  1. I wonder how Epstein has liked his indoctrination to Cubs probability the last two years.
  2. Yes, tied with a bunch of other 89 mph fastball replacement-level righties.
  3. A moment of silence for Ian Stewart's Cubs career.
  4. Pretty sure it's the Tribune you can thank for that one. Not really. Tim just got too cute with the pick. He's had some interviews lately where he said he wanted Wieters but wasn't given the budget to sign him. He ended up going for more than twice slot value for our pick.
  5. He has to be the worst catcher in the league at receiving/framing pitches His defense has been so disappointing. He looks much more like a backup than a starter. His defense would be acceptable if his bat were well above-average, and his bat would be acceptable if his defense were above-average, but neither is the case.
  6. I expect them to move slower than we expect. Exactly 500-600 AB? No. But something close to a full season per level in the mid-to-high minors? Yes.
  7. I haven't exactly got a database to check this against, but it seems like for that one counter, we've got a dozen or more fan-consensus projections for assignments/promotions that turn out to be wildly optimistic.
  8. Who do you bump to make room for Garza when he's ready? Wood on pure performance (using peripherals and not ERA), Villanueva or Feldman on the fact that either might not be ready for 30+ starts in a season.
  9. Am I underestimating the DeJesus trade market? I see pick 34 as a back of the Cubs top 10 type prospect with the additional benefit of the Cubs getting to pick anyone available at 34, not just picking from a limited set of players in one specific organization. Seems like good value for DeJesus if they're going to trade him. Eh, part of it is that I'm just not crazy about non-top draft picks. Doing a quick list off the top of my head, I'd have a hard time seeing a guy picked there cracking our top 10 after the draft, though they'd be in that 8-20 range where you could argue for just about any order and be reasonable. DeJesus is a really useful MLB starter with a team-friendly option for next year. If I'm trading him, I'm imagining a Maholm-like return. Just a pick would be disappointing. Not "storm the castle and burn it down" levels of rage, just on the low end of what I'd consider reasonable.
  10. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=rel&lg=all&qual=0&type=3&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Our bullpen is 29th in net WPA at -2.22. The Mets have inched past us right now for -2.24. The league average is about +0.7, so we're already three wins in the hole against average with our bullpen (after last year's total of -7.5 against average). We'd be .500 with an average bullpen. I know that it would have been extremely lucky for our pitching rotation to be completely healthy at this point, but dang it would have been awesome to have Fujikawa and Feldman in the pen all along.
  11. I think it's fair to give Soler another week to get back into a grove after what he's gone through the last 3ish weeks (even though most of it has been brought on by himself) before we really start worrying about/questioning him. Being annoyed by a slump doesn't mean I'm questioning his long-term projection or anything. It'd just be nice if we didn't have to go all the way down to Vogelbach before we have a "wow, look at that guy's start to the season" prospect.
  12. Anytime Soler wants to hit a HR again is fine by me. Or at least have a bunch of hits fall in. It's like no one wants to be the No. 1 prospect in this system.
  13. Someone forward those numbers to Dale so he can explain to Anthony why he shouldn't be drag bunting.
  14. Well, Borbon just shot up in my list of favorite Cubs right now.
  15. The new stadium would not have those things as construction was ongoing like Wrigley would. The *entire* reason we are having to negotiate with the city is because we either cannot or are unwilling to pay for this out of pocket. If the Cubs just wanted to refurbish the clubhouse and do all that stuff, no one would stop them.
  16. I kind of wish Castillo had been thrown out there because it would have been hilarious.
  17. Whatever you do guys, don't hit the ball hard. Apparently that's not what you need to score runs.
  18. are you even watching the game? this is not on the pitching in the slightest bit. my god Well, a little bit. A walk and a HBP and a pretty bad pitch that was a passed ball. Like 2% their fault and 98% only sully's teams.
  19. This one hurts. I know it's stupid to get excited over 12-16, but I kind of was.
  20. And a ground ball for a base hit in a clutch situation. Because Cubs.
