  1. "when they are good" seems like the least relevant scenario when discussing the Chicago Cubs.
  2. Under. Way under. Even ZIPS, with it's massive Rizzo boner, predicts 45 between the two.
  3. No complaints here.
  4. Not a surprise, but Sveum said Bowden has made the team.
  5. Because the Tigers don't want Marmol.
  6. I like both Prior and Teixeiria over Appel and Bryant.
  7. 4-6 weeks of Garza, and probably 4 weeks less of Baker than I was counting on, maybe more. That's on the borderline between 1 and 2 wins worth of loss there. Probably 2 when you consider that the bullpen is also weakened by moving two guys to the rotation. Our scenarios all involved getting lucky-hot early and avoiding the sell-off, so 2 losses in the first half hurts a lot.
  8. 20th for our position players is much better than I would have guessed. #$%@#$ pitching injuries, we might have had a small chance.
  9. I'm going to have to call hyperbole on this one. One of the best values from late in the draft? Fine. One of the Cubs' best draft picks ever? Whatever, Phil. I'm kind of curious who the best Cubs draft picks ever actually are. Maddux is surely No. 1. Grace, Carter, Palmeiro. Anyone else of note?
  10. Almost everyone is going to move down a spot once cuts start coming down and the real season begins.
  11. Cardinals released Cedeno today. We need to jump on that.
  12. I was going to say that it was nice of them to make a trade for a guy so unimportant that we probably don't have to re-do the top-50.
  13. Clevenger would be in more of a 1b/3b/C Tyler Houston mold.
  14. He has 40 games of it in the minors.
  15. Well, you alluded to imagining how it would look and feel if Theo had a hand in it... I'm not really sure what you could have meant he'd have a hand in besides maybe field dimensions. It would be cool to have one of those parks you can build an organization to exploit. Like short left-field porch and lots of right-handed fly ball hitters and sticking a terrible defensive outfielder in left.
  16. I don't know that I'd want Theo dabbling in the architecture of our new park. Just saying. I'd like the idea except I suspect he'd make it as bad for our current organization as possible in order to improve our draft position, plus he'd skimp on the expenses to try to save money for more bad Cuban pitchers.
  17. Bench seems to be: Sappelt, Hairston, Lillibridge, Clevenger, Navarro. I kind of wish we had Lahair back.
  18. If we get to the fire sale quickly enough, we can get there. It'll take some luck to catch the first two, but I think the Rockies are in our sights.
  19. The Cubs weren't getting past the Astros for the No. 1 pick short of trading Castro and Rizzo while signing no new free agents.
  20. Meh. Given what showed up in spring training and Stewart's injury, I can't even make a plausible roster that doesn't include him. I really thought we were going to get some attention paid to the infield bench between December and February.
  21. The cynical, hate-filled part of me wants to note that Stewart has to know he can't get cut in Spring Training while hurt, and if he doesn't get cut in ST, his contract becomes guaranteed. I can't help but note that they didn't actually say what Baker's setback was or what the MRI found. I guess that 85 MPH fastball wasn't nothing. Best case scenario is that he's shut down for a bit, then has to start from scratch again and they'll take it slow. An early June start to the season would be best-case scenario, I'd have to think. Hoyer's finger tightens around the fire-sale trigger.
  22. He's been in since the first day of spring training.
  23. What are we doing to do about Armando Rivero?
  24. Yes, as opposed to the sterling rep that Chicago has. Or anywhere in Illinois. Screw you, Mattoon is squeaky clean.
