  1. With a non-zero chance of a pennant flying over Wrigley Field to console us. I'm looking forward to the first time the Cubs struggle in 2016 and we get a round of "Well, this is just the first year of our true glory and these guys are all still so young. Wait until 2017, that's when it really matters."
  2. This is year four. And it is the only year currently being contested. We hope this is a long window of success. We have good reason to believe it has a good chance to be. But the idea that we're locked in and on cruise control is vastly overstated. People love easy-to-understand narratives like "We were bad, now we're OK and young, so tomorrow we'll be great." But it's never that easy. We could be like the Rays, where our first good team was our best. We could see the 2016 Cubs knocked off-course by a couple of poorly-timed injuries. We could see the front office's magic touch on cheap pitching evaporate. Russell could never adapt to the big leagues. Schwarber could Richie Sexson his forearm. The Cardinals and Pirates could continue their excellence for five more years and lock us out. The future looks good, but it isn't nearly enough of a guarantee to justify passing over the present entirely.
  3. If they lose today they downgrade from Cobs to cobs.
  4. That doesn't make any sense? Doing what exactly? I'd take our team over the next 10 years over theirs I bet Astros' fans would take their team over the next 10 years than ours. The vague future of unending awesomeness as some magical trump card in all franchise comparisons is as tiresome as [insert whatever you find really tiresome, me included].
  5. It's funny because you are one of only two posters I have on ignore, but I always get curious and click on it anyway. Not that you'll see this. *shrug*
  6. Oooh, what if we have to play a tiebreaker game with the Giants for the last playoff spot. History says we win.
  7. We're a not-small number of games above .500.
  8. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  9. If the Giants win, it'll be close. We'll project to be a small fraction of a win ahead of them, I think. Do we still have games in hand, or have we made those up? One game in hand.
  10. If the Giants win, it'll be close. We'll project to be a small fraction of a win ahead of them, I think.
  11. Every team blows a 9th inning lead a couple of times a year. We haven't been no-hit in most of our lifetimes. This would be worse. Nice try Ross.
  12. I'll tell you in six more outs, or whenever we get a hit.
  13. Oh wow, I just noticed our run differential is down to +7
  14. yeap maybe going with hitters that have softball swings and no real defensive position wasnt as bright an idea as going for TOR potential pitchers. All joking aside, sometimes I wonder if the "take and rake" approach might not be as strong as it was in the 00s because of the increase in pitching velocity. But our worst hitters are some of our least whiffy, so who knows.
  15. he's a known troll. put him on foe list. You misspelled "hilarious satirist."
  16. It's scary that what has happened to this franchise (and especially the fans' mindset) for the last few years has caused arguing for the Cubs to sell while they are currently half a game out of the playoffs to seem like something that should be taken at face value. *There are really people who think this*.
  17. Some would call it trolling. I say it's hilarious satire.
  18. Why do you hate the future? That's something Jim Hendry would do.
  19. We could probably get something for Fowler if we pick up salary. Coghlan for sure, he needs to get out of the way for McKinney anyway. Montero might clear waivers later if he can prove he is healthy in late August and be worth a prospect or two.
  20. This is not an overreaction game thread post because I've been thinking about this a bit and have come to terms with our offense: I'm not sure they should do either if the price is at all of any significance. (Unless it's a longer-term asset. No rentals). This offense just isn't going to be good enough for the Cubs to make the playoffs, with or without one more bat or pitcher. We should be sellers, imo
  21. Oh god they hit a double. Fold the franchise, all is lost.
  22. I liked it better when we were going to be so far ahead in the wild card by now that we didn't need to add anything.
