  1. He *was* elite. The injury lowers his value significantly.
  2. Cease means nothing here because of TJS, correct? He means about as much as any other non-elite HS/teenage IFA arm. Throw a dozen into the blender of the low minors and maybe one or two will surface in AA worth caring about.
  3. I just can't care that much after the first few picks. If we called around and offered like Nate Schierholtz and picking up his salary, we could probably get a half-dozen of these "back of the top 1000" prospects or whatever. They are less than the throw-ins you get for being nice and sending some AAA roster-fill to a team that doesn't have the right roster-fill at the moment.
  4. In early 2011, they were ranked 28th in the farm system rankings by BA. In 2011 they went 74-88.
  5. If I get a job I might have to give up that sweet, sweet alimony. Cumpton seems like he sucks looking at his ERA. Hammel is a beast. I feel ... good? about the Cubs chances.
  6. As for the other stuff, I didn't once say I wanted them to draft someone different. As for this, where would place the average 200th best draft prospect in the overall MLB prospect rankings? Well, most players in the minors have already proven they will never make the majors. So closer to 200 than 2000. That's still a pretty broad range.

  8. Yep, while Theo's "plan" has merit, he also could have very easily become the A's if he was smarter. A year before Epstein took over the Cubs, the A's were just as bad as the organization Epstein inherited by all the usual standards (MLB wins, farm system ranking) and without the budget he has had.
  9. I'm still holding on to that one. I've got half my hope.
  10. All I'm saying is that I was holding on to the slim, slim hope that maybe the public consensus was wrong and there were half a dozen teams inside baseball hot after Kyle Schwarber as the 4th-best talent and the bonus would reflect that. "Hooray, he's confirmed a mediocre underslot" doesn't cause me to celebrate. As far as a dozen top-200 draft prospects, hooray, I guess. There's roughly 5 years worth of prospects in the minors at any given time. The draft makes up half the prospects in each year, with IFAs making up the other half. So "top-200 draft prospect" is just a fancy way of saying "Top-2000 prospect."
  11. At least I'm being consistent. I cheered when Bryant and Almora commanded full slot.
  12. None of which means I can't be disappointed that "everyone" wasn't wrong about what was happening and Schwarber would actually demand near-full-slot.
  13. We traded back. Something you advocated in this draft. Paying Schwarber MORE makes you happy? Paying Schwarber more would have meant that all the pundits were dumb and the real decision-makers thought Schwarber was awesome and there was no need to "trade back."
  14. Ick. That just means that like half a dozen teams could have said "don't agree to that with the Cubs, we'll offer you more if you fall to us" and didn't.
  15. Can I put 2/3rds of those guys in "never"?
  16. I feel like there might be a number in between you just skipped over.
  17. Cubs are tied with the Tigers for No. 1 in SP fWAR.
  18. The Spurs forgot how to miss.
  19. This stupid park has cost us like 5 HRs in two games.
  20. Pittsburgh broadcast you could hear a fan yell "Lazy f@#$! piece of s#@" clear as day.
