  1. That's the same thing as being on steroids and HGH for years. Greenies, spit balls, sandpaper, blah, blah, blah - not close to having the same effect on the game as steroids and HGH. Okay, so let me get this straight: It's okay to use illegal, performance-enhancing drugs, as long as you don't use the really good stuff? I never said that but you're fooling yourself if you think greenies had the same effect on the game as steroids and HGH did during the steroid era. Then I guess it's a good thing that I never said that. You are beating up quite the strawman. Okay, tell me this, then: What level and quality of illegal, performance-enhancing drugs does a player have to use before he gets left out of the record book? When is it okay, and when is it not?

  3. Some others for me: The Nomar trade. The double-play to clinch the 2003 division title. Gaetti's homer in the WC game. Joe Borowski striking out Andruw Jones to end Game 5 of the 2003 NLCS.
  4. Aaron admitted to trying amphetamines without a prescription in his 1992 autobiography. That eliminates him right there. Ruth is your all-time HR leader.
  5. What was that crazy walk-off play that ended with multiple rundowns and the winning run sliding in at home?
  6. They should remove from the record books anyone who ever tested positive for or admitted to using a PED. Welcome back to the all-time HR lead, Babe Ruth.
  7. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Anap.zRC1WtRcncQwgKnyKI5nYcB?slug=ge-springkickoff021209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns This would be awesome to watch. I've always thought a team of baseball's best hitters with a few days of practice could outdo the top batting side in the world in a limited-overs match.
  8. Because it wasn't "the" steroid era. It was just the one with the best chemists.
  9. I do sort of agree that some people around here tend to have short memories about how much they hated guys who ended up performing. To use myself as an example, I think we were in May at least before I shut up about Cedeno/Theriot.
  10. That's an awful lot of wrong packed into two sentences, and some of it you are repeating despite being called on it before. 1) The people upset about trading Marquis and the people griping about him were often not the same people. 2) Almost nobody (in fact, I don't recall anyone) said that it was a good contract. 3) He didn't move the entire contract. He had to eat some of it.
  11. Do teams get to keep all that money? I know apparel revenue is tricky, some of it the teams keep and some is split.
  12. I don't think it would be about that. From the articles that came out a couple weeks ago on those business websites, it sounds like he just can't afford it Well that's what I meant. Why would he buy the Cubs if he couldn't maintain the team as it is. He saw the books, he knows the Cubs have a large payroll and several long term contracts to deal with. Because he's a Cubs fan and wants to own the Cubs. If I had a chance to own the Cubs but knew I'd have to reduce them to a $60 million dollar payroll, the only hard part would be deciding whether my first response to the complaints would be a rude phrase or a rude gesture.
  13. Not me. When you factor in leverage, there's usually at least one bullpen spot, sometimes two, that are just as important as a starting spot. But on the flip side, I think teams should always carry some worthless AAA vet on the back end of the bullpen and flog his arm till it falls off.
  14. I'm a huge Huet hater, but I'll always admit he's an above-average goalie.
  15. ballgame
  16. That's some pretty nasty equivocating. FRAA put the difference between Bradley and Abreu last season at about 25 runs. I'd like to know how they got those numbers, considering Bradley has barely played in the field since he tore up his knee. And he wasn't a gold glover before then either. I don't believe FRAA's formula is public. But no matter what metric you use, the results are more or less than same: Braldey is around average, sometimes a little above, sometimes a little below. Abreu is awful.
  17. Hey look. Howard.
  18. Whomever those some are, are drunken idiots. He's a friggen OFer. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=945&position=OF
  19. I really doubt much juicing was ever done in the actual clubhouse. Plus, Sosa could always just leave the game early if he's worried about anyone seeing him.
  20. Well, without getting into semantics, I think it's assumed that your sexuality and gender will go a long way toward deciding what activities you are performing. Obviously, there are a few exceptions. It's pretty hard for a man to participate in "receptive vaginal-penile intercourse."

  22. I'll be able to watch the first 55 minutes or so. Should be awesome.
  23. It's true. Heterosexual males have much lower transmission rates than women or homosexuals. Reality needs to shut up and be more PC.
  24. What TT said. He's on the downside of his career, and at best he's giving away 1/3rd of his offensive value on defense, some say more. I don't want him taking up a valuable corner outfield spot.
  25. And much cheaper. There's no way it's a good price for a team this close to maxed out on their budget.
