  1. From Cubs.com (the most accurate source of information on the internet): Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee was scratched from Thursday's lineup because of a sore right knee, but was expected to be available this weekend against St. Louis. "I should be OK [Friday]," Lee said after Thursday's game,
  2. I don't think this is a stupid thread at all. Everyone posting in this thread is a diehard Cubs fan. Yes, I want them in the playoffs, but there's a bigger part of me that wants them to get even better in the years to come. I'm not sure them repeating another 2004 is the way to do that, but maybe it is. Thus, this thread. Personally, I would much rather have a Cubs team that is decisively better than all the rest of the teams. I think the 1969 team came very close. I would much rather have everyone laud the Cubs as having a great team than having an average team that just got lucky in the playoffs. But I will tell you this. If the Cubs do make the playoffs, they are going to have to play June/July baseball throughout because these are not going to be crappy baseball teams we'll be playing. The Cubs are certainly capable, but out of the 6 months of regular season baseball, only 1/3 of the season has been enjoyable and playoff worthy. The fact that we have hit 20 homers already this month may be an indication that we're starting to get our power back at the right time. We'll see. Ken
  3. While I understand and in some ways agree with what you're saying, but I think there are much more pressing issues on this team that need to be dealt with. We have a good, cheap, in house option for center field then so be it, lets spend our money on SS (AROD) Man, I'd love to have A-Rod, but do you seriously think the Cubs would be willing to spend that kind of money, particularly with new ownership pending?
  4. STOP SWINGING AT THE FIRST PITCH!! GEEZ
  5. Griffey would be an interesting choice.
  6. I was watching Atl vs. NYM on ESPN and they were talking about the centerfield free agency market for next year saying there would be a bunch of good ones next year. Assuming the sale of the Cubs doesn't affect their willingness to spend in the off season, should Pie be our automatic CF or do we go shopping? I say we pencil him in as our everyday CF and look for a power RF. Not sure who will be available next year, but I just wish the Cubs would stick with him instead of yanking him around. What are ye thoughts?
  7. There's something highly embarrassing hitting triple digits.....also that Eamus Catuli sign would need one more digit. I'm not saying that it's not embarrassing but I'm not ashamed to be a fan. Yeah, the lows suck pretty bad but the highs are definitely worth it. Please explain to me these highs you talk about? Anytime they make the playoffs. 84, 89, 98, 03 all were fun experiences. 2003 may have ended painfully but that was one fun ride. I guess one could debate whether it was worth it or not. I'd prefer never to go through a Bartman-like experience again.
  8. The Cubs fan in me says, "Yes, I want them in the playoffs even as an average team." The baseball fan in me says, "No, the playoffs are for the 8 best teams." (The Cubs won't be in the top 8 if they make the playoffs." I suppose as a Cardinal fan, last year was a terrific end to a pretty average season. It would be great if the Cubs could do the same, but then we'd have to live with the legacy of winning a world series with an average team that just got hot and lucky at the right time. Damn-it, I want a great team, from beginning to end. I want a team that will kick butt throughout the regular season and dominate in the playoffs. I want a team that will have 110 wins and that everyone clearly defines as the best of the best. Oh well, I guess I'll have to live with mediocrity.

  10. At this point, I would gladly trade schedules with the Brewers. I can't imagine the Cubs beating any of those three teams more than once in a series. I'll be thoroughly shocked if the Cubs are more than about 1 game over .500 for the remaining stretch. I too. I fear a repeat of the close of 2004, the Cubs will have chance after chance to seize the NL Central (WC in 2004) but, we fail to do so. I believe we are going to witness several 1 run extra inning loses, games in which the the Cubs grossly out hit and, save for a pitch or two, out pitch the opposition. We'll see things like the Cubs leaving 20+ plus men on base, Lee and Ramirez GIDP's with the bases loaded, failing to score a run with a runner on third and no outs, etc. The real kicker is that these failings won't occur because the opposition made the perfect pitch, no, they'll occur because Lee and Ramirez just missed hanging sliders or high BP fastballs. The writing is on the wall. After last night's loss, I took all my Cubs stuff down here at work. I am tired of hearing people laugh about the Cubs. I will quietly cheer if they get into the playoffs....though, I have to admit, I'm pretty much preparing for the inevitable melt down. Ken So you're a closet Cubs fan? They haven't won a World Series in almost 100 years. Why is one more too much of an embarassment for you? Never been a closet fan. I'm just sick of having to explain to everyone why I'm a Cub fan. And to make things worse, I have to come in on Monday after the Bears opening loss after bragging they would 12 or maybe 13 games this year. Sunday was a double whammy -- Cubs get knocked out of first and the Bear's get their butts kicked. Maybe I should be a little more humble when it comes to my Chicago teams, especially when it comes to the Cubs.

Once they see the Cubs hat they get a real good laugh. As for the diehards, there is one Yankee fan, and two Red Sox fans. Really not much I can retort back.

  13. that's a very good point. I agree. I really do have a lot of faith in Lou and hopefully he'll help Hendry see the light. If the Soriano signing is an indication, you will be sorely disappointed.
  14. Dude, you got it totally wrong...... 7-1
  15. I'm afraid that won't happen until next year.
  16. so true C ubs U sually B low in S eptember
  17. Don't hate Edmonds. How bout hating Lily? Or the Cubs? I don't see how anyone can hate Lilly with the kind of season he's had. sarcasm, man. Don't hate Edmonds for hitting a home run....hate Lily for giving up one. Get it?

  19. Incredible. Pessimistic in the TOP OF THE FIRST when we score FIRST. Wow! You don't think this team has earned this pessimism??? I sure do.
  20. Gameday Audio is obviously pretty far behind TV. So you guys post this, and I think something good happened! Should have known though. I think that was sarcasm.
  21. I think the Dusty Baker "veteran-only" attitude has started to infect Lou. "We are in a playoff race and we need veteran experience to get us over the hump." Alright, Dude!!
  22. I wonder if one more is gonna hurt anybody... Apparently, it hurts the "lord." I swear, half of his posts complain about the validity of a topic.
  23. I agree and I think the Cubs chances of making the playoffs are extremely slim... but at the same time I still find myself wasting 3 hours a day watching them find ways to lose games. At least last year they were bad enough that I didn't feel inclined to watch every day, but this year I can't pull myself away from it. The joys of being a Cubs fan... All because no matter what you say deep down you still have faith that they will pull it out. That sums up being a Cubs fan. My pain will only be compounded today when the Bears lose in San Diego.
