  1. 4/40 mil is probably what it would take. I bet he gets more $ then Pavano. I'll go 4/44. Me too. 4/55 is my geuss. Almost 14mil? No way anybody signs him for that. I think the 4th year will be a lot of cash and possible buyout. This is a very lean year for free agents and I think that Burnett is about to take advantage of that. He's a better pitcher than Pavano too. Yeah, in retospect I should have said 4/48. Just something to keep in mind. Imagine having that 3mil Rusch just got and put that towards Burnett. 10 mil or 13 mill a year it wouldn't matter. If this is indeed true why in the heck did we sign Rusch? It makes no freaking sense. Becuase: A>Hendry loves redundency B>Becuase neither Wood nor Burnett will last a whole season, so he figues why not let each pitch 1/2 a season C>He plumb forgot he just signed Rusch My vote is C D>Hendry knows he may not get a guy like Giles through FA, but now would have a stockpile of cheap, valuable trading chips to make an OF trade.
  2. Please don't use "shot in the arm" and "Angel Guzman" in the same sentence. [-X I'm just a little superstitious.
  3. This is exactly the deal that I thought of when hearing about the alleged interest in Pierre. If I'm not mistaken, Castillo and Pierre are comparable $$$ wise. If Hendry's true motive is to improve the D, then Castillo surely fits the bill. I'm not saying he's a lot better than Walker offensively, especially for the salary, but I'd much rather have him than Soriano. Also, in this case Corey is given the opportunity to show something during the first half, and can be used in a deadline deal if need be. Interesting in a lot of ways. Edit: I was looking at salaries a few days ago with a move like this, and I believe it would also leave money for a Burnett/ Millwood type. I'll see what I can find when I get home tonight. (unless someone else wants to do it before then)
  4. Whoa. The line for Corey bashing usually forms right behind me, but this is a bit much. The fact that he is going at all should tell you something about his "mindset." He's a professional athlete for goodness sakes. I'm sure he doesn't enjoy being awful at the plate. Let him go work on it, show up early for spring training- again, and let the winter play out. At least there is an effort to improve.
  5. Does anyone think that the Yankees may be giving him the "Sammy Treatment" in the press; enough to push an already unhappy fan base to the point of seeing him out the door? There clearly is the "he's not a real Yankee" sentiment among some fans. Is this possibly a way of pushing him out? Not sure what the Yanks would have to gain other than salary relief, though, and they sure can afford to keep him around.
  6. Far from it, but we do see things a bit differently more often than not.
  7. I also think a lot of Yankees-haters don't appreciate how good Jeter actually is. Overrated? Sure. Great? Yes. Most overrated player of all time? God no. What he said. (God, I can't believe I'm agreeing with Rocket):P
  8. Is it possible that the light has come on for Hendry regarding OBP? If we're throwing around the #'s, surely someone, somewhere, has called them to his attention. Please God, let this be the case. He's probably talking about Defense... I guess I've never seen him use the P word before in reference to making changes. This is one instance where he didn't mention injuries as the main culprit. I'm still optimistic this early in the offseason, as they haven't yet had the opportunity to crush our hopes. Keep your fingers crossed.
  9. Dare I say that I'm encouraged by Hendry's quote in Bruce Miles' latest offering? Is it possible that the light has come on for Hendry regarding OBP? If we're throwing around the #'s, surely someone, somewhere, has called them to his attention. Please God, let this be the case.
  10. I'm I the only one who thinks this Sun Sentinal writer just didn't notice that the staff was all signed to a one year deal. It seemed to me like that guarenteed Dusty his job this year, too. I would put the odds of the Tribune bringing back Dusty's staff, and then firing Dusty at 10,000:1 I think the implication is that Girardi may be waiting for next offseason for Dusty to be let go (i.e. when his contract expires, along with all of his coaches contracts as well), not that Girardi is waiting for something to happen any sooner than that. I'd say that's about right: From today's Sun-Sentinel... One can dream, I guess.
