  1. and playing to win as a team and not for individual stats. too bad dusty doesn't think this way or they might be alot closer to .500 this year. Come on now. The Cubhouse Country Club just wouldn't be the same now would it?
  2. Bynum of course. You have to pay more attention stitch or you're out of the Jim Hendry Fan Club.
  3. I'd like to know where the Cubs would have been without Baker.
  4. I agree. I disagree with the not getting picked off thing though. What if your agent calls when you're on first with a huge endorsement deal? I'd take the call because you have to feed your family.
  5. I'm not so sure about that. I don't think Juan really wants to stay. Espically since Baker is gone. That may prompt Hendry to overbid though and that worries me.
  6. Say the Cubs did trade for Crawford, who would lead off? He isn't a high OBP guy and I doubt highly that a new manager would bat Murton leadoff. Unless the Cubs get an impact bat at SS or 2B I don't see them having a Cedeno/Theriot middle either so that might take away Theriot from the lineup .
  7. Ok Captain Kirk! :titanic: I think you should sign all the major players that helped you lose 90+ games just to prove it was a fluke season. I'd like to have Nolesco and Pinto back and trade them and others for an impact bat or starter, man I wish Hendry have some vision and imagination.
  8. The thing is for me is that I don't ever remember agreeing with anything Rogers has had to write.
  9. Doesn't jive with Rothschild coming back this year. Doesn't make much sense when talking about personal issues either, as that's a direct team issue. I think that personal issues could be a dislike between a manager and a pitching coach that was forced on him. Rothschild had to know that Baker may be gone after this year and thought he hadd a chance to be the head guy if Baker was let go around the break. You may be right Goony but something about these two guys relationship has always bothered me.
  10. Wow...I agree with Rogers. I'm going to go take a shower now, I feel so dirty.
  11. Is it possible the coaches didn't get along? Baker and Rothschild may have hated each other for all we know and their bickering may have help split this team.
  12. I hope this Girardi for manager doesn't become a hometown thing. Hopefully Hendry will pick the best candidate and not bow to the pressure of picking Girardi jsut because the "fans" and press are calling for it. I also have a strange feeling Rothschild may be back. Hendry is loyal to a faulty and Rothschild turned down the Tiger job so Hendry may reward that by keeping him on.
  13. Hell, he's not a 1st baseman either, but that didn't stop the Dodgers. I wouldn't rule it out. Hendry does love the guy... And didn't Nomar say a lot of nice things about Hendry? You'd think this "I'm a nice GM" would work in the Cubs favor a few times since many leaving players have nothing but good things to say about Mr. Hendry.
  14. The Marlins almost showed us it's possible to break .500, technically a winning team, with a 14 million dollar team. I may be wrong but I think they also may put a lot of money into their system though. And...I think Florida is the exception not the rule. Look at KC, Pitt and Tampa, they are always near the bottom in payroll and the standings every year.
  15. Not if he's pitching the way he's pitching now. Somebody wanted him for the pen a year ago (and I supported the idea), but I'm not sure if he's going to be all that effective throwing 89 and junk out of the pen. Maybe. Maybe not. IMO he's reserving his tank a little and if he's a closer he might get it up to 92 or 93 if all he has to do is pitch one inning. I look at him like a Nathan type pitcher.
  16. Could Miller be made a closer?
  17. 95 to 100 million a year should be more than enough to build a winning team. But, I think what also matters is how much money the Trib is allowing for scouting and development.
  18. I think that CPatt could have had a Jaque Jones like career with speed. What I think contributed to his struggling is that he had too many voices telling him what to do and being the nice kid that he is he tried to change each time. I can blame Baker for ruining my innocence and making me a frustrated, annoyed, pessimistic Cub fan. Granted, it's my fault for letting it happen but he and Mr. Hendry/MacPhail have driven me to the point of maddness. I used to be incredibly optimistic before then.
  19. Isn't Tampa Bay one of the worst teams to deal with? Personally, I think they'll ask for quite a bit for Crawford.
  20. I hope everything goes well for Glendon, get healthy and go back to enjoying life big guy.
  21. I agree with Rozner, I hope the Cubs sign a gamer that hits 240 and plays D with style.
  22. I think with the lack of free agent impact bats, especially 3rd baseman that can hit, Ramirez would be foolish to sign with the Cubs before testing the waters. It's just not good business unless the Cubs throw out a 15 per for 4.
  23. I like Kirk too, he knows his stuff. Seems like the only people that don't like Kirk are OSU fans who don't like that he isn't a homer. Indeed. Herbie is a first class talent. He use to get harrassed all the time by the local knuckleheads in Columbus when I lived there. I think if he wasn't an OSU alum the radio station would have fired him a long time ago. They fired his co-host in 1999 for giving "it" to one of the callers/listeners and then going off on a 5 minute tirade on what idiots/uninformed most of the listening audience was. Then shortly afterwords they hired Neanderthal Chris Speilman to do the show right before Herbie's. And its all Buckeyes all the time. Really? I knew OSU fans got upset sometimes because he isn't a blind homer, but I still would have thought he was somewhat of a hero out there. The deal about his co-host sounds pretty good though, I wish I could hear it. So many of the people who call into sports talk radio are just clueless. So many people who host sports talk radio are just clueless. I think too many times they are hired for their ability to have listeners/viewers talk about their show because of the outrageous things they say and not their knowledge of what they are talking about.
  24. I think it's more likely the other way around. MacPhail is Hendry's boss, so he therefore has the authority to fire Dusty himself if Hendry balked. It is possible that Hendry wanted Baker gone but MacPhail or the Trib said no.
  25. If Aramis leaves, then they should back the truck up and sell, sell, sell. Not becuase Aramis is that good but becuase he's all the Cubs have besides Lee and third base is a terribly hard position to fill. As I wrote in another thread. Losing Aramis would set off a cascade of bad trades. This is just one example. Yep, the boat is sinking and Hendry would be trying to fill the holes with toothpicks.
