  1. how does the bench suck ass? they're platooning a solid outfielder (schierholtz/hairston) which means one reasonably good PH, and the backup catcher can also hit. if sappelt doesn't suck (TBD) then the bench is pretty solid. The OF bench is pretty good, the backup catcher is hot now but probably meh in general. The infield bench has one good one (Valbuena) and one terrible one (whoever at any given moment). I'd call it average, maybe a bit above?
  2. ok Come on, man; HANDS DOWN. You can't argue with that. We're one more loss away from a "'nuff said" situation.
  3. Sinking liner to center, looked like it would drop, diving catch.
  4. It's probably not. But dang, I thought that was going all the way to the wall when he dove. :banghead:
  5. First, Theo lies and spins with the best of them. Second, I have plenty of Theo-led complaints that have nothing to do with not splurging on FAs in 2011-12.
  6. OK, as fake rallies go, this one has some gumption.
  7. Just the opposite. I keep hoping that if enough people acknowledge that things are not going well, there might be some pressure on the front office to fix it. It's a long shot, I know.
  8. I don't get the joke. That's exactly what I'm going to do. Perfunctory fake rally comment.
  9. Baez had a.373 BABIP in Peoria, then much lower in the Midwest League.
  10. That's like asking Theo Epstein to stop wrecking the franchise with his farm system fappery. It's too late. The die has been cast.
  11. Fewer are. Cubs drew 222,696 to their first six home games last year. This year, it's 194,708. If we average the same shortfall for the whole year, that'd be 378k fewer fans than last year (and that's just the announced attendance). At a conservative estimate of $65/fan (including concessions and merchandise), that's a $25m revenue dropoff. I wonder how the weather compared. Using B-R's gametime temp average. 2012: 52 degrees 2013: 44 degrees
  12. I want to see someone charge the mound on him.

  14. This team is like drowning just below the surface of the water. So close to being adequate.
  15. If the power is there, I can live with that.
  16. First inning fielder's choice, but he did steal a base off it.
  17. I've still got a lot of faith in him. He's going to stick in the rotation for as long as we want him. Meanwhile, could we hit some more fly balls? Great night for it.
  18. He's played at least 10 games in CF every year since 2007. I haven't scouted him or anything, but the defensive metrics don't hate him there.
  19. Hairston would move from RF to CF in that situation.
  20. Not surprising. Just because his suspension is over doesn't mean the Cubs will promptly send him up. Obviously I was wrong, but it does surprise me. He's been keeping active in Arizona. What does he gain from sitting out more?
  21. It is indeed. The ball is really dying in the air tonight. Great night for Wood to be pitching.
  22. It feels so weird to be glad Darwin Barney is back.
  23. Not me. Bring it on.
  24. Is Brett Jackson hurt? He's not in the Iowa lineup tonight.
