  1. i will wait and watch the rest of this year and next before jumping to a conclusion like that. his roster is not well situated right now. i like what he says, but he has to get the players to buy into that philosophy, and even further than that - have the players instill that philosophy into their play, which hasn't happened. i know it is less than a month into his tenure, but that works both ways in this particular conversation. once the cubs start to see more pitches i will be happier. for the most part the pitching, on the other hand, has been stellar.
  2. cubs win 7-2. zambrano strikes out 12 and maintains as much composure as he is capable of. lee homers twice. soriano errors in left, leading to one of milwaukee's two runs.
  3. michael barrett
  4. i <3 you, ron! get better.
  5. yup. i traded for him halfway through the second week and he hasn't done a whole lot(though it was for berkman + pitching, and he isn't doing anything at all haha).
  6. this excludes hill, but i said it in the game thread: marquis (specifically, but lilly to an extent) reminds me of rex grossman early last season. rex threw several interceptable passes when he was doing well, the other team just wasn't catching them. later on, corners weren't dropping the ball. same thing with here. there have been more than a few fly balls that end up on waveland in july and august thrown, and it will catch up to them. hopefully not... Marquis cannot keep this up if his peripherals stay the same. It's going to be like batting practice come July, I just hope our offense is as good by then as I think it can be. P.S. TSB > Funeral, but other than that I liked your first set of albums better. :-) me too  he just can't throw that middle of the road fastball around the letters of guys like carlos lee and albert pujols and get away with it in wrigley.
  7. some minor league pitcher + middle infielder that was drafted in an early round, has good tools but hasn't exactly panned out?

  9. the front office needs to figure out what the hell they are doing here. this is just annoying. we are nearly a month into the season and they are still trying to shift regulars around? not a good look. however, an outfield of soriano, pie, and murton would be damn exciting. :D
  10. man alive, pujols got real bald real quick.
  11. 5 run lead and Ward needs to stay sharp too to "stay" there would suggest that a person was currently sharp.
  12. this outing by marquis reminds me of rex grossman. when rex was winning early on, you could see several passes that should have been intercepted but weren't. same thing here. marquis will get hit at some point. RONNY!!!?
  13. yeah man, this is just insane.
  14. Seriously. I was not a good baseball player by any stretch of the imagination but one thing I could do was lay down a bunt. It's not a hard concept. Stick your bat up there, keep it level, and let the ball hit it. it's not a hard concept, but execution is another thing. i'm sure it's much harder to put a 98 mph fastball four feet on the third base line, or drop a 12-6 curve for a bunt single between the first baseman and pitcher... not that that's an excuse, these guys are supposed to be professionals, but it's still not an open court lay up.
  15. does anyone else attribute at least part of this to a great shock in the system that has to be going on with this club after the drastic managerial change? imagine going from a slacker boss that lets you get away with whatever, and then you get super strict boss at your work... it would probably take a little bit of time to catch up to the system. it will happen, it's just going to take another month or so. we shouldn't be completely out of contention by then.
  16. Nonsensical. DeRosa and Floyd should be switched. They don't want to put Floyd and Jones back to back-too easy to put the teams best left-hander in when it comes time for the two of them later in the game. So go: Theriot DeRosa Lee Floyd ARam Jones Blanco Izturis I'd be fine with that, although so far this season things seem to be switched. DeRosa has been great power, horrible OBP. I wouldn't want to see the lineup they have today as a long-term lineup, but I don't think it's that bad either. if things come down to it, i want ramirez with that extra at bat over floyd.
  17. we lose, 4-1. lee hits his first homerun of the year.
  18. i hope that was sarcasm about pedro martinez. he has been one of the best pitchers of all time.
  19. ...and to hit .143 in the playoffs.... if there were a magic switch that allowed everyone to hit well in a short playoff series, it wouldn't be a short series. he's just not clutch. some players are and others aren't. derek jeter is clutch. he is also hott.
  20. We should have never done that deal with the Reds. he would have no where to play. would you rather have hamilton or murton?
