  1. You take your 0.5 fWAR pitcher and 4th reliever and like it.
  2. There's a difference between DFAing him and letting someone have him if he's waiver claimed. It's not time for the first one, but I think you could make a case for the second one.
  3. http://www.havefunteaching.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/particpation-boy-certificate.jpg
  4. I think that's actually quite plausible. Again: You've got a guy who has been below replacement 2 of the last 3 years, with $38m in guaranteed money remaining after this year. I'm not DFAing him and staying on the hook for all that money unless he's this bad for like a whole another year, but a lot of good could be done with that money if someone wants to take it on.
  5. Oh yay, it's the "not selling everything nailed down for prospects *is* respecting the present" angle.
  6. And that's a good thing because the present is just a season where they could win. The future could be *anything* you imagine it to be.
  7. Not that it changes anything, but I think the Cubs mysteriously added Richards back to the 40-man when they re signed him.
  8. Precisely. thats good *checks four-year cumulative record* No it isn't.
  9. Bowden fell for the same tweet on the air! It was glorious [tweet]https://twitter.com/tomfornelli/status/627200243721990146[/tweet] Can confirm that doesn't work.
  10. The Cubs are in the playoff race and after several years of being told we'd be aggressive when we're competitive, it's looking like we may get a 1-WAR fifth starter while every other NL contender got more. If that's how it plays out, I think disappointment is in order. Have fun living that life, dude. Thanks! It's been going better lately.

  12. So technically we get to do something fun, but we do it in the most boring, stupid, meaningless way possible while all the other teams get to do it better? The Epstein Way. Is it difficult to jerk off with such a small penis, or do you just use your thumb and forefinger Easier. A lot less stress on the wrist.
  13. If you're giving up Baez, that's the quality you should get.

  15. Remember that time we started Mark Clark in game 1 against Atlanta? (Or maybe we didn't. That's how I remember it and I'm too lazy to look it up).
  16. I think we'll do something else. Haren fulfills the need to upgrade the rotation in the same way that typing "It happened" 500 times fulfills the obligation to write 1,000 words on the Civil War.
  17. I'm willing to pay the moon for Arrieta 2.0. but we'd also inherit his mistake of a contract I also like to hang outside gas stations and offer to buy lottery scratchers after they've been shown to be winners.
  18. Tons of teams have kicked the Cubs' ass repeatedly for a long time because we root for a team that has been garbage for most of our lifetimes and beyond. It's haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack. but when you can't deny that it's different when your chief rival has been one of the most successful teams in baseball for the past 10 years, it's kind of taxing. Truthfully, I'd rather listen to Cardinals fans, who actually have something to hang their hat on, run their mouth than Brewers fans act as though we share some imaginary , storied rivalry. Remember in 2008 when they won a playoff game and we didn't?
  19. Having two elite pitchers at the front of your rotation is a time-honored formula for having no success in the playoffs.
  20. But we have no idea if he's fixed, and it's not so much that he's ready but rather he's become our best option through the two greatest words in the English language.
