  1. If it's not broken by Friday night, I'll assume it was a false alarm and tell everyone on the assumption that it wasn't really true. Honestly, I thought he was going to break it right after he messaged me or I wouldn't have said anything. I didn't mean for this to turn into some stupid drawn-out thing, but everything with these Cubs does.
  2. If they did land Tanaka....would you guys want to extend Shark, or look to move him for younger arms, like Toronto?? Probably keep him at least for this year and see how it goes.
  3. I said 8/$200m on Tanaka other times this offseason. I mean, what else are we going to spend it on? All we're going to do if we don't get Tanaka is just keep saying "We don't want to overpay for guys past their primes" and whiffing.
  4. Who knows. 8/$200 wouldn't bother me at this point.
  5. Would still need some good development and more outside help, but looks a lot more doable than without him.
  6. @#$#@$ I want this so bad. I wish all FA chases had a deadline this. Nine days, no matter what.
  7. I've changed my vote three times based on arguments in the thread. Soler is just really hard to evaluate.
  8. I've been to third base in a church.
  9. I got that when my wife left me. When that didn't last, I knew it was time to pay off the years I had spent building up my Ty Youngfelt persona.
  10. I PM'd Tim and one other poster with the request that they not share the info or acknowledge that I told them (which I guess we can negate now because I'd like to head this off before it turns on me completely).
  11. *shrug* I figured it'd be better to know that it's not like when the Royals had a big press conference announcement and it turned out to be a minor signing. If he's right, and given the credibility he's built up, then this is worth paying attention to. If not, then everyone can go back to ignoring him outside of PSD.
  12. Mostly that I think. He is a Rays scout. Not sure if area/local or whatever. And he has been right about a few things well in advance of our local media so that's where the followers probably built up from. He was already a respected source when I started reading PSD a year or two ago, but in that time he's been very good at reporting which lower-tier FA pitchers the Cubs are in on long before anyone else had it.
  13. Please, Kyle would be pleased if the receptionist at his therapists office smiled when he scheduled his next appointment. I'm thinking of asking her to go to a board game convention with me.
  14. Did he give a timeline on when he can release this information? Is this something we'll find out more about later tonight or later this week? He did not, but my guess is that *if* it's true, it won't be long. He's waiting for a second source to confirm, and I assume that if he's telling me, he must be expecting it very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if the beat reporters are chasing it down, too.
  15. PM plz You know I'm one of the nicer people to you here You are, and I'd love to spread it around, but it was really cool of him to tell me and I'd rather not burn him. I want him to have his scoop.
  16. Ty messaged me what the news is, said he's waiting for second confirmation. It's ... not small news at all. Definitely significant.
  17. A really amazing deal would excite me. If this is just "we didn't have to give our 2015-2019 games away for the same price they are now," meh.
  18. I'm pretty eager to be excited about it being either of the 40%ers I mentioned...moreso the TV deal, since that comes with some major certainty of revenue, I think, but both are pretty big. We're going to get a TV deal eventually. It's going to be for more money than we make now. That just doesn't excite me.
  19. He said it's not related to a player transaction. I hate this stupid offseason so much.
  20. Well, obviously, but idk I'd just think that if you cared enough about the Cubs to post here you probably at least googled the hope of the franchise at least once. I would recognize his slash line on a spreadsheet.
  21. What do you mean by this? It's been going around that Tanaka and his wife are pretty much set on NY or LA to help her music career, and that the other teams are just being kept in the conversations to try to drive up the price.
  22. I would take Baez over Bogaerts.
  23. My urge to hate everything this ownership does is being pitted against my hatred of people who think arbitrary lines in the sand for their sports team are some kind of moral crusade.
  24. I'm pretty sure there were rumors that we were "in on" every one of those players. I've always remembered one Red Sox fan saying Epstein took almost fanatical pride in setting a sticking point price in every transaction and not budging it even a penny beyond, no matter how much momentum the deal had. I'm ambivalent on how that is working out for the Cubs.
