  1. What would you rather see with the players we have available? Jones and Aramis are not able to play at present. I'd wait and use Blanco on a day when Ramirez was available. I'd have Walker in there too. He's hit Milton fairly well.
  2. Jayson Stark believes (and says Astro players do as well) that Clemens will be an Astro.
  3. Yes, it was only two years, but they were brilliant years for him. A Cy Young award and getting the team to the World Series for the first time ever. I agree that it isn't a HUGE possibility, but he still made a significant contribution to the team. Of course he made contributions to the team. I'm not debating that he will be forever remembered in Houston for those accomplishments. But those were two years of a 22 year career. It's not even 10% of his career. As an Astro, he has one Cy Young and one World Series appearance. As a Red Sox, he has three Cy Youngs and one WS as well as pitching 13 years there. As a Yankee, he has 2 Cy Young awards as well as three WS appearances while pitching five seasons. There's no way his Astro years can compare to those. I can't even see the Astros being part of the discussion.
  4. Jayson Stark on Barrett compared to other NL catchers. Link.
  5. In his chat yesterday, Neyer offered a take on Lee's contract as well as the Ortiz deal. Link.
  6. Clemens has publicly stated that he wants to go in as a Yankee. I think it should be as a Red Sox, but since he's made his desires so clear, there's a good chance that he'll go as a Yankee. He only pitched two years with the Astros, so I don't see how they can in any way be part of the equation.
  7. In his weekly chat, Buster Olney opines that Dunn could still be traded.
  8. I found this comment in Buster Olney's chat (Link) interesting.
  9. Eyre was the one who said that he had bad Chipotle (which to me is redundant, but whatever floats your boat). I wonder how far the run is from the bullpen to the clubhouse bathroom? In a thread about upset stomachs, do we really need to talk about what floats?
  10. "Hey coach, can't go today. I got a bad case of the butt vomits!"
  11. It happens sometimes. Once, when I worked in retail, I was having a similar problem around an hour before I had to be at work. I called my manager to let him know, and he said it was too late so unless I was going to have a doctor's note, I better be at work. I wasn't going to pay for a doctor's visit for a case of the runs, so I went to work. Needless to say, for the first half of my four-hour shift, Dillards paid me $9/hour to sit in the john.
  12. At Zoe Pan-Asia in the CWE? I'll be your friendly bartender. But it's not a sports environment, if that's what you're looking for. It doesn't bother me much, but I couldn't stay long anyways. I'm taking my daughter up there with me to visit her grandparents and they will have had her all day, so I'll want to get back and help them with getting her to bed.
  13. Didn't the Cubs offer more money than the Braves but at that point Maddux was just fed up with Cub's front office? I thought it was Maddux offering to come back at a salary he had been offered by the Cubs back in July or so, but Himes said he could no longer offer that amount. I believe it was actually slightly less than the Braves were offering. This is the closest to the truth. According to most reports, Himes offered Maddux a contract and Boras and Greg wanted to shop the offer. The Cubs told Maddux that was the best they could do and they needed an answer because they couldn't wait while other pitchers signed contracts. Boras told them that Maddux wasn't ready to sign, so Himes went out and signed Greg Hibbard, Jose Guzman, and someone for the bullpen. A few days later, when the only offer better than the Cubs came from the Yankees, Boras phoned back and wanted to take the Cubs offer. Himes told him the money was spent and the offer was no longer on the table. That to my recollection was how things transpired. Maddux then signed with the Braves, and we know the rest of the story.
  14. I'd like to point out Maddux's recent comments about Barrett. Link.
  15. With as well as Cedeno is playing, I don't see a move for Tejada upcoming. Our biggest need will be a corner outfielder. Shortstop will not be a target.
  16. He's actually pitching fairly well tonight. Through 6, 6H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.
  17. Me either....but so far, he looks better than Rusch.
  18. I'll be there as well, but will be staying with my in-laws. Would anyone like to get together for dinner after the game on Saturday?
  19. Koronka finishes the fifth by striking out Vlad. Line so far: 5 IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 5K.
  20. So far, 4IP, 4H, 2R, 1 BB, 3K. He's still pitching in the fifth and if he finishes it will be in line for the win. Wow...that's surprising. We'd have been better off keeping Koronka and trading Rusch to the Rangers.
  21. I had fried catfish for supper.
  22. Are you assuming Wood isn't healthy? While your rotation isn't bad, I'd prefer Zambrano, Prior, Wood, Maddux, Miller...especially if each is pitching near his 3-year average. In fact, if Wood, Prior and Miller return to pitch somewhere in that range, we will have one of if not the best rotation in the league.
  23. My guess is he would be a Brave and that's really how it should be. He won 3 of his 4 Cy Young Awards as a Brave as well as his only World Series appearance. Even if he won the Cy Young and a WS this year, I don't see his Cubs career overtaking what he did as a Brave.
