  1. Like others have said, I don't have a problem with the "all hands on deck" approach to stretch runs, but PCA's skill set is just so redundant on this roster.
  2. Watching the Cubs get a big win over the best team in baseball to move within 2 games of first and 1.5 of a wild card spot, all I can think is how there's probably some random web site out there about to do a farm system ranking and we might be 6th instead of 5th. because we didn't sell. Was it really worth it?
  3. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ATL/ATL202208020.shtml
  4. That's certainly a testable hypothesis
  5. This entire conversation is why I prefer the term "variance" to "luck". When you describe the difference between average expected outcome from inputs and observed outcome as "luck," there is always people who will resist the explanation because it feels like you're describing some innate attribute.
  6. I would go so far as to say these are must-wins
  7. Working as intended. Good teams are more likely to have those things happen for them
  8. No. You're the one derailing this by trying to claim a basic point of human decency is 'political.'
  9. Another must-win. Not that they actually must win it, just it would be nice
  10. I care about pff grades, which would otherwise be the thing in football I care about the absolute least, more than I care about reports of what part of the team is "winning" training camp practices.
  11. Yes. It was disappointing that we couldn't enjoy the schadenfreude of listening to a specific rival baseball team's announcer talk about the baseball game that our baseball team was winning by doing baseball better than their baseball team did baseball, because that baseball announcer was fired for accidentally letting slip that he's a vile bigot during a previous baseball game.
  12. They'll still be completely wrong even if we lose out.
  13. (cubs now score more runs on the days after scoring 10+ than their overall average)
  14. Yes. They might have dug themselves too big of a hole due to sequencing early in the season, but they're a pretty good team.
  15. This is a must-win at-bat. by which I mean they don't have to win on this at-bat but it would be nice.
  16. That's ok, we've got some guys on the verge of call-ups. None of them are performing particularly well in AAA, but they're there and that's what's exciting.
  17. Honestly baseball-reference claims Choi spent parts of five years in the majors and hit 40 career home runs. 10 of them for us. I do not remember that at all, I thought he crashed out in like AA
  18. Hee Seop Choi catching a stray in a game thread in 2023.
  19. I don't think we really have anyone near-ready who looks particularly promising in the immediate term, but I'm a notorious hater. Most of our high-level pitching prospects are of the "this guy has a massive fatal flaw right now but boy if he put it together" variety, not ready to perform in the bigs tomorrow types.
  20. Going into today, the 2023 Cubs averaged 4.41 runs per game after scoring 10+ the game before.
  21. Not until they become good at developing pitching. Not there yet.
