  1. We'll see. He could end up like Miguel Cabrera, or he could end up like Pablo Sandoval. so either an elite hall of fame career or a good career I would say this is accurate on both (both that Pablo Sandoval had a merely but clearly good career and that that is Jr's floor.)
  2. Iowa uniform looks good on him. Keep him there.
  3. This is all about Zobrist wanting to see Bote get a chance over Russell. I've heard Zobrist is not at all happy that Russell has been welcomed back.
  4. Have to have lots of off days in April if you want none in September.
  5. While I don’t agree with your overall argument, this point kind of makes the discussion irrelevant and your argument functionally true. What? How? Joe Maddon making a decision doesn’t make it the right decision. And if you can pull an above average defender for a better defender late it doesn’t make the above average defender below average. His argument is demonstrably wrong. Demonstrably wrong but functionally true if Maddon uses him in ways that minimize his defensive contributions, like DHing him and removing him late in close games. I definitely overstated the point, but he contributes less defensively if he’s not allowed to contribute defensively,
  6. The numbers say otherwise Tell that to Maddon when he takes him out late in the game for defensive reasons. While I don’t agree with your overall argument, this point kind of makes the discussion irrelevant and your argument functionally true.
  7. Because I would have traded arismendy alcantara for babe Ruth if only they had listened to me.
  8. The damage Chili Davis wrought upon KB’s swing may be irreversible. Chili Davis sounds like a name a warlock would choose if he was trying to blend in with society.
  9. He will be trading places with Happ soon.
  10. Well.... LITERALLY ANY. We all said it.
  11. Then learns that the Cubs won the world series and declares that LITERALLY ANY sequence of events flowing to that moment and/or from it are worth it. "If we find out that the Ricketts' are all Nazis and Theo goes bald, I don't even care as long as the Cubs win a World Series in my lifetime"
  12. This just makes me wish Creed was the manager instead of Joe. Only if Pam is there to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid. I think the real answer is to find a Pam for Joe.
  13. The icing on this poop cake will be when Russell is lauded as having "saved the season" as the Cubs inevitably turn it around some time in the next 20 games. "Cubs' record before Addison Russell return: 11-17 After: 41-26" or some such graphic around the all-star break.
  14. And no thread up the day of the home opener.
  15. One thread cannot be expected to contain the negativity this year.
  16. Because there's selection bias in those splits. He doesn't see very many left handed hitters, and the few that he does see are guys like Rizzo who are going to skew the stats. That's the idea, anyway. It's certainly possible he jut has reverse splits, but I'm way to lazy to do any real digging into this. That's true, but I feel that Schwarber is a guy like Rizzo, where as Zagunis is not a guy like Rizzo. Schwarber is not a “guy” like Rizzo. Zagunis is not a lefty. Your words are broken.
  17. Add Russell, keep Zobrist, lose Zag and Bote. That’s your normal lineup vs lefties. Oh and apparently bat the pitcher 8th.
  18. First, I almost forgot this thread is about the Hendrix extension. With that in mind, I would like to say this is not the time to extend Baez. Second, I feel like Javy is likely to injure himself with his 125% play at some point in the next few years, unless is actually freezing and unfreezing time. Actually, the more I think about it, the simplest answer is that he is freezing and unfreezing time and that somewhere his parents are insisting that he not do his best so as not to arouse suspicions, ala dash of the incredibles.
  19. I'm assuming this is misinformation, but can anyone illuminate Heyward's 2020 contract status?
  20. That's what happens when you take a rest in the middle of a race while the other runners keep running. Yeah, but this race had a finish line in the middle.
  21. WIth a profile like Maples', I think the line between "effectively wild" and "control issues" is a fine one. Once he is "feared," I think major leaguers swing at those. But until he's proven that they could be strikes, there's no motivation to offer at them.
  22. Why is this not a bigger deal? The prophecy is fulfilled!
  23. Paul Goldschmidt does not strike me as the type of player who loses all baseball talent in his early thirties. There are some players who baffle me. Guys who seemingly fall off a cliff in the middle of their prime years. Goldschmidt has always been great. A good batting eye doesn't go away with age and he seems like he's got the physicality to maintain his strengths without losing a step well into his mid 30's. I think he remains his usual productive self for the majority of this contract. Because of this, I'm upset he's on the Cardinals. If what you say is true, the answer is it makes them happy then. ETA: Although Cubs fans who now are cheering against the Cubs probably still hate the Cardinals, too. Hating the current state of the cubs, the pathetic offseason and the shortcomings of management, and recognizing that Cardinals are dirty birds that defecate in their children’s mouths and are awful, are not mutually exclusive.
  24. I am convinced the entire strategy of the offseason was to make this happen.
  25. Broadcast said Maples was scheduled to pitch the bottom of the 9th, but since there was to be no bottom to the ninth, they had to get maples in the 8th.
