  1. Rizzo HBP That only counts if you hit him more than once. Everybody gets one
  2. We are getting perfecto’d tonight for sure, no take backs
  3. It takes a few days to test positive. I don’t think opposing teams are at a super high risk of spread in general, but we need another couple of days before spiking that particular football. Generally, you don’t get it from standing near someone at 1b for two minutes. You get it from going to a strip club with someone, sitting next to them for hours, then spending tons of time in confined spaces with your team.
  4. There is no way that is right. I think it’s 54 for the division. Wild card shouldn’t be that much different I am assuming they only play 30 games
  5. That is legitimately the funniest thing to happen to the Bears since the double doink. This nfl season isn’t happening Edit: this dude just appears to be some rando college kid with no real sources
  6. Road Cubs had a no-hitter through 5 and were up 7-0 Games still go 9 this year, until they cancel the season
  7. Budget isn’t an issue, it’s just so hard to figure out what’s what when you are brand new. I think people who have been around a hobby for awhile forget that. I can tell you what foot shape works best with a dozen different lines of hockey skates, but I go to eBay and type in “men’s iron set” and I have no idea what I am looking at. I think stiff is supposed to be for advanced players, graphite is nicer than steel? Callaway is supposed to be a good brand, as is Mizuno? Is TaylorMade kind of in between? Sure, I can ask people I know irl or on the internet, but then I am just putting myself in the hands of some random jerk who might be right or he might like sac bunts, who knows? Plus, a big part of the fun is learning this stuff in my own. I am just using cheap garbage clubs off amazon and a $5 putter from play it again (I also got a 4 iron there that I absolutely cannot hit). Once I’ve absorbed enough to actually have opinions on what works for me and what I want, I will go big. Unrelated: it dawned on my today that I’m not actually hitting my driver well. It’s just that my tendency to pull and my tendency to slice and cancelling out harmoniously. Now that I know then it will probably stop working but for now it’s ending up on target
  8. Wait, I am getting Mitre confused with Rueben Quevedo
  9. I had high hopes for both Sergio Mitre and Micah Bowie.
  10. I know that golf can be fun for everything from “foursome of buddies day-drinking who happen to be hitting balls” through “obsessive competitive guy who thinks he might get through the Monday mini-tour qualifier next month with some luck.” For me, I am self-competitive and want to do my best, and I’m a huge nerd about keeping stats and following rules. I will probably try a course for the first time within a few weeks. I am still hitting non-shots too often with irons, maybe 1/3rd are whiffs/tops/shanks/etc. A I had planned on buying a full beginner set, but I started buying individual clubs to get a feel for them. After a few, I realized that I’m not consistent enough to be able to gap 14 clubs consistently, I really don’t think I need a full set. I might as well wait and skip the beginner set and buy something nice down the road when I can make good use of it. So I’m carrying driver, 5h, 7, 9, PW, putter. I will probably add a 3w soon. Feels like plenty for me for the moment.
  11. The overlap between the demographics of anti-maskers and MLB clubhouses is about 70% of overlapping circles
  12. Maybe I will feel different when I get out there, but the entire concept of “gimmes” bugs me. It takes 5 seconds to tap it in and pick it up.
  13. Hitting herd immunity before the stretch run is the new market inefficiency
  14. I’ve seen several people various places say a marlins player ignored symptoms to play and I can’t find a primary source for that?
  15. They’re not canceling the season until they at least have a few days to see if their system of containing the outbreak has worked.
  16. Nobody cares alert: update on my learning to golf phase I’m going to the practice range a couple of times a week now, still having fun. I usually have one or two swing fixes I want to implement each time, and I have evolved from “idiot who looks like he has never held a club before” to “idiot who is just not good at golf.” I can hit my drives consistently on-target with some left to right that I would describe more as a natural fade than a slice. I got a launch tracker app that has them at a pretty consistent 160-175 carry, which isn’t great but I figure that’s ok for new player + range balls + cheap driver. I spent three sessions trying to figure out why I was pulling my irons badly. I was swinging outside-in for a couple of reasons. First I was too upright and making up for it with too much knee bend, which was making me reach out for the ball and coming through outside-in. Then I noticed I was too close to the ball, forcing me to bring my arms in and again causing an outside-in path. I fixed all that and was still going left with every shot, even though it felt like it was going pretty straight off the club. So finally I laid down some clubs to make sure I was lining up toward the target, and it turns out I was aiming way left. It almost feels like a closed baseball stance when he aim correctly and turn your head toward the target. Once I had that sorted, my irons were going pretty consistently on target. I am right at the tipping point where I need to decide to continue on my own and risk ingraining some bad habits or take some lessons. It’s annoying because there are only two types of golf lesson advertisements: 1) crazy advanced indoor simulator packages targeted at advanced players and really seem to be expensive ads for custom-fitter new clubs 2) faded printout from local pro on cork board in the range shop. Hotmail email address and phone number out of service. Guy at counter says he comes and goes on his own but you can usually catch him Thursday afternoons if you hang around for a few hours. Tl;dr. Dumb jerk likes overthinking about hitting ball
  17. I watched like 45 minutes today, which is a lot for me. I will be back in highlight only mode in a few days
  18. This is the kind of game that makes every other pitcher look like a chump for throwing too hard
  19. And by most of Cubs internet fandom, I mean me. I said those things. But I made like 400 posts a day back then so by volume that’s what most of us were saying.
  20. I remember most of Cubs internet fandom being convinced that Hill could not be the PTBNL because of some rule about having played in the same league as Ramirez that year or something. And then being pissed when it was him because he was an OBP machine in the making while Ramirez was at like .315 career, proving once again that Jim Hendry would never understand moneyball and the Cubs were doomed without a SABR front office
