  1. The Cubs were one of the pioneers of overslotting and had several years where they went huge. It only went away for a few years at the end when the Tribune was ready to sell and told Hendry to go into scorched earth mode.
  2. It *has* to be a sign of planning to sign multiple pick-losing players.
  3. Maybe stop practicing with 12 players and 3 downs.
  4. I wonder if we can trade with Tampa Bay to get Lovie back.
  5. Bowen is one of the least meatbally former player turned-reporter that's in the industry right now. Surprising to see him so vocal about the lack of accountability. Well, I'll say this. 99 times out of 100 the touchy-feely stuff is crap. But this team has totally given up due in part to lack of leadership.
  6. Apparently they don't have to.
  7. He knows he's done. He's got to play it out because that's what you do, but he knows he's in over his head.
  8. Nobody should be surprised by this. Annoyed? I guess. But surprised? No.
  9. I just remember the first couple years there'd be several times a game where he'd make a throw and you'd say to yourself "damn, almost nobody else puts that ball in that place in that way." And I can't remember any this year.
  10. He's almost certainly going to be our best option for at least two more years after this one. Which is why if this new mediocrity is permanent, we are so probably screwed. You can win with current Jay Cutler as your QB, but you need to be really good everywhere else, and we're nowhere close to that.
  11. It's really beginning to sink in to me that Jay Cutler is really mediocre now. He's not bad or the reason they are losing, but he's not as good as he was when they traded for him.
  12. It doesn't particularly bother me. The tampering complaints will end up going nowhere.
  13. They got busted fooling with the Rule 5 draft. Let's not pretend they never push the rules and get caught.
  14. All of this. This team is built entirely around its skill-position stars, and they aren't *that* good and seem to be declining.
  15. I can't wait to see what the Lions do to this team.
  16. This is deep, deep rock bottom. It's the NFL, so you can always get a lucky year in no matter who you send out there next year or whenever. But this organization looks so deeply screwed for a number of years. I don't trust the ownership to hire a new GM/whatever, I don't trust Emery to hire a new coach, I don't trust the coach to hire new coordinators. Cutler's arm has taken a step back this year. My fear is that the hits over the years have piled up and robbed him of his ability to execute his mechanics properly. And Cutler without an amazeballs arm is how this offense repeatedly fails to score points when the game is in doubt. The rest of the roster is getting exposed as either old or bad or both. Marshall had clearly lost a step this year even before the latest injury. Jeffery is a good No. 2 receiver but probably overrated due to some spectacular catches. Forte is going to hit a wall soon and doesn't really do anything that defenses need to worry about. And the best long-term asset on the defense is a pretty good CB. If you wanted to be the best team in the division next year, the list of things you need is huge: A new coaching staff A deep threat WR Probably two OL A legit second RB An impact defensive lineman and preferably two Two starting linebackers (maybe three) Two safeties A CB An entire special teams unit. And even that might not be enough. tl;dr: It could take years to untangle this mess and I don't trust anybody making any of the decisions.
  17. Maybe I'm meatballing, but I think that's what it looks like when a pro sports team gives up and doesn't care en masse.
  18. And look how bad things got after he left.
  19. Why? I mean, sure, fire him too, but why before Tucker? Because at least all the other teams are working really hard to have good offenses and thwart our terrible defense. But it shouldn't be that hard to fart out a functional ST unit.
  20. If anyone's getting fired, it's *got* to be ST coach.
  21. I really want Rodgers to get the 6th.
  22. That doesn't count against his QB rating. He had guys open and flinched.
  23. I hope the Bears got a nice check for putting a D-I beating on the schedule like this before we go back to the FCS schedule.
  24. I'd be surprised if anyone is fired midseason. It's just not done that often.
