  1. Yeah, it's starting to look like it. He's done a tremendous job overall and really helped with Soriano out. However,'s he's got a 640 OPS in July, just 318 over the past 7 days. He probably needs a long rest. Hopefully he's got another spurt in him, but if he continues on the recent trend his overall Cubs numbers are going to fade quickly, and it may become necessary to callup Pie in a few weeks. Yea Im all for letting the Edmonds experiment continue for about a month longer but if he continues his recent trend into August I think they need to seriously consider calling Felix up. However, if they call him up they better give him the same treatment Edmonds got. All the starts against RH pitching, and let him slide into the 6th spot in the order. At least with Pie you have a top notch defender in the OF, and anything he gives you offensively is a bonus. The rest of the lineup is hitting well enough this year they can handle 1 guy not tearing the cover off the ball day in day out.
  2. But he continues to rack up the innings for Howry who has been getting hit harder than Brett Myers wife.
  3. After yesterday, we need a long reliever in case/for when Marquis gets pounded? Thats my best guess. Marshall Yeah, it probably has more to do with the rule that says Wuertz can't pitch any sooner than 10 days after his most recent outing so he's useless through the ASB. Yea it really doesnt make sense, Wuertz has proven a hell of alot more than Kevin Hart at the Major League level this year, and in the past. We have other relievers on this team that need straightening out a lot moreso than Wuertz.

  5. Reliever A: 44 ip 54 hits 7 HR's 6BB's 4.67 ERA 1.35 Whip .302BAA Reliever B 38IP 39 hits 4hrs 15BB's 3.55 ERA 1.42 Whip .265BAA Guess which of these 2 relievers just got sent to AAA and which one is still with the Cubs being used as a Setup guy.......
  6. Yeah, I couldn't imagine going 6 weeks without the Cubs' best hitter, or have their best pitcher on the DL... The Cubs havent went 6 weeks without their best hitter, or their 2nd best hitter. At best Soriano is our 3rd best hitter. He may be our best power hitter, but hes nowhere close to being our best hitter. Up until Sunday, he was still leading the team in HRs despite 2 DL stints this year, and he leads the team in SLG. He's arguably the most dangerous hitter in the lineup when he's healthy. When he was healthy in May, he was unquestionably the team's best hitter. So, to say nowhere close is a fallacy. Now, he's nowhere close to the most consistent hitter on the team, that's for sure. But when he's on, he's unstoppable. It could be said, though, at different points in the year, 5 players have been the Cubs best hitter, and I'm not talking 1 or 2 games. This is why the Cubs have been well suited to deal with injuries and slumps to offensive players this year. When Soriano, Ramirez, Lee, Soto and Fukudome can all be fantastic players when hot, it only takes one or two of them being on to carry the team. That said, the remainder of the lineup is no slouch either with DeRosa, Theriot and heck, Edmonds. I wont argue that Soriano isnt this teams best power hitter, but Lee and Aram are head and shoulders above him as pure hitters.

  8. I hadnt seen this posted anywhere, but apparently Marty has been given security while in Chicago due to his remarks in April. The "toughguy" then has the "cahoonies" to say this Wow what a tough guy. http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080708&content_id=3092422&vkey=news_cin&fext=.jsp&c_id=cin
  9. Yea Harden when healthy is great. Stone was saying this morning though that yesterday Harden was topping out at 92 and has been like that for his last 4-5 starts. Also said it seemed as if he was spending lots of energy to get the 92. Im not to fond of Stone at this point, so I really dont know how much of this is relative. according to fangraphs, his avg fastball is 92.6 this year. yesterday he had a 96 mph and 97 mph fastball, and had several pitches faster than 92, from what i can see in the mlb gamecast. Ok see Stone said he didnt break 92 or so at all yesterday, so surprise surprise Stones talking out his ass

  11. Yea there is noway we can come close to what Oak got for Haren. Im thinking we need to settle for Burnett, and stay the hell away from Randy Wolf
  12. it's not hardy. trading him makes absolutely no sense for milwaukee. While I agree it makes no sense, but that quote says "likely" speaking of Taylor Green, and I read Greens agent hadnt been notified.
  13. I didn't think major leaguers could be PTBNL... They can't be playing in the same league that they would be sent to. Since the trade is with Cleveland, everyone on the Milwaukee roster is available as a PTBNL. At least that's my understanding. And if the PTBNL is in fact Hardy, then lol Brewers. I'll be honest, I had no clue Hardy was even having a decent year. He's been awesome. If he's a part of this trade, that's going to really Milwaukee's offense. If i remember right, Hardy started out terrible, and has caught fire of late. My only question is if he is the PTBNL, when the hell does it get named?
  14. I didn't think major leaguers could be PTBNL... Yea thats what I was thinking, but this is what Stone said. Like I said take it for what its worth.
  15. Steve Stone was just on WSCR and is saying his sources are telling him that the PTBNL in the deal is in fact, JJ Hardy. Take it for what its worth
  16. Ok screw it, if Im the Cardinals I move HGH back to pitcher, and just let him pitch from CF, since he seems to know exactly where the ball is going from there.
  17. Coats....is he a new guy we have? :-" Just going off of what the Cards' announcer is calling him. Geo!!! Ahh ok I dont let that kind of crap on my TV sorry. I'd prefer not to... it's better than the alternative though. Ya any Cubs baseball is better than no Cubs baseball. Ok lets just put up a 5 spot here damnit
  18. Coats....is he a new guy we have? :-" Just going off of what the Cards' announcer is calling him. Geo!!! Ahh ok I dont let that kind of crap on my TV sorry.
  19. Great freaking job Cotts. Marmol in to face Pujols with nobody on next inning
  20. Who does he replace though? He's not better than Quentin, Drew, Bradley, or Sizemore. Well he does have a higher OPS than Quentin, and basically the same as Sizemore, so either of those would be understandable. I cant believe Sizemore is only hitting 265.
