Ah crap, Mike Olt is becoming a thing again among Cubs fans. This is going to be maddening all off-season. I almost want him to get a September call-up just so when he flails again, maybe he'll finally go away as anything other than an 8th infielder stashed in AAA.
You can laugh all you want. It cheapens everything. You can't tell me you don't have that nagging doubt every time there's an awesome play where the guy gets within five feet of the sideline.
In this scenario, we're kids whose parents always promise us they are going to get the candy-bar next door and then when we get there it turns out they were lying.
The best team had a chance to advance by winning the division. Nobody cares if the best team advances in the wild-card round. The four wild card WS winners since it's implementation in 1994 probably care. Which is pretty statistically appropriate to support the "crapshoot" ideology. All the more reason for a scenario that gives the best chance the best WC team advances. I realize it's still a crapshoot. I also realize it's a matter of opinion. My opinion is that the WC team has as a chance to win the WS as any other team. Take an extra day or two to allow for the nature of one game anomalies. You are the Digger Phelps of playoff-format opinions.
I'm nervous that the Angels or god-forbid the A's lose the wild-card game this year and the resulting media stupid hysteria ruins this awesome playoff setup.
