  1. I think Corey should be traded because he's just not that good. If the Cubs can get anything at all for him, they should do that before every other team figures out that Corey's probably won't amount to anything more than just another journeyman outfielder. It's over, guys. Corey has had a good half season(2003) and nothing else to speak of since. We've waited 2 years for him to realize the potential that everyone seems to think he has. Many people on this board don't want to trade him now because his value is so low, but has anyone considered that it's looking like this actually is his value?
  2. Yeah, I'm a little confused as to what Boston is doing. First, they trade Hanley Ramirez, their can't-miss SS prospect and then they trade away Edgar Renteria? Exactly who do they think is going to play SS for them in 2006? I think it would be hi-larious if they ended up signing Nomar because no one else is available.
  3. Poor, poor Manny Ramirez. Life is so hard for some of us.
  4. Perhaps we can start calling him He Who Must Not Be Named around here. Would that help? :)
  5. The Indians clearly weren't a better team by the end of the year. They lost 6 of their last 7, choking their way out of the playoffs, and the White Sox won the World Series. The White Sox are a better team, and hardly anything has changed to make that not true.
  6. After this year, I'd be thrilled if we were guaranteed three OF who put up .280/.340/.430ish. That just shows you how bad our OF was in 2005. We have so much power in the infield that all we would have needed was the above everyone in the OF, and we'd have been the WC.
  7. One of my favorite images from the 2003 season was a picture of Trammel with his hands up at his temples and screaming something at someone on the field. It's always looked like a man on the edge of a nervous breakdown, and it summed up the Tigers 2003 pretty well for me. If I can find the picture, I'll post a link to it later. Anyway, I have a hard time blaming Trammell for not 'improving' his club, when he was mostly handed crud and told to field it. Edit: Here's that picture. http://espn-att.starwave.com/media/mlb/2003/0506/photo/a_trammell_tpi.jpg
  8. So, after tonight's 'heroics' in the batter's box, who here still thinks that Corey(he of the .185 avg in September, and .220 overall) has any place with the Cubs anymore, at any level? Discuss.
  9. Does anyone have a link to the list of all upcoming free agents? I can't find anything relevant on Google, and I'm not seeing anything on ESPN.com. Thanks in advance.
  10. I'm surprised that WGN hasn't been dropped before this. Did WGN ever show anything besides bad 80s-early 90s movies and Cubs games? I submit that they did not. :)
  11. What was up with that, anyway? When I saw Z go in to pinch-run, I was agog, but I couldn't catch any details.
  12. I'd hoped that the Royals might turn it around a bit once Buddy Bell took over, but they truly are an awful team. I don't think anyone saw this coming after the adequate 2003 they had. 18 losses in a row is an absurd streak. I'd think that in some game during that stretch they'd just, y'know, luck into a win.
  13. Sorry for my above post, but you'd quoted someone talking about why we'd want Walker, and then your post was about Neifi, so I was confused. :)
  14. What are you even talking about? Over the last 10 games he's hit .301/.349/.465 with 18 doubles and 8 home runs. Sure, he's struck out more times than he's walked, but his OBP is at least respectible, and he hits for power. Did you just totally make up that hitting .220 crack, or what?
  15. Maybe we can make a deal with the D-Rays to get JoBo back for the stretch drive! Knowing LeMar, we'd probably have to send Jerome Williams.
  16. I don't know where to find that stat, but I'm just going to guess and say that you(we) think we do it more than other teams because we watch the Cubs a lot more and we notice that kind of stuff. Of course, I could be wrong. I hope I'm not, though.
  17. Yeah, and what's with T. Walker saving the game for the Giants against the Cubs last night? Seriously, what team does he think he's playing for?!
  18. I think that Steve Phillips writes very interesting articles, and they're pretty informative, too. I look forward to the day when every mention of him on this board doesn't lead to the following post: "I don't care about anything he has to say because the Mets were bad while he was a GM."
  19. I'll admit that when I came up with those three names for LF, I basically had espn.com list all LF, and then picked three that I thought might be somewhat possible. Outside of Dunn(who I suppose isn't likely anymore), I wasn't really sure what LF were really available that we'd want. Maybe the D-Backs will get swept by whoever they're playing now, and then they'll go into sell mode after we sweep them. :)
  20. Again, that's not Neifi's fault. I hope you're mostly kidding when you say that.
  21. The numbers I gave were his career numbers. They're pretty close to this years, except his OBP is actually lower. Listen, I'm not saying that I think he's good. But can we just give the guy a break?
  22. I understand that .269/.300/.379 isn't good, but calling him the worst offensive player in 50 years is pretty silly. Also, I find it pretty sad that we can only rip on him even after he hits a game-winning grand slam. "Yeah! Congratulations on the grand slam, Neifi! Also, you suck!" If it wasn't for Neifi's unearthly performance at SS earlier this season, we'd be more buried than we are. The fact that Neifi is playing is Dusty's fault, not Neifi's, so stop blaming him for playing. It's incredibly unreasonable.
  23. That's why nearly every announcer/sports writer I see says that the Cubs have perhaps the most brutal one-two punch in baseball right now. With Hairston and Walker finally at the top of the order, I don't think there's a pitcher in baseball that wants to face Lee, Burnitz and then A-Ram. Imagine if we had a true everyday LF to either hit after A-Ram, or after Lee and then put Burnitz sixth. 1. Jerry Hairston Jr. 2. Todd Walker 3. Derrek Lee 4. Jeromy Burnitz 5. Aramis Ramirez 6. Adam Dunn/Luis Gonzalez/Kevin Mench 7. Neifi Perez 8. Michael Barrett 9. Pitcher And that's before Nomar comes back.
  24. And sometimes he goes nuts and plants an opposing pitcher really, really hard. It's just one of those things. Happens to every pitcher at least once a year.
  25. I got a 3/10 and had to guess on nearly everything. Why do you people remember this stuff?
