  1. Dear god, why? They all suck.
  2. I knew roughly what his fWAR was but I had no clue whatsoever how many wins he had until just now. That's kinda funny, the sport has come a long way.
  3. I will say this: I think the best way to judge them in the entirety of their tenure will be how often they make the playoffs. If they get in once in 10 years and win it all, I'll be happy, but I don't think you can say the front office itself did a good job. If they have a 1990s Indians type run but never get through the playoffs, *shrug* it happens and not their fault. Assuming they are going to be around for about 10 years, putting yourself in an 0-for-3 hole voluntarily* makes it unnecessarily difficult. Even if you can make yourself a favorite the other 7 years, all it takes is the wrong two elbows to feel a twinge and one year where you barely miss and you're basically average. Making it this year makes a big difference in their odds of getting to 5 or 6 out of 10, which I think is a good minimum standard for praiseworthiness. 4 out of 10 in a league where 33% make it isn't bad, but it's not living up to the hype. So their success this year is definitely not immaterial. * - Well, sort of. I think when they took over in late 2011, they thought they'd have a good chance at scraping together a decent team in 2013-14 with mid-tier signings. They didn't spend $100m or whatever in the 2012-13 offseason for flip value or for funsies.
  4. This is the moment my dislike of Kaplan crossed over to outright hatred.
  5. I'm missing something. What's so messed up? haven't heard any blackhawks news over the last few weeks? Sure haven't. Do yourself a favor and keep your sweet innocence.
  6. Nope, one good season doesn't make up for three bad ones, and while there are some things to like about our future, it isn't the super magical unicorn train to 4 straight division titles.
  7. He was gung-ho on the entire idea of a rebuild and how Pujols was going to be old and broken down, and pretty much all of us yelled at him and told him how stupid that was, the Cubs obviously weren't going to do a rebuild. Not that it means he wasn't being stupid, it's just funny in retrospect. Kyle, as we sit here on August 20 with the fourth best record in baseball with a bunch of players, most very young, performing very well and who were acquired as a direct result of the tem being bad, you're still going to call the rebuild stupid? It was risky, as we got huge gifts from the Astros, Orioles, and Athletics and it certainly sucked to watch, but this is pretty sweet right now. You haven't been harping on it lately, but you have to have softened your stance a little, right? Nothing in that post said anything about my opinion on the rebuild.

  9. Now that I did not remember. I thought davhern became davearm, and you were always just David. Sorry. Was Davearm banned? I feel like I've seen people say he was crazy. He was like some crazy homeless man cursed to always be right with his ramblings but no one would ever believe him.
  10. it's not about him being right or wrong. he's obviously not dumb. he's just a high volume contrarian troll and that gets annoying. and he does it on every remotely related cubs corner of the internet. OK. That makes sense. Because I was going to say, he doesn't seem to be an idiot to me. Anyway, I'm impressed with how much people here know about each other. Like Idiot is called by his real name id assume and I think Sofa is called mojo. Where the [expletive] does this all come from? 90% of the userbase here is the same as it was 10 years ago.
  11. So does that mean Soler will start hitting like them or that his exit velocity is fluky and he won't keep it up? i posted that because of schwarber ah

  13. I assumed he was an old poster under a new name. I don't know why, they just always are.
  14. I want to believe that there was some next-level thinking behind it that we don't understand, but I think he just tilted and made a mistake. He did what you cry about Theo not doing. He took a risk and traded top prospects for a chance to win and lost. I pretty specifically said I don't want the Cubs trading top prospects at the trade deadline.

  16. Addison Russell is really good at baseball and is probably going to be even better and stay there for awhile.
  17. am i even that high on soler? i just don't think he's going to suck long term. i don't think i've been effusive with soler praise at all this year. he does hit the ball obscenely hard on a consistent basis, though. he's top 15 in the league among guys with 150+ PA in average batted ball velocity. and most of the other guys on that list have been pretty good hitters. http://baseballsavant.com/apps/hit_leader.php?game_date=&abs=150&sort=3,1&type=batter Well, I was joking about stuff like this; we all know how hard he hits the ball, but so far it hasn't translated to much this season. Hope, hope, hope... Make up your mind so I can tell you which way you are wrong.
  18. Not a troll. But the rest is pretty much right. Although not nearly high volume this summer.
  19. I'm right and wrong about the same as anyone else.
  20. lol 3rd best in baseball = "when completely health it's fine" Never back down. Double down.

  22. Castro can actually make contact and get a fluke hit or two, pitchers know exactly how to pitch Soler if they need a strikeout Throw it five inches off the plate and get the umpire to still ring him up? This. Solers strike zone has been absurd and it's gotta [expletive] with his approach There's not really any evidence that Soler has been a victim of an unusual number of bad strike calls, and people have looked for it. It's just a meme that entered people's heads and confirmation bias took over, especially since it's more comforting than talking about what a dumpster fire he's been this season and how that's bad for his projection.
  23. It would be hilarious if he left but of course he's not going to.
  24. But he had 3/5ths of a great season. How could he drop a turd after doing that? Or at least how could he do it for like the fourth time in his career? Surely he's due to sustain it one of these times.
