It's a stretch to call him a star. And he was the only guy to trade and potentially get back a haul. The haul wasn't there, other teams knew the Hawks were against the cap. If Stan found a deal I'm sure he would have been gone. But that being said the cap crunch coming Im glad they kept Sharp for another Cup run. Probably wont make a serious run again until 2018. If they had wanted to trade Sharp, the haul was there. They've proven time and again that the "teams will know they are up against the cap" theory is silly. As long as you have two interested teams in a player, you have plenty of leverage.
