  3. The fact that this game does not start at 7 p.m. is probably Crane Kenney's fault.
  4. A team that led the league in wins had a good season from a lot of its players? the hell you say.
  5. Oh lord Javy that was worse than I imagined. That was Patterson-esque at his worst. But yeah, he's always had all that waggle.
  6. Out of Szczur, Vitters, Baez, Villanueva and Alcantara, how many of our Iowa hitting prospects have an OBP over .300 this season after today?
  7. Here's one that bugs me. Coco Crisp was a free agent after the 2011 season. He re-signed with Oakland, but not before hitting the open market for awhile. He got 2 years/$14m with a club option for 2015. He put up 6.5 fWAR in those two years. Where's our equivalent outfielder? Saving a couple of million on DeJesus and getting half as much fWAR?
  8. You already promised me I could call your wife ugly. You can't change the deal to farting on your heart.
  9. There've been successes too, but the hit rate just isn't good enough. More failures: Sweeney, Hairston, Corpas, Baker, Fujikawa, Volstad, Mather, Baker, Sappelt, Borbon. And that's only including guys from outside the organization. There's also been a ton of guys we gave promotions from within to that didn't deserve them.
  10. This is the scary part. Someday when we're trying to be good, we're going to need a cheap RFer or 3b or 2b and we're going to get a Nate Schierholtz (-0.6 fWAR this year) or Ian Stewart of Brent Lillibridge, and that might just cost us a playoff spot or a division.
  11. Pretty much. There's no superficial reason that explains a .500ish OPS with 37% Ks completely. Simple narratives are appealing more often than they are right, but it seems to me that this is just the first time in his life he's faced pitching that is both interested in and capable of executing repeated breaking balls in the dirt. At lower levels, guys are working on pitches and don't really care much about scouting reports. Plus they hang stuff a lot more. At AAA, you are starting to see more of the guys with experience and consistency, even if the actual stuff isn't good enough to come into the zone with against MLB hitting (which doesn't matter against Baez because they don't have to come into the zone).
  12. Do we need to take a look at Iowa's hitting coach? Not one of the hitters down there who could even be vaguely considered a prospect is having a good season. I think at this point the best thing to hope for is that the real Javier Baez was kidnapped during the offseason and this is a lookalike who will only be around until #ptr can save up the ransom money.
  13. In spring training, guys are working on things and don't care who is up. In AAA, you get crummy veterans who are capable of noticing and executing "Hey, this guy will swing and miss at most breaking balls in the dirt."
  14. That happens when you hit more flyballs than groundballs and have a LD% of 10 None of which is sustainable. Flyballs will come down, LD% will come up, HRs will come down, BABIP will go up.
  15. Baez 0-for-2 with 2 Ks Alcantara 0-for-2, pushing his OBP down to .283 Christian Villanueva 0-for-1, coming into the day with a .639 OPS Vitters is striking out at a rate that we would consider bad if we didn't have so many horrorshow K-rates in our system overshadowing it. Iowa is depressing.
  16. I can buy us playing near-.500 for the next six weeks before we start gutting the team via trade.
  17. Greinke has had some very minor elbow issues. Hamels just came back from shoulder problems.
  18. That pretty much covers it. Then what would TBFIB be able to use to prove how great they are by applauding? Productive outs, beanballs and DUIs.
  19. Why would I do that? Sounds kinda mean. But no worries, Olt is gonna be awesome.
  20. Closing out a series in six on the road is this team's signature move. It's going to be fun, but it'd be more fun if Minnesota had serious title hopes and wasn't just a "happy to be here" opponent.
  21. We get to knock the Cardinals below .500 again. I want to do it over and over again.
