  1. Pirates TV guy said Alvarez can get you "three quick points."
  2. You have no idea how close I was to typing "If Shark gets a DP ball and Lillibridge boots it, I'll..." but I couldn't think of a good threat. Well, at least we're getting ground balls.
  3. Tell us more. In fairness, it was a different, meatier pitch. Castro hit a lowish curve. Rizzo crushed a high, hanging fastball.
  4. Wasn't it last year where we were like threatening to make it to May without a HR? This is all Samardzija needs.
  5. If Burnett gives that same pitch to Rizzo that he just gave to Castro, it'll be 2-0.
  6. It's basically just nacho cheese colored. The third pitch to DeJesus was a ball. Screwed up the whole PA.
  7. Your dissent only convinces me I'm right. It's not even gold. It's just yellow.
  8. Yellow is such a stupid color for a sports team. I want to sweep them.
  9. Pitching matchup favors Cubs and their lineup is barely any better (both are awful). Advantage: Cubs.
  10. I'm upping my projection to 13 wins a year. That's what first-class instruction does for you in your teen years.
  11. Was really hoping the final round of the World Chess Candidates tournament would finish up before the Cubs game started, but it looks like the pivotal game is going to go quite long.
  12. I hang my hat on his peripherals outside of power all being better than Stewart's last year. But he's probably pretty bad.
  13. Has to do with being added right around Rule 5 time. AZPhil's site has the explanation on it somewhere, iirc.
  14. Barney DLed, Gonzalez rostered, Whitenack removed from roster (presumably DFA/waived).
  15. ...because Samardzija is actually the perfect example of this? Yeah, I realized that after I typed it. I almost got away with that one. Still don't think it's common enough to be a point in someone's favor.
  16. How do we know it's not like that? I can think of lots of trainable skills where you if miss certain windows, you'll always be inferior. Foreign languages and chess, off the top of my head. I'm willing to draft/sign raw players on the chance that they develop skills, but I'm not going to give them extra projection credit over a player the same age who has been trained properly.
  17. I'll never get how "not getting premium, baseball-specific instruction during key athletic developmental years" is an argument in favor of guys like Castro, Szczur, or Samardzija.
  18. If two wins a year from a single player is a rounding error, then I think the valuation method may be ill-considered. (aka, I still hate linear $/WAR, no matter what Dave Cameron says)
  19. Yes, and? I think he might be on a HOF track. I'm curious how many stagnant years it would take before that isn't the case anymore.
  20. Pirates are going: Marte LF r Jones RF l McCutchen CF r Alvarez 3b l Sanchez 1b r Walker 2b s Martin C r Barmes SS r Burnett P r That's a little better than I thought their lineup was. But if Samardzija can't dominate that on a coldish day in April, I will be disappointed.
  21. Fernandez will be back in AA sometime in May, I'd imagine.
  22. Castro, Rizzo, Baez for Harper? I think so.
