  1. Agreed, but I just got home from work, and really need to go to bed but dont want to so it was a way to get some discussion going
  2. Hows that work about the 20 day rule or whatever it is about rehab stints in the minors? If the player is still hurt, or gets hurt again does it apply? Hanks been down there now for about 10 days or so I think.
  3. I'm not sure where you're getting this. He hasn't faced many lefties in his ML career, but he's got a .353 OBP and .400 SLG against them in 175 or so ABs. So he might not have much power against them, but his on base skills don't disappear against LHP. Yea I mentioned it in my other post, I had just looked at this years numbers vs lefties. While I agree his OBP still serves a purpose hitting down there, I was trying to think of a way to maximize it. The only way I have thought of to maximize his OBP, would be to move Theriot to leadoff, with Church 2nd Lee 3rd Soriano 4th Aram 5th DeRo 6th. But we all know Soriano is staying at leadoff so thats not plausible.
  4. I agree with this statement, but disagree about the need for a starting pitcher. Sure if it was realistic that Marquis could be removed from the rotation then Id be all for it, but I think we all know thats not happening with that contract. Marshall Im not worried about. There is enough tape on him from last year and this year that teams shouldnt be caught by surprise with him, and the kid just continues to go out and pitch wonderfully. If it was 4 or 5 starts he had done this, I could see the worry, but hes been doing this now for for 10+ starts, so hes got my faith. We need offense, and badly need help vs left handed starters, but I dont think we are going to get it, and it will eventually be our doom.
  5. Church can play CF. He's a much better option in CF than J. Jones at this point. OPS+ last 3 years: Church: 120, 128, 101 Jones: 99, 107, 67 Plus, his numbers versus lefties are almost as good as his numbers versus righties, so he can play against lefties as well. Yea his numbers in his career are pretty constant vs lefties, I was just looking at this years numbers. where would you hit him in this lineup? 2nd is taken, but with his OBP he would be nice there, he doesnt have much power so I doubt 5th, so Im guessing 7th. Hitting 7th would kind of negate his OBP since Kendall/Hill would be following him.
  6. So someobody please explain to me why I should want Church on this team? He cant help us with one of main weaknesses which is left handed pitching. I guess I dont see what there is that I should be excited about, but Im willing to listen to people tell me otherwise After looking at his career numbers I can see why people like him I guess. I love the 90-100 point difference in BA/OBP. However he cant hit lefties, which sucks
  7. wow we have a comic genius on our hands folks.Hurton damn thats a good one, really
  8. well he didnt jump up and rob Rowand of his HR duh
  9. Yeah, I was just looking at that-that's a lot of at-bats for a good hitter like Rollins to be so bad against a pitch to contact pitcher like Marquis. I couldn't believe it. The thing is, the Cubs face Adam Eaton and J.D. Durbin in this series. Then in the Mets series they have Zambrano going in game 1 and Lilly going in game 2 against El Duque and Pelfrey. They still have a good chance of going 4-3 on this homestand, which is just fine playing against the Phillies and Mets. They might face Lohse instead of Durbin, not that that changes your point any.
  10. they just lost to the hottest team in baseball over the last ten games, to one of the best left handed pitchers in the game. such a child mentality sometimes in this game thread. they lose=end of the season. People have passion for this team. They wanted to see the Cubs in 1st place, and the Cubs put up a crappy showing. Yeah, there's a lot of childish stuff in this thread, but it's a gamethread. People write about their anger as the game goes on. You can have passion and perspective at the same time though. The Cubs are 1GB, losing that half game is hardly the end of the world. And everybody here knows that
  11. Why do these people on tv keep acting like Cub fans give a damn that it was 2 ex White Sox that hurt the Cubs? Seriously, who gives a damn
  12. Tomorrow. He's scheduled to go more than one inning, which seems to be the last hurdle for him to clear before returning to the Cubs. Does anybody go through Iowa anymore? Tenn -----> Chicago -----> Iowa every time. Are the Cubs a AA 1/2 A team? The reason Kerry didnt go to Iowa is because Iowa is in Salt Lake right now, which is alot of traveling just to pitch a little more than an inning.
  13. Every team needs offensive help againt Hamels. LOl oh ok its another one of those "tip your caps huh" Nevermind the Cubs offesnive approach is horrible They got shut down by a very good pitcher, it happens to everybody. But go ahead and tell me I'm drinking Kool-aid. We sure do face a lot of very good lefties, huh?[/quote What does that have to do with tonight when they were facing one of the best young pitchers in baseball? Because it doesnt matter what lefty it is, its the same thing over and over.
  14. If the Cubs would have taken some pitches they wouldnt have made Hamels look so good. They were swinging at Crap all night, its pathetic, how aggressive this team is
  15. Hamels is good, but the Cubs offense makes basically any lefty look like Cy Young. They seen 19 pitches in the 7th and 8th inning combined. Thats absurd, and its nothing new with this team.
  16. well to defedn DeRo a bit, that pitch wasnt a strike
  17. Every team needs offensive help againt Hamels. LOl oh ok its another one of those "tip your caps huh" Nevermind the Cubs offesnive approach is horrible
  18. Yup why take a pitch or 2 to see if you can get some runners on? That would be dumb I guess
  19. game over good job offense, hendry this offense needs help
  20. Yea I like Z's chances better than Fontenots sub .600 OPS Umm, Fontenot doesn't have a sub 600 OPS. since the All Star break he does I figured that's what you were referencing... kinda cause you've said that at least 80 times in the last two days. Switch it up a little bit, like maybe mention that his OPS this month is sub 500. It makes your case so much better. ok just for you
  21. back 2 back pitchouts with Dempster who struggles throwing strikes? whatever it worked I guess He was safe