  11. It also looks like vintage/ old time video when Ol' Fat Elvis is running the bases. He's a dead ringer for the babe on the basepaths.
  12. Trade Patterson and Walker to Minnesota for Tori Hunter, in whom the Yanks are supposedly interested, then trade Hunter, ___________, and __________ for Arod. I'll let you guys figure out the details. :P
  13. From the Star Tribune Not much new news, but is there an opportunity for Hendry to insert himself as a middle man here? If he's so set in going another direction at 2B, what kind of interest would Minny have in Walker? What could the Cubs look for from NY or Minnesota? I've said it before, but I have a strange feeling that Soriano may be the Cubs 2B next year (not that it is what I'd do necessarily). Thoughts? Edit: because I'm dumb.
  14. The last couple of years, we've gone into the season with at least 3 fairly large question marks: Who's going to get on base regularly, Who's going to lead off, and Who's gonna close out games. I, for one, am glad that Hendry can focus on just 2 areas of inadequacy at this point. It's like we're ahead of the game for once. It only took 2/3 years to get here. Maybe by 2010 this thing will be figured out. 8)
  15. How about the pres-... uh, I mean Pedro Cerrano? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v621/afrantz/17.jpg
  16. Griffey's line this year: 491 AB: .301/32/92 .369/.576/.946 He was 10th among all outfielders in OPS. I wouldn't arrange the retirement party just yet.
  17. Sig material, for sure.
  18. God love Matt Murton. That is all.
  19. So let me get this straight. Arod saves a little boy, and Nomar saves two drowning women. Where, exactly, is Jeter? He is so NOT clutch.
  20. I appreciate the perspective from "the dark side". The mods here do a great job of eliminating any trolling, and the Cards, Astros, and Tribe fans here are mostly positive contributors. Not all "other" fans are trolls, and not all Cub fans are all that interesting. Spice of life, ya know?
  21. 1. This may be the best reason given yet. 2. It's funny that we're comparing Furcal with Walker (because of various trade ideas, I know). Certainly from a value/$$$ perspective, there's not a huge difference, but I know this: Furcal is a damn site better than Neifi. 3. It seems like Walker is as good as gone, from various quotes. I'd bet (a small amount) we end up with something like Cedeno/Soriano MI, and Lofton in CF for a year. If Hoops' senario comes true, insert Wilkerson for Lofton. I'd love to have Livan, as he's the anti-Cub starter who goes deep into games and eats innings. 4. Does this still leave money for B. Giles???
  22. I think Burnitz, Nomar, Patterson, Neifi, and Walker are all gone. I seem to recall a quote from Dusty recently to the effect of "Walker was mostly an offensive second baseman". (paraphrasing, but the past tense was definitely there) Not a good sign for Walker sticking around. I think the middle infield and CF are very much dependent on one another. If Furcal is signed, I'd imagine a combo of Cedeno/ Hairston at 2B, putting the onus on Hendry to find a CF with a little power, ie. Vernon Wells, Ken Griffey, etc. The same is true if Luis Castillo is somehow brought in. If Nomar is resigned, or if (how unlikely?) M. Giles is to be had, then we might just see Lofton out there until Pie is ready. So the lineups could look something like this: Castillo/Furcal Murton Lee Ramirez B. Giles Wells/Cameron/Griffey/??? Barrett Cedeno Or... Lofton M. Giles Lee B. Giles Ramirez Garciaparra Murton Barrett Is Brian Giles really all that likely? Is there a snowball's chance in ___ of getting one of those CF, or seeing Murton and Cedeno in the same lineup outside of September? It's great that Hendry has the money to make something happen this year, but it should be real interesting to see if he can do it. I like the 2nd lineup a whole lot better, but I think it would take a miracle to put together.
  23. Mazzone is hilarious: "That ball left Andruw's bat, traveled about 450 feet, and the next contact it made was with my freakin' head."
