  1. Why? Marshall and Hill will be fine. Don't worry about it. But Marquis wont, so there is reason to have concern about our rotation.
  2. Jason Marquis stats are skewed by his ridiculous start to the season. Jason was awesome his first month to month in a half of the season, but since then he has came back to earth, and remembered he is Jason Marquis. Since the All Star Break(4 starts) Jason has a 6.75 ERA and a 1.59 Whip, thats not good. He has gotten progressively worse in every month of the season April 2.35 ERA 1.17 WHip May 3.38 ERA 1.05 Whip June 5.09 ERA 1.70 Whip and July 6.29 ERA 1.51 Whip. Now take into consideration that over the course of Marquis career he has historically been terrible in the 2nd half every year, there is definatly cause for concern. Marquis is much more likely to continue on his terrible performances, and there is a very good reason for concern regarding him. At this piont, Gallagher is a much better bet to give you better pitching than Marquis is, and the sad thing is we have Marquis for another 2 years and 14 million dollars Yeah, that's why it's called an earned run average. Every pitcher goes through peaks and valleys, we're just lucky that Jason had such a great peak. I'm guessing not many (if any) of the other number 5 starters in baseball had that great of a peak. His contract is awful, but that's not on him. As the 5th starter on this team, he's doing his job better than every single other pitcher that has that role for other teams. It's pretty ignorant for people to slam him cause he isn't one of the top pitchers in the league. Hes not the 5th starter on this team, hes the #3. 4 runs in 5 innings tonight, once again a crap performance. The guy sucks in the 2nd half throughout his career and its not changing this year. He continues to tax our bullpen every outing, since he cant even make it past 6 innings. Hes a joke, and his contract that our dumbass GM gave him is even more of a joke. Did you watch tonight's game? Those four runs weren't exactly cause he was he getting lit up. Two that I can remember were a direct result of Pagan's suckage. And fine, he's the number three starter. His ERA prior to tonight's start was in the upper 40% of starters... in other words, if you're purely looking at ERA and assembling a rotation for each team, Marquis would be a number two starter. I won't argue about the contract. Three years was completely unnecessary. After the year he had last year, it should've been a one year deal with a team option for a second year. Yes I watched the game. 9 hits in 5 innings of work is not good. You keep bringing up his ERA, even though we keep telling you its been on a steep steady downhill spiral since the first month in a half of the season. Marquis was helped immensely by the wind blowing in and it being so cold out early on in the season. Now those same balls that were pop flys to Right, left, and center, are doubles off walls, or homeruns. Marquis is a huge concern right now for the Chicago Cubs. Given all his career numbers in the 2nd half, and couple that with the downhill spiral this year, there really is no hope with him. Yea he might have a start here or there where he only gives up 3 runs, but that really doesnt mean much when they are surrounded by 5, 6, and 7 run performances where he taxes our bullpen.
  3. I would be flat out shocked if Murton doesn't get major playing time. I would be absolutely shocked if we lost our starting LF, while facing a lefty, and Murton doesnt come in the game...Oh wait that just happened.
  4. My guess for the lineup since we all know Lou refuses to start Murton. 1.Theriot 2. Kendall 3. Lee 4. Aram 5. Floyd 6 DeRo 7 Fontenot 8 Pagan 9 Hill. This lineup would not surprise me one bit.
  5. Well at least it wasnt a DP I guess, but know we have another lefty in Fontenot YAY
  6. Seriously what has Murton done to Lou? Screw you lou,
  7. PH Murton for Jones here Lou. I dont care if you have to burn Jones, do not let him face a lefty!
  8. Theriot yes, Fontenot no, and Pie HELL NO regarding the leadoff spot. Pie is not a leadoff man.  Did you just say Therot can hit, that's not allowed on here, and will not be tolereated No I didnt say Theriot could hit. Out of the people who Lou are willing to play, since Murton must have slept with Lous wife, then yes Theriot is our best option at leadoff.
  9. Woods offspeed stuff looked as nasty as ever. WOW.
  10. Exactly. No one will be defending Marquis when he's paid $9 mil. to pitch mop-up out of the bullpen in '09. We won't take him out of the rotation. Hell we won't bench Jones for 5 million. jones is more valuable than marquis at this point. I don't think so, who takes Marquis spot in the rotation? Gallagher, hes ready right now
  11. Fine, consider him a #3 starter. He's better than most every #3 starter too. He has the 27th best ERA in the league. Yea because he had a 2.3 era the first month. Why do you keep ignoring the fact that his numbers in the 2nd half of the season in his career are absolutely horrible, and things arent changing so far this season. Marquis has historically gotten worse as every month goes on throughout his career. He is making our bullpen go 4-5+ every outing.

  14. So I just got on the comp, and I see Murton cant even get into a game against a lefty and we lose our starting RF? Instead we bring in Mike freaking Fontenot? Lou is an idiot
  15. lou is looking more and more like dusty every day. um, lou, didn't you learn anything from the hamels experience? lefties are hitting .320 against glavine this season, don't tell me that lou hasn't noticed this, he's just way too stubborn to admit that conventional wisdom is wrong, here. Not even close. i think there's a difference, but "old school managers" fall into the same pitfalls--like batting right handers against changeup-throwing lefties. Lou started Fontenot and Jones against Moyer, who is a lefty.
  16. While I agree with most of your post, the Cards are done. Their pitching is baaaaaaaad. Just wait till that Cubs Brewers series if you want to see nerve wrecking lol
  17. Damnit San Fran! SD wins on a Greene walk off single.
  18. I'm expecting 10 wins and I am expecting to see a lot more of Marion Barber who I think could really have a breakthrough year. The article putting them at 6-10 is just stupid. I think the Eagles right now are the team to beat, but this is the NFC and there is not much stability. In the East right? Not the entire NFC Im hopeing
  19. Yea because fighting and cursing each other out is a blast, and civilized discussions suck. If you like that type of thing I hear there is a board at http://www.cubs.com you might like I can do both, and switch between the two on the fly. FWIW, I don't think the suggestion was made that we would have a place where people can personally attack each other, just a place where R-Rated language would be O.K. Yea I know, and me personally, I have no problem with the language. My post was more about DKWG's backhanded slap at this site, and his constant bitching about certain aspects/people of this site.
  20. I finally ponied up a months worth, and more than likely at the end of the month Ill go ahead with the full year.
  21. Wow I just realized if SD loses we are tied for the Wild Card. Go Giants!
  22. Prior, Zambrano, Clement, and Estes. The first 4 starters were the reason the Cubs got in to the playoffs for the most part. Prior was 3rd in the NL in ERA, Zambrano was 7th, Wood was 8th, and Clement was 27th. interesting, the Cubs really did get screwed by the Wood/Prior injury train and well by Clement sucking so much all of a sudden. I blame the Cardinals, the entire universe seems to be in their favor. Actually I believe Clement left as a free agent at the end of that year, and then he started sucking. Clement had some of the nastiest stuff, but he could never harness his control. I still to this day dont understand why Z or Clement werent brought in from the BP against the Marlins, and instead we used Dave Veres gahhhhhh Clement pitched in 2004 for us too and had a good first half before he fell off the charts in the 2nd half. He was even shut down in September and Glendon Rusch picked up the 5th starter duties in the stretch run. Damnit thats right. He never has done anything since leaving the Cubs has he? I still remember that linedrive off his face man thats was brutal
