  1. Because he's a professional baseball player? 95% of the time they'll take the 'more money' route no matter what they've been saying about how much they love the town, want to stay, blah blah blah. Remember, Johnny Damon plays for the Yankees now.
  2. A-rod. I'm pretty sure it's all been speculation at this point (particularly, the inclusion of Hill), but it does make some sense, so it's worth considering. Wouldn't the Yankees likely be able to get a better package for ARod from another team? I'm going to go out on a limb and state that Hill and spare parts wont' do it. Hill simply is not a proven top of the rotation SP, and that is what the Yankees will likely demand, IMO. To address the topic presented in this thread, the Cubs would probably pull the trigger on a Hill centered trade for Arod if this were offerred....and then sign 2 FA SPs There aren't really that many teams that can absorb A-Rod's $23 million salary this year. I guarantee that other teams could offer more in terms of players, but their payroll just won't support it.
  3. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2628823 I don't much care about his postseason failures in New York. Right now, I would trade literally anyone on the Cubs roster to acquire Alex Rodriguez. It would be amazing if we could re-sign and keep A-Ram. The outfield is still a question mark, but an infield of DLee, ??? at 2B, A-Rod at SS and A-Ram at 3B would be amazing, no question.
  4. I don't think you've actually said anything worth reading in this thread. At this point, everyone's just doing a 'uh-huh! Nuh-uh! Uh-huh! Nuh-uh!' type of thing, and that's stupid. Almost as stupid as trying to argue that Wood had a great 2003 and when healthy is a great pitcher.
  5. All right. How did you find out the NL average? I looked around espn.com, but I didn't find anything.
  6. From August 6th to September 7th, the Cubs have scored 134 runs in 29 games, giving them a runs-scored per game average of 4.6. I don't know the ML average, but this seems pretty decent to me. Our offense was soooo bad the first 3/4 of the year that it's surprising to look at the game log and see how many high-scoring games have been wasted by poor pitching.
  7. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7718 I don't know about you, but that looks pretty encouraging. Ignore his first two ML starts, and he looks very strong.
  8. I'm not really sure what the point is of this thread.
  9. This doesn't have anything to do with the topic at hand, but I could watch your animated avatar all day, CubsBullsBears.
  10. Man, I want in on that. Bench Jacques and put Wilson in RF.
  11. I think its funny that the Cubs can win a ballgame in dramatic fashion, and all we end up with is a 3-page thread *****ing about a catch made by Neifi Perez. Just let it go.
  12. I can't remember how long it was, but Dustin Hermanson went a long while without giving up a run last year.
  13. We've got 8 or 9 players right now(with possibly another 2-3 signing up in the next day or so. However, I'd like to get as close to the 15-team maximum as possible. Almost forgot: The draft time is 8 pm Saturday, April 1st. League ID#: 252481 League Name: Mayhem Baseball Password: batman
  14. I'm not really convinced that anyone in our division has an overly strong outfield. We don't have to have a great outfield, just one that roughly maintains parity with those in our division to have a good chance.
  15. Yeah, and I have absolutely zero sympathy for them. Didn't they think to ask Soriano if he'd be willing to play in the OF? If they did, I'm assuming he said no, and they deserve the trouble they're getting. Likewise, if they didn't, then they still deserve all the trouble they're getting. I think that Soriano is being a jerk too, but you've got to admit that the Nationals created this situation themselves.
  16. I personally feel that Korea's uniforms are a crime against humanity. I've seen high school teams with better looking uniforms.
  17. That's actually a good point. The Royals are the worst team in the majors. Who else do they think they're going to throw out there?
  18. And I think, technically, that you have to be able to get around without the aid of a walker to play outfield.
  19. 44) Derrek Lee has an exact repeat of his unreal 2005, but this time it actually matters because the people around him actually, y'know, support him.
  20. Wait, I'm confused. Why shouldn't Prior not pitching like an ace since 2003 be a valid reason to consider trading him? I like him as much as the next guy, but freak injuries or not, Prior has to, at minimum, pitch a whole season at a high level before he becomes this weird Seaver/Clemens/Second Coming conglomeration this board has prematurely turned him into. Prior is not, I repeat not a superstar yet. In all honesty, he's not even an ace yet. The last two years, he's just been pretty good. If we can get one of the top 3 shortstops in the game plus a serviceable pitching replacement for him and Hill(or whichever prospect), we should pull the trigger and run away laughing.
  21. I fail to see the need for such dramatic hand-wringing. We would be trading one potential superstar for one superstar + good pitcher. It's pretty far from the end of the world, or even a bad deal. Plus, we all know that no one here will ever really be done with the Cubs. :)
  22. Prior for Tejada + Bedard is not a Maddux-esque dump. Greg Maddux got lowballed by the Cubs and chose to sign elsewhere. In this scenario, we're getting back what I(and others) perceive as equal or greater value.
  23. I think it's very, very likely that we overvalue Prior. When looked at objectively, Mark Prior is a young pitcher with great potential who has had one great season and two adequate ones. Miguel Tejada is an All-Star SS, a position where you don't traditionally get both defense, power and average. He's been a league MVP, and is only not duplicating those numbers because the other Orioles are generally fair to middling. Also, his contract is not insane. Tejada might not put up OF numbers, but he doesn't have to. He's a shortstop. Great shortstops are hard to find, so they cost more. I'd like to know what players the readers here would accept for Mark Prior. I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the suggested deals would get laughed at by any competent GMs.
  24. Are you really sure that Tejada isn't a difference maker? He may never have had a .900 OPS, but he's still one of the top 3 SS's in the entire game, and he's proven. I'd love to pencil Cedeno in for Tejada-like production, but that probably won't happen. Tell me that an infield of Lee, Walker(I hope), Tejada and Ramirez wouldn't be the most(or second most) feared infield in baseball. With production like that(even not counting what we'd get from our OF), we could definitely stand to throw Eric Bedard(who was pretty good last year) out there instead of Prior. I don't know about you guys, but I'm tired of assuming that we can do with having a barely adequate offense because our pitching will be so awesome, when it really hasn't been awesome since '03. I'm ready to try the other way: Good enough pitching, amazing offense. I never thought I'd say this, but if Hendry can get Tejada + Bedard(provided he can come to terms with Tejada on a long-term deal) for Prior, then pull the trigger.
