  1. I don't like this umps strike zone tonight.
  2. If the Cubs win this game one lucky person gets a free month of premium on me. I don't expect to lose my $5. I'll take you up on that. :)
  3. It's worse than that. They actually showed a clip of game 6 before the game. That is totally unprofessional. What a classless organization.
  4. If Lee, Ramirez, and Sori can stay this hot throughout October, I feel real, real good about our chances.
  5. The key is "lack of focus." When you're in a competitive situation, you're more focused. You guys are killing me. Every at-bat is a competitive situation. Yes, you're right. But when you're in a playoff situation, it means much much more. And if you're not focused, you'll get beat more times than not in that situation. If Soriano is that affected by being in a losing situation, that is very good news for us as we head into the playoffs.

  7. Yeah, I'd also like to add that if you HATE your job, you will also not produce as much. I can only imagine what it means to be on a sucky team with sucky managment.
  8. Great point! When the Cubs are winning I am watching and very excited. When they suck, which is most of the time, I detach myself so I won't let it ruin my day (or year....or decade).
  9. well said. I like to really know how many of the posters here go 100% at work 24/7. I'd guess many posters are at work while they are browsing NSB. When I'm happy, I produce the best. That's human nature. And yes, I am work while typing this. ;)
  10. One might argue that he shouldn't have said that to begin with, but I have no problem with the statement itself--because it's the truth. Certainly, every player should play his best at all times. But the reality is that it is much harder to get up for a meaningless game (both physically and psychologically) than the excitement of being in a pennant race. Think about your own life. How much easier is it to jump out of bed in the morning and be happy and really productive at work when things are going great in your life? When things are going bad, you still get up, and you still go to work, but it's that much harder to maintain the same type of attitude and production. Again, probably not the thing you want to hear from Sori because some things are better left unsaid. But he spoke the truth.
  11. I liked it!
  12. It's amazing to me how the Cubs can give up the lead the very next inning. How do they do it? :(
  13. Nice play!!!
  14. That's the way to unclog those bases! 4-1 Cubs.
  15. I have to admit, I'm a tad bit worried this weekend with Pittsburgh trotting out three leftys against us. I was curious, do all teams have trouble with lefty's because of the rarity of good left-handed pitching, or is this a Cubs thing? I mean, we should hit lefties well because of our predominant right-handed line-up. Someone suggested that it is because we don't take a lot of batting practice against lefties. Ideas?
  16. That's why I love baseball. The long arduous schedule produces only 8 playoff teams. Anyone can make it. I like the Cubs chances in the NL playoffs. If we do make it to the World Series, it will be much tougher against any of the 4 AL teams.
  17. 03 was awful. Prior was abused more that year than Z has ever been, surprisingly. But the Cubs were 4 outs away from the world series! Yeah, in hindsight, 2003 may have been the worst year in Cubs history. 5 outs, but who's counting.
