  1. The Cubs travel to Tempe Diablo stadium to take on the Angels today in a rare 1 PM CT start. Carlos Zambrano gets his final tune-up start before opening the season for the Cubs in Cincinatti. The game is being carried by the Angels affiliate, station ESPN710 and should be available on MLBaudio. For those with XM radio, the game is scheduled for channel 182. (Damn, I miss my XM!!!) The Cubs are 14-11 on the spring and go for their 15th win today.
  2. Bowden is an idiot. There is no reason Church should not only be on the big league roster, he should be starting.
  3. From Bruce's article in the Daily Herald.. Link. Apparently, Pierre's camp is not interested in negotiating right now. Furcal's contract seems to have them believing the market for his services will be higher.
  4. 1. Ryne Sandberg 2. Sammy Sosa 3. Cal Ripken Jr. 4. Andre Dawson 5. Reggie Jackson
  5. This move is not a surprise. We all knew they weren't pitching in spring games this week. With the rules that exist, they both could be eligible to pitch as early as the 10th of April. Neither are expected by then.
  6. That is a classic quote!
  7. No there are a lot of players who can bring: 1. a good work ethic 2. a good clubhouse presence 3. a job knowing abilitiy Heck, I'll do that and for the league minimum. What I hope Pierre brings is a +.350 OBP. The rest I could care less about. Exactly. I dont care if he "knows his job" i dont care that he's a "good clubhouse presence". I'll go back to my old standby "Babe ruth and lou gehrig didnt talk for 5 years, yet batted back to back, and things turned out pretty well" Chemistry and all these "intangibles" are bogus. Give me a .350+ OBP out of my leadoff guy and i'll be happy. I take it you guys are big fans of T.O. then. Does he have a +.350 OBP? I'm talking about football. It shouldn't make a difference what sport we are talking about it, what your saying is that on the field production is all the matters and chemistry is a non-factor. Using this school of thought, Owens is the best reciever in football, and you guys would have loved to see your teams get him. I do love the fact that my team got him!
  8. I could go for that deal. Kielty has some wild hair!
  9. This is so K.C. can trade him again at the deadline.
  10. Link. Despite words to the contrary, the article seems to hint that all may not be right with the shoulder.
  11. Wade Miller must be placed on the 40-man, so my guess is this trade opens up his spot.
  12. thats what i thought too but his spring #'s are quite good. he must have regained some if not all of his lost velocity. williamson is a big risk imo and has pretty much said he wants to close again anyway so why not deal him? The D-Rays are in serious need of a closer....if we decied we HAD to move him I could see potential there. I don't see the Rays having as much interest as a team like the Braves might have. The Rays aren't going to have many games worth saving, while the lack of a closer could cause the Braves to lose their first division title since the Clinton administration. Was it the Clinton administration or the first Bush Administration? I thought it was since 1991, which would have been GB part I...I could be wrong though...just going off memory. I think you're right.

  14. Pagan is a better hitter than Goodwin, but probably not as SB-efficient. I'd be surprised and pleased if Pagan could steal bases as well as Goodwin did in 2003. I'm not sure Goodwin was that more efficient. He was 75.8% on his career which is a little better than Pagan's minor league numbers. Goodwin gained some effieciency later in his career when he ran less but picked his spots better.
  15. I've ordered a new MiFi but it hasn't arrived yet. Of course, I couldn't use it here at work anyway.
  16. I think Restovich makes the team over Theriot unless Walker is traded. The trade of Wellemeyer would open a spot on the 40-man for one player which is likely Miller. But, we have some dead weight on the 40-man and Restovich could claim a spot.
  17. Here's Holdzkom's minor league numbers. He dominated through the system until he hit a bump at Jupiter last season. He only pitched nine innings there. He also missed the entire 2004 season due toi TJS. He is a little old to never have pitched above class A, but his surgery may have something to do with that. He does make a decent looking relief prospect and we got him for someone we were likely going to cut loose anyway.
  18. I wouldn't trade Williams unless he could be packaged with a player to bring someone who upgrades the everyday line-up or unless someone is willing to trade a right-handed power bat for the bench.
  19. Lincoln Holdzkom does look interesting. He's averaging more than a K per IP. That gives me hope that we didn't just get some trash for Wellemeyer.
  20. What a tool. He actually asked a reporter if he should have one of his backup MIF pitch...like he had no other option. How many pitchers did you have warming up in the pen late in the game? I don't like calling anyone a liar, but that's about as obvious as you can get. I can't wait until the Sox have a string of bad luck and Guillen's bad behavior and idiocy catch up with him and he becomes an out of work manager incapable of finding a job ala Cito Gaston.
  21. Goodwin had a couple of decent seasons. In 1998 for Texas, Goodwin posted a 290/378/338 line while showing off decent speed on the bases but not knowing when to run. I think Pagan already has better instincts in that department. If Pagan can give somewhat similar production from the bench, he could be useful. Pierre is going to play everyday, so I don't see Pagan getting more that 20 starts all year. He'll get some pinch hitting opportunities and be used as a late inning pinch runner and defensive replacement. If that's how he's used, he's not a bad option. I'd prefer to have some right-handed power on the bench, though. Restovich would supply that.
  22. I think the only way Theriot makes the team out of spring training is if Walker is traded.
  23. Guillen is a chump. Baker should call him out for being a coward just so Guillen can go on another physchotic rant.
