I believe Soto is leading the league in OPS now.... 17 home runs and counting... It's not like he's bad behind the plate... Or old... Free Soto.

Ryan Braun on the other hand.... Whether Weeks ever pans out or not, the Brewers have the potential to be very good for a long time with Fielder and Braun on the corners of their infield. Hardy isn't too bad either. -
If we were to judge the strength of each NL team based on the differential between runs they've scored and runs they've allowed, the Cubs would be the best team in the NL. It indicates that we can expect our winning to continue. It also indicates that the D'Backs--and especially the Cards--should fall back. Of course this indicator doesn't take into account the current health or makeup of the teams. The Padres (Young), Phillies (Utley), and Brewers (Sheets) have all recently suffered key injuries, while the Braves just got significantly better. While this doesn't gaurantee future sucess, it is encouraging to see that the Cubs are scoring more runs than they allow...by a margin better than any other team in the NL. 1. Cubs +62 2. Padres +44 3. Phillies +42 4. Brewers +38 5. Braves +36 6. Mets +35 7. Dodgers +31 8. Rockies +12 9. Giants -8 10. Diamondbacks -27 11. Marlins -34 12. Reds -61 13. Astros -70 14. Cardinals -75 15. Good enough to play CF. So's Jacques Jones' in theory....but he certainly isn't a very good defender. ...not sure about Church.

Since we already have 3 lefties in the rotation--and could for the next several years--perhaps Veal is expendable. Veal's trade value has certainly increased again with his recent upswing. What about a package centered around Veal for Dye?

I'd like Quentin on our team. Send them Marquis. :D Seriously, I'd consider Marshall for Quentin. I think Gallagher could be called up and do reasonalbly well. Marmol could always be tried in the starting rotation again as well.

wow, we could at least wait for confirmation that no moves are going to be made before crucifying him, couldn't we? Never too early to prepare for the letdown. Yup... I've been let down by the Cubs my entire life, another disappointing day would simply be status quo... Why does everyone want a trade that badly? I too would like Griffey or Dunn (or maybe even Dye) in Cubbie blue, but only at a certain price. If it costs too much (i.e. Pie), then i'd be let down if the cubs made the trade. No trade may be better than a trade. It all depends on the offer. It is possible that a trade could make the team worse, if not for this year, than for next.

True. +2 I hope he waives the no-trade. Does he have something personal against Boston? I'd play in beantown in a second, but uh, nobody's asking :wink: I suspect he has no problem with Boston. If you can only provide a short list of teams to which you can't be traded without permission, for the most part you'd include teams on the list that you expect to be traded to. It gives you an extra negotiating tool.

Yea, I heard that, too. A lot of times reporters don't realize just how absurd and stupid what they're reporting is. I'll believe it when I see it. Even Hendry isn't that incompetent. No? I don't think he is. If anything, his past shows that he holds onto some prospects too long. He's shown a repeated unwillingness to trade prospects. The one notable exception is the Pierre trade. Most prospects that he has traded have had a pretty long look by the Cubs before they were sent somewhere (Hill, Choi, Cruz, Patterson).

Pie for Laird makes no sense...and I'm sure that Hendry knows it. I don't see him trading Pie right now. I do question the interest in Laird. I don't see him being all that different from Soto...

Agree- he's obviously shown he can hit in that park. I'm curious to hear what the crowd reaction will be when his name is announced. I doubt he'll receive any serious boos; for one he was only there for a year, two everyone knows Bowden wasn't even in the ballpark as far as what he command with his next contract, and three the Nats don't have real baseball fans who were actually paying attention during all this (or would who even give a crap). Well, considering roughly half of the crowd will be Cubs fans (I'm not kidding!), I expect the applause will be much louder than the boos.

Will be there all fours games this series! yay! Cubs have lost the last two series here in Washington. They should fare better this year. Soriano should have a big series.

Blevins is really tearing it up this year. :shock: How hard does he throw? He seems to have great location, as he's not walking anyone. Cedeno, Soto, and Blevins should all be helping the Big League club sooner rather than later. Izturis, K. Hill, and Eyre should be gone. -
Soto would be an upgrade. He just hit his 11th home run in Iowa tonight.
