  1. I was at the game last night and will be there again. I guarantee a win. Cubs fans around me (cf) were hailing the virtues of Albert almora. I said he was slow and bad. When he made the average-ish catch they wanted to know what I thought of it. Surely no one else on the team could have made that catch. I didn’t want to argue so I didn’t tell them it was probably an 80% probability catch and that A real defensive center fielder would have been camped under it. They gloatingly let me know as they left that Almora hit .400 on the game. I didn’t tell them that 2 for five with two singles and no walks was only about league average ops and still was a great night for Albert. My poor wife had to hear all of it on the way back to the hotel. Edith Cox is a typical Cubs fan. Today I will not have to look at almora’s stupid curly hair and stupid face. Go Cubs.
  2. Regardless of the person I cannot stand either variation of the shortened name. "Javi" is the only one of those types of nicknames that I don't mind, and even that bugs me a bit (though at least it's an actual damn name) because of the context when a dunce like Maddon (or any of the other managers who have done it) says it. It sounds like someone talking about a 5-year-old. Like, get out of here with that "Stropy" horsefeathers. I generally agree, but I’m pro “Rizzy”
  3. It has to be satire. Edit: on second thought: do you remember tom29 from ten years ago or so? This person sounds like Tom studied sabrmetics at Phoenix College and came back with all the necessary skills to put us all in our place.
  4. Fouled a ball hard off his shin. Javy out. All Cubs are broken.
  5. Not to mention us sending down useable players, huh? Yeah Russell had 2 more hits today with a double, had 2 hits a HR a couple days ago. Maybe its bad Karma leading to all our bad luck with the way some of the fans refuse to move on like his ex-wife does. That’s the opposite of how karma works.
  6. I was just saying the same thing. Without looking at the brewers' lineup: "If he leaves him in to face a righty, he's an idiot." Then lefty after lefty comes up and cain sits on the bench.
  7. Makes sense. Kyle's only been slashing .286 .474 .714 1.188 over the last week. Can't have too much of a good thing! But seriously, who gives a horsefeathers if it's a LHP starting? Yeah, Schwarber is only hitting .203 .296 .362 .659 against them this year. But Almora is even worse with an abysmal .202 .237 .281 .517. I'd rather chance Schwarber having a good day against a southpaw, and forcing the Brewers to potential have to make real bullpen decisions, as opposed to Almora, who can't horsefeathering hit ANYBODY. That small advantage to schwarber on offense is probably balanced by better defense with this lineup. It’s a meh for me.
  8. Maddon not returning confirmed.
  9. Tony Kempana I wonder if they thought they had a deal for Caratini when they traded for Maldonado and that plan fizzled.
  10. I feel like if anything, he would use a non-LOOGY as a LOOGY, rather than use a LOOGY in a role that LOOGY can't handle. He settles into the obvious, this lefty should be able to get out a lefty because he's a lefty mindset, and in this case, it could work. Completely agree. Hasn't Maddon even done the cutesy "have the lefty go play a position for a hitter in between lefties" thing the Rays did the other day? I'm thinking Travis Wood? This is something that was pretty iconic to the “Maddon is crazy/eccentric” mythos. Something that should have been recalled without question marks. This what Solid state drive degradation looks like. Time for a backup, buddy.
  11. are we sure Russell can read? Only if the words he's reading are not on a sign. He can't read signs.
  12. The obvious solution is for other teams to hit him every game using a tube sock full of quarters.
  13. A more important factor is Hader’s deal with Baalzebub
  14. That is being exceedingly harsh to Corey Patterson, who put up a 2.5 WAR in half a season followed by a 5 WAR season, and then another 3.8 WAR season for the Orioles. The odds of Almora ever reaching Patterson's 10.9 career WAR is like 100 to 1. 100 to 1 seems like a bit of an over-exaggeration considering Almora has produced more WAR on a per PA basis so far in his career (3.0 in 1203 PA) than Patterson did in his (10.9 in 4499 PA). Not to say that he will keep up that pace for his entire career or even that he will get enough playing time in the majors to eclipse his WAR but its not unreasonable. How did I not realize that Patterson had nearly 2500 PA after the Cubs traded him?
  15. That is a one game suspension for a reliever.
  16. tie-win-win, but I agree whole heartedly. I, for one, welcome our robot overlords.
  17. Yu can do it!
  18. This is hate speech. I am an avid wine drinker and also an imbiber of mass quantities of cheap beer. #LoveIsLove Seriously, you can do both. Why do you hate fun? But Hurdle is a red assed turd who needs to go away. It seems like username notsosober would understand this.
  19. He has benefitted greatly from the pill enhanced ball (PEB). So many warning track fly balls the last couple of years. Going out this year!
  20. I’ll always remember seeing the headline in the newspaper of “McClendon steals first base” and thinking who the horsefeathers is McClendon and how did he steal first. You didn't know who former Cubs great and 1989 NLCS hero Lloyd McClendon was?
