  1. I'm a Cubs fan. How would I know? Tickets usually don't go onsale until just a few days before games, I think. The Mets are virtually guaranteed to have home field advantage in their first series, so they'll probably start selling tickets earlier than other playoff teams. Oh, that close huh? I didn't realize that. So eBay is off the table. Craigslist, here I come! God I can't believe I didn't think of that. The MLB playoffs are going to help pay off my student loans... sweet.
  2. Be careful. Resale for above face is prohibited in Missouri, and Cardinals fans don't pay above face like fans in other cities, anyway. And you've still got to get through the Virtual Waiting Room. That's why you include a baseball card (or a blank piece of paper for that matter) with the sale. As for the VWR, I was lucky enough to get all the tickets I wanted this year. When do playoff tickets generally go on sale?
  3. Why the long face? A Cub win tonight and a Cardinal loss moves the Cubs to 13 games back. But still 9.5 back in the Wild Card Not a chance. Oh there's definitely a chance. Not a very good one, but we're not out of it yet. As I said in another thread, a four game win streak could feasibly put us just 5.5 games out of the Wild Card with a month and a half to go.
  4. I plan to finance my Cubs ticket purchases next year (if I buy any tickets next year) by buying and reselling playoff tickets this year. I figure I'll make more money if Cincinnati makes the playoffs, so I'm rooting for the Reds. That's a brilliant idea. The thought never crossed my mind. Living in St. Louis, I'm definitely buying Cards playoff tickets when they go on sale.

  6. That's a lot of hatred.
  7. The Cubs still have a chance, and really, 9.5 games isn't that much ground to make up (just ask the 69 Mets). If we win four straight we could feasibly be just 5.5 games out. This is highly unlikely, of course, but there's a chance. Now with that said, this happens all the time. The Cubs play a good stretch of games, get me all excited, then proceed to lose their next 8.
  8. Queen in the Final Four is just stupid.

Izturis was unwanted because he's been bad at the plate. Fair enough. So he goes out and has a good day at the plate, and what's being talked about? His below average day in the field. God, some people always have to bitch about something.
  10. I don't think Cubs fans are booing Pujols as much as they're trying to drown out the Cadinals fans cheering of him.
  11. Bound to? That's awful logic. Why push the matter? I was complaining throughout the season and definitely in Game 2 of the NLCS, and I know I wasn't the only one. I blame Baker for riding Prior (with an Achiles injury!?) and Wood and not at all looking long term. The Cubs were set for a run of a few years with young pitching and Dusty burned it out in 2003. And didn't even get the Cubs to the World Series in 2003. I find it hard to blame Dusty for riding Prior and Wood in 2003, considering that they were the ones that got us to the playoffs. Any manager would have done what Dusty did.
  12. He's only done that twice in his career, 2001 and 2004. And each time he had just 506 PA. He needs to average 3.3 per game to get there, and each off day will make it all the more difficult. It would be so Cubs like to have back to back batting title champs on worthless teams, seeing as how they are so enamored with batting average but completely oblivious to the more important aspects of the game which are necessary to actually win. If Dusty would hit him 3rd like he should, then it shouldn't be a problem for Barrett to qualify.
  13. When I read that I laughed. After thinking about it, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.
  14. After today's games, he's hitting .338 which would put him 2nd behind Sanchez, who is hitting .347. Barrett currently doesn't have enough at bats to qualify, but I gotta think that he will at the end of the year. And I think his past two months have been WAY overlooked. In June, his line was .392/.458/.549/1.007 and in July his line was .386/.446/.639/1.084. Those numbers are sick! He's easily been our best hitter this year and either our best or second best player overall.
  15. He just doesn't look right wearing that LA hat. 2 down in the 6th now for Greg.
  16. Not really, there are only a few teams that would be able to claim him before us. (KC, Pittsburgh, and whoever else happens to be crappier than us). That's if I understand it right, which isn't a sure thing. Pittsburgh would be the only team stopping us. If more than 1 team claims a player on waivers, the team with the worst record in the same league has dibs. Are you sure about that? I thought that it was the team with the worse record, regardless of which league they played in.
  17. That's so awesome. I don't think I'll ever forget that play.

  19. Murton 4-4 today, with 4 doubles and 5 RBI's... wow, what a day! Too bad he'll be back on the bench tomorrow.
  20. So if you want to make a trade right now the players to be traded from both teams have to clear waivers? Any trades made after July 31 may only involve players who have cleared waivers. In theory, couldn't the Cubs give the Braves players to be named later? And later being in the offseason so they wouldn't have to worry about the waiver thing?
