  1. Technically i believe we are top-10 in most WS won.
  2. This season is basically just an exhibition season. Nobody's really gonna care about it. The NBA will be even worse.
  3. The playoff format and the one game play-in was the only good idea that the league has come up with since the DH, so of course they're going to kill it.
  4. I wanted that Sosa trade so bad. I remember listening to the Score for updates every day toward the end of July, and they kept playing “should I stay or should I go.” The only deadline deals I wanted more were Randy Johnson in 1998 and Nomar in 2003
  5. Even at 50 games, I'm still going to decide halfway through that it's too long and zone out until the playoffs.
  6. Well, at least they’ve learned their lesson and totally aren’t blowing another window on overinvesting in defense and underinvesting in the core of the offense
  7. I'm coming at this as someone who was never a huge basketball fan, and by the time I was old enough to know about basketball the Bulls were already on top and it would have felt weird to start rooting for them. The first episode really improved my image of Jordan. I liked the stuff about not being interested in the party, the work ethic in college, etc. The Krause stuff? Krause brought it on himself.
  8. When I was a kid I hated the crap out of Damon Berryhill because he replaced my favorite, Jody Davis.
  9. If Krause really wanted credit, he could have gone somewhere without Jordan and proved how responsible he was for the success.
  10. This is lame. Happ ruining our "he kills people for fun" trope by exposing himself as a nice normal cool guy. Pretty brave of Nico and company to take the invite! At least we still have the time that a magazine scientifically proved how tiny Rizzo's face is.
  11. Wood. We finally had an ace with elite stuff. It's criminal we didn't win one with him. And he was the first one I actually followed from the prospect lists and minor league stats to MLB success.
  12. Honestly, it's a pretty reasonable idea. I'm hoping that by June, medium-sized gatherings (<50) will be considered common enough that we won't even need the players to fully sequester or sit apart in the dugout or whatever. But damn are they gonna have the mother of all PR disasters/lawsuits if a mini-outbreak sneaks into a team.
  13. Chess is kind of a miserable social game because small different skills makes the game completely lopsided. I'm going to absolutely mop the floor with 99% of people, get horsewhipped by 0.5%, and have a good fun time with the other .5%.
  14. You can't take serious competitive chess online because they'll all cheat. Every last one of them will cheat. There's not a dude over 2700 who wouldn't be running Stockfish on three phones at once. Nakamura would probably forget to deny it.
  15. Let's see. We're ignoring foundational positions like OL to buy expensive veterans at flash positions like pass rusher and TE. We're somehow getting older. And we're trading picks to make multi-year commitments to bad QBs. This is everything I expected and didn't want from Pace.
  16. This is basically what I expected from this offseason, which is also what I feared. Pace is gonna triple-down on veterans, trade assets for a QB, and pray that we stay healthy enough for a 10-7 season to save his job. (Are we playing 17 games now? I think I heard that).
  17. Whichever two are healthy any given week should have a big impact
  18. Well yeah, that should be the case when entertaining the idea of trading a possible future HOFer in his prime He's not in his prime.
  19. They haven't been rebuilding? We knew this would happen when they signed everyone to reward extensions.
  20. then trade mitch for carr Don't think I'd hate a trade for Carr. Floyd and a 4th for Carr? That would leave us with approximately $20m in cap space and 5 draft picks to fill the following: Four defensive starters (S, CB, ILB, OLB), 3-4 immediate back-up/rotational depth pieces on defense, TE1, TE2, whatever you want to do with the OL, a WR2/3 and an RB2. It's the perfect "I sure hope a decent QB can save my job" move from Pace, so I expect it to happen.
  21. The defense, ranked 8th in DVOA last year, has now lost three starters as well as a lot of key depth guys. And it looks like we are gearing up to spend most of our offseason resources on a QB. Good luck.
  22. Being locked into a player for FA-level money for their decline phase is not a stronger position. The whole point of signing guys to those deals is that you get surplus value in the early years, knowing that you'll probably eat it in the later years. You don't just want the later years when you don't have to take them.
  23. Occam’s Razor would imply that if we think the FO is sharp, if they did do that trade either: 1. They don’t think Nolan is just slightly better moving forward 2. It’s not such a big contract after the Rockies throw in cash I really, really dislike this reasoning. It's basically just "we know they don't make mistakes because if they do it, it's not a mistake."
  24. Surely the Cubs aren't so far gone that we'd trade for a slightly older, very slightly better, significantly worse contract just to say we did something.
  25. The current playoff system is *really* good and everyone needs to leave it alone. Nobody is pining for the 7th place team to make the playoffs (lol the Cubs still wouldn't have been in last year). Nobody is dying to watch 3.5 hours of Game 2 of the QuarterFinal Round between the Twins and A's or whoever. I wouldn't change a single thing about the current format. It's as good as it will ever be.
