  1. Single to right. Ugh. How many Cubs tonight are going to swing at sliders that don't even *start* close to the plate.
  2. I assume you're on gamecast. That was a line drive off the pitcher's glove. Even worse. I was only half watching and saw the ball trickling away and assumed.
  3. If there's enough faux angst around here, the real angst won't seem so bad if it ever sets in :)
  4. Lee needs to remember that at-bat. He's apparently going to have to make a career out of getting hits with weak ground balls.
  5. lol. Theriot does not need Center or Left field.
  6. Bad bullpen...check, bad defense...check. The Brewers are the textbook answer to "How do you build a mediocre team after starting with an ace pitcher and a couple stud young hitters?"
  7. Hmm. What was one of the reasons I keep saying I'm not worried about the Brewers? Oh yeah, relief pitching... :)
  8. Yesterday? Yeah, that was it. Why can't we do that again? :(
  9. Remember when our offense used to score runs and be good at stuff? It's hard at this point...
  10. A lot. Wow. I'm just seeing the walks, then. Poorly selective viewing. I thought Gallagher had problems getting Ks too, but I just looked it up and his K-rates are way better than I would have guessed.
  11. It had nothing to do with range, it had to do with him completely misjudging the ball, which he does a LOT. A CF with good range has the time to find that ball and take a good route. That ball was on the very edge of Edmonds' range, so he had to make a perfect read to get it.
  12. Edmonds misplays a deep Kent drive into an RBI double. A CF with good range catches that.
  13. Pierre flies out to left. Just like Brenly knew he would...
  14. Derrek Lee fouls off a few, then swings at an even worse pitch than Soriano did. Didn't think that was possible.
  15. lol, Brenly "Wouldn't be the first time *this ump whose name I forget* has missed a call at first base...or second base, or third base, or at the plate." (he actually said the name, I just can't recall it)
  16. Grounder in the hole, Theriot thrown out when the first baseman dives but somehow keeps his foot on the bag. Lou out to argue the call.
  17. Soriano Ks on a 1997 Sosa special. At least it took five pitches. But ballgame. We are getting shut out by this horrible pitcher.
  18. From a broadcasting standpoint, I agree 100%. As a fan though, you have to appreciate his genuine enthusiasm and love for the Cubs. I'm not looking for a great broadcaster in the color man. Harry was the same as Ron. He was a horrible announcer, but he was well loved because it was like one of us was in the booth. He got excited when something great happened and he got pissed when something terrible happened. I didn't like Santo when I first heard him call games on WGN, but he really grew on me. I think he wants this team to win more than all of us combined and I love that. Brenly is boring and unfunny, despite countless attempts at humor. Kaspar may be OK with a different partner, but I doubt it. I didn't like Caray either. I heard some broadcasts of him way back when he first started with the Cubs and earlier, and I was shocked at how good he used to be. We got him at the end of his career when he was way past his prime.
  19. I would imagine something along the lines of a 3-6 DP where the tag needs to be applied at 2nd? Correct. (b) A reverse force double play is one in which the first out is a force play and the second out is made on a runner for whom the force is removed by reason of the first out. Examples of reverse force plays: runner on first, one out; batter grounds to first baseman, who steps on first base (one out) and throws to second baseman or shortstop for the second out (a tag play). Another example: bases loaded, none out; batter grounds to third baseman, who steps on third base (one out); then throws to catcher for the second out (tag play).
  20. Wellenmeyer with elbow pain: http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/bird-land/bird-land/2008/06/wellemeyer-ankiel-sent-to-see-docs-in-st-louis/
  21. Yes. The relevant rule: "(1) when the batter grounds into a force double play or a reverse-force double play; or"
  22. Cards and Marlins each trailing by five early. Good chance the Cubs will be playing for a 4.5 game lead in the division and 7 in the playoffs in general.
