  1. Just thought Id let everybody know, Michael Barret is hitting .345(10-29) with 6 RBI's in July.
  2. So has there been any word on if Wood pitched yesterday, or is he pitching today? Also this might be looking forward a little too much, but oh well. I was looking at the Chiefs schedule for the rest of July and they start a homestand on the 21st thru the 29th. Is it reasonable to expect Kerry to possibly pitch on that last day of their homestand, which is a Sunday, and the Cubs history would point towards him being there on a weekend, they arent dumb. After that the Chiefs dont have a home weekend game until the 18th of Aug. Am I projecting to fast, or does that seem reasonable? Since Im 5-10 mins away from O'Brien Field, Im eager to see Wood pitch there again.
  3. Agreed with most of what you said Jake, but Blevins isnt really projected as a specialist. Hes getting rightys out as well. But the point still remains, he projects as a bullpen arm. You can find people for your bullpen everywhere, and giving 1 up is not really a big deal. Giving up a possible decent/good starting pitcher I could see the bitching, but seriously this guy is a reliever, BIG DEAL! The sad thing is even if Kendall hits .240 with a .300-330 OBP for the rest of the season, its quite a bit better than what we have right now, and I really wouldnt be surprised to see a .275 .330-.350 line from Kendall. Add that line into this lineup and hes going to help.
  4. Yea I think thats Ender from here talking bout this board not being moderated. Hes just upset cause Ben Sheets is so injury prone :D
  5. Yea because there was so much talent at the Catcher postion on this team already.
  6. We won't be able to take on additional salary now that we've got JASON KENDALL! Not that we'd need to take on additional salary, because now we've got JASON KENDALL! And you know this how?
  7. Most of the players disliked Barrett. Barrett was a bad defensive catcher, couldn't hit well, and Z nearly killed him. The Cubs have been great since he left. It was a good move. Everything I've ever heard suggests that Kendall is a tool that nobody likes. He also is a bad defensive catcher, and has on OPS over 150 points lower than Barrett. Seriously, Kendall has hurt his team more than any other player in the league outside of Dioner Navarro. Kendall quite simply is an offensive and defensive liability, and there have been rumors of him being an clubhouse cancer. So how on earth can you defend the Barrett trade, and think this is a good one for us? It's ridiculous. Edit: This hasn't been brought up yet, but Kendall has a FULL NO-TRADE CLAUSE. You putting that in there just made whatever you said in that post irrelevant. Who gives a crap about a full No Trade Clasue? HIs contract is up at the end of the year.
  8. Well 1 worthless bat gone. Jesus that Barret trade was horrible!
  9. Why the hell is Koyie freaking Hill starting? Jesus let Soto play we've already been subjected to the crappyness that is Hill for way too long, lets see something different
  10. Dopirak? He's putting up mediocre/bad numbers in Daytona. Maybe he got Dope and Hoffpauir mixed up. Or maybe hes on dope? :D I think Dope's problem is that he's no longer on the dope I was talking about Abe being on dope, for suggesting Dope. I know what you were saying Ok sorry, Im a little slow, it must be all this dope talk.
  11. In 2001 he sat because he was young, he could have pitched through it. 2002-2004 he had no injuries. 2005 he got sick which limited him a few starts thats not an injury. Late in the year he got hurt with an injury that was going to take 9-12 months to recover from, he came back early and aggravated the issue (yes the lat is directly related to the shoulder). He has had one major injury in 6.5 years. Imagine next year Zambrano goes down in May, misses the rest of the season and then is just fine in 2009. Is he injury prone because he only has 39 starts over 2 seasons. If Sheets doesn't try to come back and is just hurt for a full season would he no longer have the injury prone tag? To me it seems like the reasoning for the tag is because he tried to come back too early and ended up on the DL again for a couple months, that seems silly to me. No matter how you spin it, Ben Sheets is an injury liability. He can not be counted on making 30 starts in a season plain and simple.

  13. I swear if I hear this crap 1 more time, Im going to bang my head repeatedly into a wall. THE CUBS HAVE BEEN WINNING IN SPITE OF THEIR CATCHERS, what part of that is hard to figure out. The Cubs starting pitchers were pitching just fine the entire month of April with Barret catching also, so whats your point Catcher is a defensive position, dude. And so is 1st base 2nd base SS 3rd base CF RF and LF, so what the hell is your point? That phrase is an absolute idiotic phrase, since every position is required to play defense. But in case you didnt know, there is another part of baseball called offense, and I dont care how great you are a calling a game or blocking pitches, its not going to make up for an average under .100 this itself is crap. you know exactly what the phrase means. it means that teams are often willing to sacrifice some offense for defense at that position because of the importance of defense at that position. as for it not making up for an average under .100, I agree for the most part, but chances are Barrett doesn't block all those sliders in the dirt by Wuertz, or Wuertz doesn't have the confidence in Barrett to block them and leaves them up, in which case, today's game doesn't end 7-6. I never once said I didnt know what the phrase meant. I said its a idiotic phrase. Also, the same assumptions that you are making about Barret not blocking those balls in the dirt, an assumption can also be made that Barret would have hit a HR or done something else significant offensively, so the Weurtz showdown wouldnt have been needed.

  15. Not so sure, cubsin03 was the original poster saying it was a defensive position. You may be right. The dude at the end of his second post threw me off. I've never seen anybody actually type it if they weren't joking. Sya it maybe, but never type it. Yea I dont think he was being sarcastic. I think it was more being a smartass since I said if I hear that phrase again Im going to repeatedly hit my head against a wall. By the way, do you have any aspirin, my head hurts?

  17. id killl for a .265 rite now
  18. with Cliff it should read "second by second"
  19. OMG we agree on something, wtf :D

  21. yeah, people like to imagine that every barrett passed ball cost the cubs 10 runs. Well you must not have known that everytime Barret had a passed ball the Cubs lost, and look the pitchers are kicking ass right now, and Peavy is hurting see what Michael Barret did.
  22. What about throws into CF?
  23. NBA Championship here we come! Joe Smith is basically Pj Brown. Bulls still need a big man Smith is an easy upgrade over Brown, and the rest of the bench-filling forwards on this past season's roster. 06-07 PER 13.95 Smith 10.98 Sweetney 10.46 Allen 09.75 Brown 09.44 Khryapa As I've written before, I expect Thomas to take a step forward this coming season. His PER was 14.80. Deng's PER during his rookie season was 14.20. You are assuming hes coming off the bench. Huh? You said Smith is basically Brown and 1908 showed that Smith is indeed a pretty significant upgrade over Brown. In addition to that, Thomas was better than both as a rookie and should continue to improve this year. That was what I was referring to. I really have no problem with this deal if Thomas is starting, and Smith is off the bench. That said, I expected more coming into the off season.
