I know it's not a popular POV around here, but if Pie keeps looking like he has, Johnson SHOULD get more AB's... we can't keep having an automatic out in Pie's spot, especially w/ Theriot in the lineup as well. It's less than 25 ABs, isn't it?
Yeah I know. Who wants 7 innings of 1-hit baseball when you could get 1 inning of walks? sample size? Pulling any of them would be stupid. But even mentioning that Dempster should even be in the discussion, at this moment, regarding pulling pitchers is beyond stupid. Because no bad pitcher ever had two good games?
I was thinking if I wanted to post and be that guy or not. Thank you for not making me choose. After editing some reeeeeeeeeeeeeally horrifying journal articles over the last few days, I've been cranky when it comes to the English language. I can't blame myself, to be honest. I've edited a college newspaper around the the time freshmen in Intro to Newswriting had their first class deadline. I feel your pain.
The LOOGY is there, like most bullpen roles, to cover the manager's behind and make him able to point to a "book" he followed. Pigniatiello is cautionary tale No. 1,223,106 in why you don't give out roster spots based on spring training performance.
But look at those IP numbers, he's a workhorse! Good Luck getting alot in return. Frankly, I'd take a pack of warm week-old hot dogs for Marquis at this point. That's a little silly. He's hovered around league average for some years now. Surely someone will overpay for that.
You've not been watching his defense have you? OH yeah when our pitchers couldn't hold a single runner. Please. :glare: and an error, and standing in the middle of the basepath before the ball gets there so he can get steamrolled by the runner and give up another run. not to mention he hasn't been much more successful at throwing out runners than rubber arm kendall was last year. but yeah, otherwise he's not made a bad play all year. ;) And failing to get a windblown popup behind the plate.
actually if you run the numbers its best to spread your "guaranteed" outs around the lineup so it doesn't kill rally's, so its actually not that bad to split Pie and Theriot I strongly, strongly question this. There's no combination of hits and outs that isn't better when the hits are bunched and the outs are bunched.
Cubs fans (Well, the people at Wrigley) also cheered when Kerry Wood plunked the first hitter he faced in a tie game in the ninth, who eventually scored in a one-run loss. Cubs fans are not having a good season thus far. But sample size must be taken into account.
