  1. Right, but its also lazy to see why the Hawks lost that series. Its much more than just blaming it on an unlucky bounce(to me that is a real meatball stance) Anyway Joel Quenneville confirms after practice that Patrick Sharp will miss 3-4 weeks There's always got to be *reasons*. That's how you end up with people who hate Cutler and love Ryan Theriot.
  2. I do not want to have another season where the Cardinals are the consensus best team in baseball. Yeah, I'd prefer 2004 happen to them, of anything. I'd like to see 2010-2014 happen to them.
  3. Yeah, if the minority owner is paying for the renovations, that's a relief.
  4. Lester is only going to boston first to pick up a few things and throw people off the trail. Theo asked him to meet with them as a favor to Cherington, so it looks like the Red Sox are doing something and keeps the fans appeased.
  5. Yeah, but I'm still betting Theo tampered the hell out of Lester and the parameters of the deal have been set for months.
  6. I'm probably dumb, but I'm 95% sure that Epstein doesn't put out all this talk about getting big pitchers if he didn't already have Lester most of the way done before the offseason even began.
  7. You can state that as confident as you want, but you don't know it. This team is made up of quite a few young players who still have plenty of upside left. How they develop will determine a lot of what happens in those years.
  8. Lack of depth LAST year. Meatball? I'm the furthest from it. Did you see the Minnesota series? The Hawks talent overcame it, but it only took them so far. You are blinded by the fact that the Hawks fought their way back to game 7 OT in the WCF And you're blinded by the fact that a puck deflected in during OT of game 7. Winners win, losers lose, etc. If you're writing off 2016 and 2017 because of some doofy cap spreadsheet, then yes, you're meatballing pretty hard.
  9. I'm all in. I don't think his success is even close to essential to us becoming good (after all, how hard is it to find a decent player to plug in at 2B - or maybe CF - if he crashes) and I'm all about gambling on that upside because what he can become is such an exciting and fun player. dat swing and those dongs. I don't want to win 86 games next year, finish two out of the Wild Card, and be sitting there looking at a -1.5 on Baez's Fangraphs page.
  10. I was thinking the other day it might be time to try for a Lake bounceback. He's still young and got some potential. I wouldn't mind seeing him start the year as our starting LFer and see if he could regain that 2013 magic.
  11. If we could take a super-deep team like LA to OT in game 7 with our lack of depth, maybe depth doesn't matter as much as meatballs think it does.
  12. Did you watch the series? I think not. Yes they lost on a bad bounce, but they essentially played that series with 3 lines and 5 defensemen. Did you see LA? They had Mike Richards on the 4th line. Stick to baseball Wow. They must have lost like 4-1 then with that kind of a disadvantage. I can't remember because I didn't watch the series, of course.
  13. http://www.hockeysfuture.com/team-rankings/ That's one helluva hot take. The reason they lost the series vs. LA is because a puck bounced one way and not the other in Game 7 in OT between the two best teams in the league. Anyone trying to draw deeper lessons than that should go get a job on sports radio or Bleacher Report or something.
  14. Nah, it's pretty awesome right now. EDIT - Fully expect jersey to tell me that it's not awesome and i'm not excited because they haven't done anything yet. It's been better than being a Bears fan. Bulls and Blackhawks double-Finals run is going to be pretty epic this spring.
  15. I totally understand the rational arguments for not wanting to trade Baez, based heavily on the idea that he's going to bounce back. But I know that if they did trade him, I'd be relieved.
  16. If we had Stanton and someone tried to propose a deal involving Baez right now as the centerpiece, there'd be howls.
  17. I'm open to trading him for the right player, but I do feel some people have a too-negative opinion due to recency bias. Quite possible. And I'm letting the Jackson/Olt things get in the way, too. I'm tired of hearing "the whiffiness is problematic, but look at how great the slash line and talent are! I'm sure he'll be fine."
  18. I could be wrong, but I don't remember anyone going higher than 40% on K-rate in the expectations thread. Opinions should change with new information. You don't have to want to trade him, but it's a bit odd to not change your opinion at all with months of new data.
  19. No he didn't. He struggled way, way worse than anyone feared.
  20. And trading him for Hamels (which still makes zero sense to me) is hardly the only suggestion we've seen that involves getting rid of Baez. My puzzlement is more with the overall negativity towards him than with a specific deal in mind. He swings and misses a lot.
  21. Granted I was only listening on the radio, but that is not the impression I got.
  22. Maybe I'd regret it for all eternity, wouldn't be the first thing, but I kind of want to trade Baez just to keep him from dragging down our 2015 lineup if he doesn't turn it around quickly.
  23. Milwaukee radio announcers are really whiny, in a fun way.
  24. I was at an ALS fundraiser last night and Mattingly was honored. A coworker (Yankees fan) spoke with him briefly and asked, "what's it like dealing with Puig?" and Mattingly's answer was, "You have no idea." with an exasperated look. We have all come to a consensus that this means he is clearly going to get dealt, so there's that. Maddon can handle him. Bring it on.
  25. I feel bad for laughing.
