  1. Hmmm, 3/24 maybe? Like many things this offseason, it would depend how the rest of the offense is shaping out. I wouldn't sign him. What would you do with him in 2007 or 2008, when Pie will likely be here? Move him to the corner? I would do it only if the Cubs have 3 power hitters at the infield postions. Ramirez 3B ARod SS and Lee 1B and Cedeno 2B Damon LF Murton RF ARod SS Lee 1B ARam 3B Barrett C Cedeno 2B Pie CF
  2. I'm really, really hoping that Murton and Cedeno are in front of him in the line. I'm then hoping that the Cubs decide that three rookies would be more than Johnnie B. could handle at one time in the starting lineup. Imagine if Hendry saw all the rookies playing fro Atlanta and decided that was who he was going to imitate for 2006? I would think that Cedeno would be the first to get bumped out of the 3 unless the Cubs have a Goodwin type around. I wonder what Hendry would do if Baker had all 3 ride the bench? Furcal SS Murton LF Lee 1B ARam 3B Sanders RF or a really good impact guy Barrett C Cedeno 2B to be replaced by veteran and they move to the 2 slot Pie CF
  3. Is it possible if the Cubs go cheap at CF and keep Pie and bat him 8th then they would spend some serious cash on Furcal, starting pitcher and a corner OF?
  4. I can't imagine Hendry trading Ramirez for prospects, especially with this manager. If the Cubs are going to pay 17 and then 20 for a player I wouldn't do it for Jones but I would for ARod and maybe Manny if the deal is right.
  5. Plus the related concern of durability, as well. I think you'll see that improve this offseason. Does he have a personal trainer? He's training with Bonds this off season. I'd love to hear that Ramirez is going to improve his conditioning which imo would help his durability. I believe Mark O'Neal has been quoted as saying that someone will be working with both Z and ARam this winter, on diet, stretching and conditioning. That's great news USS.
  6. How high would you all go for Damon?
  7. :D Now you're talking!!! I wonder how Joe Pa is going to work that for motivation?

  9. He's not high on my list. I'm afraid he's too tied to the Donny Buntball school of baseball. It's an Academy...not a school. I wonder if Hendry would let us sit in on the interviews when he asks the applicants on what their coaching theories are.
  10. Plus the related concern of durability, as well. This is why I wish the Cubs would overpay for a left handed hitting 1st/3rd baseman that can play a corner OF for the bench. Is there one out there like that? Yeah Tim, I think the durability is tied to the conditioning. I'd like to see if Toronto is trying to dump Hinske's $4m salary. He'd be a solid backup for 3rd and 1st, as well as a potent bench bat. He's a little pricey, but it's not a longterm contract, and the one thing the Cubs have in their favor this offseason is payroll room. Interesting thought....I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Toronto move him. Since there are not that many 3rd baseman available this off season, unless the non-tendered list has some, I could see a team taking a shot at Hinske. If he could only play some OF to get more AB's for the Cubs because Lee will play 158 and who knows about Ramirez.

  12. I think it'll depend on who Hendry gets this off season. If he gets all the other positons and can't find a CF Pie will be up but if he signs Lofton or whoever Pie will only be up because of an injury IMO.
  13. Florida St. vs. Virginia has a bit of luster to it. When you take into account that it will be a nationally televised night game on ESPN, that UVA was blasted last year in Tallahassee (when the sports geniuses were POSITIVE they had the better team), and when FSU is looking like the team they were during their dynasty period, I'm pretty sure this merits "marquee" status. What would the ACC be this year without the Big East teams Stuy? By the way, congrats on your season so far, that defense is very good.
  14. He would have been up in July because he was the best batter to call up. We still wouldn't have seen Greenberg in the bigs if it weren't for Pie's injury. After all how is Pie ever going to become a decent major leaguer if he never plays in the bigs?? Well, he's 20 years old. That would make him young for AA! Why rush him to the big leagues when he's not ready - it's going to be a much bigger detriment to him becoming a decent major leaguer than waiting a year to get to the big leagues. Why do I envision a desperate Cub team forcing Pie into action? I would like to see Greenberg get a shot at being the 5th OF with a possibility of starting in CF.
  15. Oswalt with more chin music. I love it when pitchers move the ball around like that.
  16. That was a nice swing by Pujols for the homerun. Stiff front leg...excellent hip torque...perfect balance. Man, I hope kids are watching him.
  17. He seemed to take one too many eh? Is low inside his weakness and that is why he didn't swing?
  18. Bud quit. Turd Ferguson is the new commissioner.
  19. Man did Pujols pull his foot on that one. Do umps even call that any more?
  20. If you're talking about a Cub/Yank deal either get Ramirez or sign Nomar.
  21. Yeah...the games are not quite long enough now! I could see limited replay in areas that Peter Gammons mentioned earlier, but I'm sure that it would be all or none. I still hear people talking about if the ball AJP swung at was in the dirt. I just don't see it and I hope it doesn't happen.
  22. I hope MLB never goes to instant delay. That would be terrible. So much of the game is objectional anyway. Could you image a replay for balls and strikes. That would absolutely ruin the game. Yeah...the games are not quite long enough now!
  23. I'd rather deal Prior then Z too. I just think that Prior, Walker, CPatt and a young pitcher are more then enough for ARod and Cano. Also, how much money is involved? Are the Yanks sending cash or are the Cubs paying the whole deal?
  24. Because just about any time there's an option, there's also a buyout. I don't really think that's a deal-breaker, though. I thought you said "a deal-Baker". It made me smile for a minute..thanks!
  25. I hope MLB never goes to instant delay.
