or a Tiger? Maybe if it were 1996. Their pitching staff has the 2nd best ERA in the NL. Yeah....... I'd be pretty comfortable with that. Do I think that they're as good as the top AL teams? Probably not, but they could probably hold their own in a 7-game series. Seriously though....... to say that they're not "stellar" is quite a stretch. The Mets pitching staff is very good...close to excellent. They are not stellar. Of course, if you compare them to the Cubs staff, then they are stellar. Ken

    I hear a lot of talk here about Dusty being offered an extension this year. If by chance the Cubs do a turn-a-around and get to above 500 this year, there is a good probability that managment will offer him a two year contract (this, in itself, speaks volumes about how incompetent MacPhail and Hendry are). However, is there anyone here that really thinks that Dusty would stay under any circumstance?? I really don't think he's enjoyed his time in Chicago and even if offered a lucrative contract, he will flatly turn it down and go elsewhere. After the Cubs meltdown in the NLCS, Dusty has been in the hotseat and has not done very well with the media. Personally, I'm not worried about Dusty being here longer than this year. Don't think it's gonna happen. Your thoughts? Ken

    Apparently, him and Rothschild looked over some old tapes and "Z" found he wasn't using his legs as much --mostly arm. I think the last two starts are since he made those form changes. I think this is a real good omen. Ken

    You're right...that was definitely uncalled for. You got to admire Steinbrenner's desire to win, but comments like that don't need to be made after one loss. Though, I suppose since George has never made mistakes in his entire life, it must be hard to live with others who are so imperfect.

    How do you explain the 80's, and early 90's? I don't see the point in using such absolutes. It's not remotely true. I'd gladly go 10-12 years of drought for a world championship. The problem with the Cubs is that they've gone almost 10 decades. I'd love to be like the Yankees because when they come out of a drought, they win a half dozen championships afterwards. George Steinbrenner is a winner. Yes, he's had losing seasons and droughts. That's part of being human. But the mark of his baseball life is winning. If you doubt that, just take a look at the Yankees win/loss ratio with him as owner. I have no idea what it is, but I can guarentee it's much better than the Cubs in the last 35 years. Ken

    I can't argue a whole lot with what you've said. Apparently, MacPhail thinks Hendry's doing a great job (i.e. contract extension). I think we're stuck with this managment mentality for quite a while. Ken

    I agree...but it's the first place to start....one of many changes that need to be made in order for this team to contend.

    I actually agree with you. I've been a Cubs fan all my life, but we need some serious managment changes. Sometimes you have to get to the lowest low before someone realizes that maybe all the excuses are nothing more than a smokescreen for the real problem. Dusty hasn't done terrible this year, but I think it's time for some new enthusiastic blood in the dugout. Ken

    I admire your loyalty....however, I cannot stand to watch this team right now. 3 runs scored in the last four games??? pathetic. We better figure something out before we start playing better teams. Right now Maddux (maybe Marshall) is the only reason to even turn the Cubs on. This is a very average team. Ken

    I agree, but $20 million for a one year contract is a bit much. Trib would never do it.

    Maybe my brain is just having a lapse here, but when did White Sox ever get WGN TV preference on Sunday afternoon? Is this just a fluke or does this have something to do with the White Sox being the world champs and the perks that come with it? Ken
