  1. If your pick is late enough in the first round, you can pretty much lock yourself in to the comp pick only a few spots later next year. Assuming he wouldn't accept a QO.
  2. Even if you didn't want to always go BPA, the only time it would make sense to target a position is in the first round. If your organization is weak at catcher, and you take a catcher No. 40 overall, you are still weak at catcher.
  3. League average wOBA, 2012: 1b, .331 LF, .324 RF, .327
  4. A 22-year-old Ronny Cedeno isn't our No. 25 prospect, either. Correct, because he could field a tough position. Because when a 22-year-old hits at AAA, nobody has 24 better prospects. I doubt Marwin Gonzalez would have been much higher than 25 last year. "Hits at AAA"

  7. A) If everything goes well for vitters, I'd say .300/20 is more in his wheelhouse than .275/20. B) A .275/20 3rd baseman is super awesome. C) He's *really* close to being there, seeing as how he actually hit in AAA.
  8. I think Vitters at 25 after having a very solid season as one of the youngest players in AAA is pretty much the last straw for me caring about what BA thinks. They are wrong a ton.
  9. Pretty soon we'll have the best prospects, the best front office, the best field. That's every important facet of the organization, right?
  10. Unless there's a hole opening up at just the right time, I'm guessing Vizcaino spends the whole season at AAA.
  11. Our long national nightmare is over. Lendy Castillo DFA, Villanueva official.
  12. The previous CBA specifically exempted picks that got pushed out of the protected zone. That language was removed in this CBA. That has to be intentional.
  13. If the organization is looking to improve efficiency, the team physical process is a good place to start. Pretty sure they're looking for inefficiency. Flipping the bird to MLB roster rules is apparently an exploitable inefficiency. It's simultaneously annoying and admirable.
  14. You guys playing cards?
  15. Yes, as has been mentioned like a bajillion times in this thread. I'm not going to read 19 pages about this stupid park just to have one question answered. I'd like to make it through one offseason where real estate isn't one of the team's top 5 issues.
  16. How feasible is it for the Cubs to break out the screens and flip off the rooftop owners again? Don't we have some kind of contract with them now?
  17. MLB having expanded to 45-man reserve lists.
  18. Who knows if we are done, but it just feels so weird that we didn't really do anything long-term with the outfield.
  19. Pretty close. I mean, if they started the year with this team and tried to win games all year (as opposed to making dumps at the deadline and calling guys up just to make a point or whatever), then 78-80 seems right. The starting rotation is pretty good, the offense is pretty bad, and the bullpen is pretty average. Honestly, it doesn't strictly move the meter that much on the projection. I already liked our OF depth and Campana has this nagging value that people don't want to admit. Mostly this just clears the way for a Soriano trade without hurting things too much, and maybe makes you feel a little safer about DeJesus in CF. I'd feel a lot better if we added a reliable sixth infielder. I've got nightmares about Lillibridge filling the Joe Mather role to the tune of -2.5 WAR this year.
  20. Watch Teheran be the headliner when they're asking the Cubs for Castro. I really don't think they're being jerks or anything. I hate to equate it to fantasy, but haven't you ever had someone approach you about a player and you just don't like anything on their roster? They have one guy who would be a huge overpay and then nothing else that would make you want to make a deal. If the Diamondbacks don't for Baez, which makes sense with their "overreacting to attitude" MO, then it makes sense that there's nothing from us they'd want in an Upton deal short of Castro.
  21. I don't think it for sure means that. He still makes the roster with a Soriano trade.
