  1. I know this idea is often panned, but would making Kerry a reliever help with his problem? He seems to be able to warm up and go a few innings before the problems occur. I am interested to know how such a move would affect him physically. This is something that, if its going to be done at all, shouldn't be done until the offseason. I am genuinely curious about the feasability of such a transition. I do realize that 12 million is a lot to pay a closer.
  2. Exactly. Although I'm okay cutting Neifi yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Neifi should have been gone weeks ago! I would rather see anybody over there than Neifi. Why Cedeno hasn't seen the light of day recently is mind boggling! Cedeno should be playing everyday right now until Garciaparra gets back and then when he does Nomar will only be able to play a few days a week. Seems like the perfect scenario to give the kid a shot, but Dusty lives in his own fantasy land thinking all his old Giants players will come to the Cubs and play everyday. Neifi doesn't need to go, he just doesn't need to start. I have no problem with having a Neifi as the 25th man. I just hate having him start and having Cedeno and Macias on the bench. I wouldn't be furious if Neifi was on the team, Macias was gone and Cedeno was the starter.
  3. I by know means am implying that we trade Kerry, but guys often have no-trade clauses added to their contracts to allow them to control their own situation. They do not exist exclusively to prevent a player from leaving an organization, just to prevent him from leaving without consent.
  4. Because he threw a whopping ten pitches and didn't throw yesterday. Plus, who else are you going to bring in? Mitre, Rusch? No thanks.
  5. How in the hell is Derrek Lee supposed to win the triple crown with Walker doing that in front of him. He should be ashamed. What a hater. ;)
  6. While some synonyms might be interchangeable, it certainly depends on the context in which the words are used. Personally, I don't equate irony with sarcasm. Perhaps that is a flaw in my language skills. Just add it to the bottom of your flaw list. Now appearing at #124,532, JC's lack of language skills pertaining to the word ironic. ;)
  7. Who wants to bet Murton gets lifted for a PH.
  8. Matt Murton, meet Gene Clines & Gary Matthews.
  9. It's no guarantee he gets a hit. Its good, aggressive baseball with two outs and the pitcher's spot up. It took a perfect throw to get the out. It's aggressive, I wouldn't call it good. While it may have taken a perfect throw to get the out, on the flipside, it would have taken a bad throw to get the run. And turning over the lineup is pretty much all you can hope for from Blanco. I don't think, you can judge the play good or bad either way. They took a chance and it backfired. Goony, I see your point, but, if it took a perfect throw to get the out, two actually, then it wouldn't require a bad throw to score the run. It was just require a throw that wasn't perfect. Not perfect doesn't equal bad.

  11. The last throes of Dennis? Are you sure you know what that word means, Mr. Vice President?
  12. A-Rod did look at his citizenship card. It has two countries on it as he has dual citizenship, USA & DR.
  13. A-Rod has announced he will play for the Dominican Republic and not the United States in the World Classic. A-Rod
  14. Kerry Wood is the poster boy for the argument between stats guys and for lack of a better term, results guys. Stat guys see Wood's numbers compared to the other contemporary pitchers and he is at or near the top. Results guys look at the win totals, the blow up innings, the mechanics and the injuries and see a guy who has not lived up to the hype. I come down somewhere in the middle of this. I do think the trade Kerry thing is pretty ridiculous because as many have already stated, his contract, no trade and family situation likely mean he isn't going anywhere. As for Zambrano, I would trade him for Texeira or Cabrera in a heart beat and probably Abreu as well. The Cubs, by virtue of being a big market club can part with cheaper guys for immediate upgrades. Look no further than the Choi-Lee trade.
  15. It's already begun. Ozzie/the team is a fraud. This smacks of bitterness and jealousy. You forgot pure hatred. It can be blinding can it not? ;)
  16. It's already begun. Ozzie/the team is a fraud. This smacks of bitterness and jealousy. Yes, they had a bad serious against Oakland (the A's have had their number and are playing excellent ball right now), but they are hardly, imo, about to begin some slide. The team is not a fraud and are headed for the post-season.
  17. disagreed. i watched game 6 in a bar on campus, and there were a LOT of sox fans cheering and jumping up and down and hugging each other. i only know of one sox fan who rooted for the cubs in the '03 playoffs. Well a course, but think about it... they were watching the cubs.. I dont think people watch teams to lose just when they were getting their asses kicked they are going to pretend they did. Also judging fans at a bar isnt a great idea. I bet most of them were so drunk they just saw one person cheer and all decided to cheer with him. Agree with ltb here. My father, for example, is my best friend, but he is also a die hard Sox fan. (how nice of me to stab him in the back, some friend I am). Anyway, I know my father loves me and all, but he HATES the Cubs and was actively rooting for the Marlins even thought the series loss pretty much ruined my month. He didn't care, he was happy as hell. If my own father felt that way about it even though his only son was suffering (as a fan), I don't imagine there are too many Sox fans that are pulling/or pulled for the Cubs. Contrarily, I do admit to be a closet Sox fan. When they are good (and its rare) my dad is in so much happier and more pleasant to be around. That is enough to make me pull for them.
  18. Exactly, and the team will be improved with every one of the answer choices being selected and rectified. Replacing the manager is the easiest thing to do and also has a subsidiary impact on the players. Unless you played for the Yankees in the '80's/early '90's, players notice when the manager gets clipped and they know its also a reflection of their performance.
  19. Great read, OO. Thanks. It forced me to dictionary.com no less than 4 times.
  20. And Jose Macias and Enrique Wilson are/were?
  21. First of all, E-ramis is lame. Just like Sam-"ME" and "K"orey, and every other negative nickname that bitter Cubs fans come up with. But if you had to do this with Aramis, then Error-mis is a lot funnier and works a lot better than E-ramis. Jake might be able to confirm this, but I think it was bitter Pirate fans that came up with both E-ramis and Error-miss Ramirez. I know you weren't implying Cubs fans came up with those names, I just thought it was a worthy point of information.
  22. I thought he stalled it out for a little while in an attempt to avoid an earholing. I figured he returned to his old ways adding the sunglasses for better hallway deception since he obviously couldn't rely on talent alone to be a good hitter.
  23. ESPN News is reporting Lee left with an injured shoulder. How did it happen and is there any prognosis? I looked in the Game Thread and all around and I didn't see much about it. Maybe I missed it. If there is a thread or other discussion about it, please lock and accept my apologies.
  24. Very good idea! And since we know Hendry is capable of architecting a 4-way deal, well then, a 3-way deal should be as easy as falling off a log. "architecting"? :? The funny thing is, I can't think of an alternative. engineering, perhaps?
  25. Really! You could've fooled me. Ramirez Ramirez was an emergency, "we aren't going to make next week's payroll if we don't, trade. They wanted to deal Benson's six million away, but he went on the DL right before the trade so he couldn't be moved. Hendry was a total opportunist when it came to this deal. Littlefield shouldn't get too much flak as the order came from on high. Lets not forget that this is the same guy that got Jason Bay AND Oliver Perez for Brian Giles.
